Etymology

The i vowel of past-tense -is plus the t of the Latin/Romance/German passive perfect participle.

Suffix

-it-

  1. (nominal) -ito One who has undergone the action of the root
    Example: ami (to love) + -itoamito (one that has been loved)
  2. (adjectival) -ita The passive past participle
    Example: ami (to love) + -itaamita (having been loved)
