յագչիմ

Old Armenian

Etymology 1

From *յագ- (*yag-), of uncertain origin, + -չ- (-čʿ-). Ačaṙyan rejects the attempts of connecting the word with յանկչիմ (yankčʿim), յանգչիմ (yangčʿim), հանգչիմ (hangčʿim) and leaves the origin open. According to J̌ahukyan, a relation with հագնեմ (hagnem, to patch, to piece together; to join) is possible, with the usual h/y alternation.
