Supergirl is a TV show based on the fictional character Supergirl (Kara Zor-El), a costumed superhero crime-fighter who appears in comic books published by DC Comics.

Season 1

Opening voiceover
When I was a child, my planet, Krypton, was dying. I was sent to Earth to protect my cousin. But my pod got knocked off-course, and by the time I got here, my cousin had already grown up and become... Superman. And so, I hid my powers, until recently when an accident forced me to reveal myself to the world. To most people, I am an assistant at CatCo Worldwide Media. But in secret, I work with my adoptive sister for the D.E.O. to protect my city from alien life and anyone else that means to cause it harm. I am Supergirl.

Pilot [1.01]

Cat Grant: The only reason I bought this building was because it had a private elevator. That way I don't have to get soaked in cheap cologne every morning getting to my office. Find out who used it, have them reprimanded or bathed, I don't care which.

Kara Danvers: Uh, there's something about me that for most of my life, I've run from it. But last night, I embraced who I am and I don't want to stop.
Winn Schott: Oh, my God, you're a lesbian. Oh, Kara, that's why you're not into me. This is... this is great news!
Kara: I'm not gay! I'm... I'm her! The woman who saved the plane!
Winn: Okay. Yeah, okay. Right. [Kara walks toward the ledge] Kara, what are you doing? Hey, Kara! Hey, get away from the ledge, you're gonna get hurt. [Kara jumps off] Kara! Hey! [Kara flies back up and lands on the roof] You're... You're her.
Kara: Yup.

Winn: This one has the "S". For "Super", just like your cousin.
Kara: It's not an "S". It's my family coat of arms. The House of El.

Kara: [on discovering that Cat dubbed her "Supergirl"] Supergirl? We can't name her that!
Cat: We didn't.
Kara: Right, I'm sorry. It's just, uh... A female superhero. Shouldn't she be called Super... woman?
Cat: I'm sorry, darling, I just can't hear you over the loud color of your cheap pants.
Kara: If we call her Supergirl, something less than what she is, doesn't that make us guilty of, of being anti-feminist? Didn't you say she's the hero?
Cat: I'm the hero. I stuck a label on the side of the girl. I branded her. She will forever be linked to CatCo, to the Tribune, to me. And what do you think is so bad about "Girl?" Huh? I'm a girl. And your boss, and powerful, and rich, and hot and smart. So if you perceive Supergirl as anything less than excellent, isn't the real problem you?

Alex Danvers: Director Henshaw. I wasn't recruited because of my sister, was I?
Hank Henshaw: Yeah, she's why you got in. You are why you to get to stay.

Stronger Together [1.02]

Hank: I see you share your cousin's appetite for wanton destruction, Miss Danvers.
Supergirl: You know, I am starting to answer to Supergirl.

Winn: Oh, God. Is that smell you?
Kara: Three showers and I still reek of burning oil. I went from superhero to eco-terrorist in a single bound.

Kara: I am not doing that interview. No. I can't... I mean I can't. Ms. Grant's not stupid. She'd recognize me in, like, one second.
James Olsen: She will look at Supergirl right in the face and she will not see her assistant.
Kara: How can you be so sure?
James: Because she doesn't see you now. I watched it happen for years with your cousin. Why don't you think that people recognize him as Clark Kent?
Kara: Reading glasses and a good slouch?
James: No, he's able to hide because the world can't believe he's really a hero in their mist.
Kara: Yeah, and I'm sure there's a good reason why my cousin keeps his job at the Daily Planet instead of flying around as Superman all the time, which would be so much easier.
James: Yeah, well, one, he's able to pay his rent.

Kara: Maybe I put the "S" on too soon.
James: Kara, look at the window. Tell me what you see.
Kara: Buildings. Billboards. There's that bar where that guy cards me all the time. He knows how old I am.
James: I see a city full of people who need help. Who need a hero.
Kara: You really think so?
James: If anyone can fill Superman's boots... It's you.

Kara: James, part of being your own man is knowing when to ask for help.

Fight or Flight [1.03]

Cat: It's you. Oh, no. I'm sorry. I meant to say who are you?
Supergirl: According to you, I'm Supergirl.
Cat: Trademark pending.

