From Ottoman Turkish مارول (marul, marol), from Byzantine Greek μαρούλιον (maroúlion).[2][3] Attested also as Middle Armenian մառօլ (maṙōl), մառուլ (maṙul) and late Old Armenian մառուլ (maṙul).
