-DÁÁZ

Etymology

From Proto-Athabaskan *da̓z ~ *das (to be heavy). Compare Chipewyan yekʼéghíłdath (it is coming down heavy on him) and Navajo das (weight).

In active intransitive bases this root describes the movement of a mass of plural objects. In neuter adjectival and comparative bases it retains the original meaning “to be heavy”.
