From Middle Chinese 究竟涅槃 (MC kɨu^H kˠiæŋ^H net̚ buɑn), itself a translation of Sanskrit निष्ठा निर्वाण (niṣṭhā nirvāṇa).

Equivalent to 究 (く)竟 (きょう) (kukyō, “excellent, ideal”) + 涅 (ね)槃 (はん) (nehan, “nirvana”).