Hank: Have you lost your mind? What were you thinking giving interviews?
Kara: I wouldn't say it was an interview exactly. It was more of a private conversation that's being published.
Hank: What's next? A book deal? A reality show? "Keeping Up with the Kryptonians"?

James: [shows his signal watch] Kara, he gave me this a long time ago. If I ever got in trouble, I could contact him.
Kara: But you weren't in trouble. When did you even call him? The second I left?
James: Kara, I made a promise to your cousin. If anything ever happened to you...
Kara: My cousin doesn't get a "get out of a jam card" when he first started. Neither should I.

James: I'm just trying to keep you safe.
Kara: And, yes, I appreciate that. But of all the things the "S" stands for, safety is not one of them.

Kara: It wasn't supposed to be this way. This is the reason my mother and father sent me to Earth.
Alex: They wanted you to live.
Kara: No, it's more than that. I was supposed to be the one saving him, not the other way around. How am I supposed to really become a hero if Superman has to keep saving me?
Alex: Your story... Your story is just starting. And some day you're gonna be the one saving him.

Livewire [1.04]

Alex: Kara risks her life to protect other people and she is a hero, and yet I do the same and I'm in trouble? That is perfect.

Alex: Where are you?
Kara: I'm a little busy.
Alex: You said you would be here.
Kara: And I will be. I'm just dealing with an escaped alien prisoner.

Kara: Chocolate pecan pie is the best dessert in the galaxy, and as someone who's been to twelve different planets, I mean that literally.

Cat: Aw Leslie, you and I got through you not supporting Hilary in 2008, we can get through this.

Eliza Danvers: Kara was a little girl from another planet. She lost everything. I didn't know how to do anything but accept her. You are my daughter, Alex. I wanted you to be better than me, but that never meant I didn't love you. You have always been my Supergirl.

How Does She Do It? [1.05]

Kara: I am not in the Friend Zone.
Alex: You've spent more time in the Friend Zone than the Phantom Zone.

Kara: Ms. Grant just won the Siegel Prize for Woman in Media.
Winn: Oh, yes, she already knows. I didn't know she could smile if it wasn't based on cruelty to others.

Carter Grant: I met Supergirl. She was amazing. And she was so much prettier in person.
Cat: Oh. Well... did you notice any of her other attributes?
Carter: Um, she's super strong...
Cat: And smart and brave and kind and she saved you all. Tell me, what do you think makes her a hero?
Carter: I'd say her legs. Definitely her legs. Her heart, Mom.

Maxwell Lord: What can I get you? Or are you not allowed to drink and fly? I don't know the rules.
Supergirl: Caught your press conference. I was surprised, you're usually a little more glib.
Maxwell: There's nothing to be glib about. A sick little girl lost her father.
Supergirl: That little girl is being treated by a doctor who has a lifetime grant from your company. You said, tonight, you always build in fail safes. Like the kill switches in those bombs. Something tells me that there was a fail-safe in Knox's bomb, too. One that you could've remotely activated if I didn't save you in time. You forced Knox to plant those bombs in exchange for saving his daughter's life.
Maxwell: I would never barter a child's life. I can't speak for Knox's motives. He clearly went insane.
Supergirl: Maybe you didn't expect Knox to vaporize himself, but I do know this was all a ruse. I just can't figure out why you did it.
Maxwell: Fascinating theory. Unprovable, but worth exploring. I suspect that, whoever was responsible for these attacks, might be curious about you, Supergirl. What is she made of? How does she do it?
Supergirl: You were testing me.
Maxwell: And what would these tests have shown us? The drone would measured your agility. The building explosion, your strength. The next bomb would have demonstrated your speed while also revealing you're not actually invincible. But the results of that last test are the most intriguing of all. You chose to save a hundred people on that train, instead of thousands at the airport. One might deduce that there was someone on that train that you cared about. And finding that person is the key to revealing who you really are... when you're not flying around wearing that "S".
Supergirl: For the record, I care about everyone. You may have fooled this city, but I know you were behind this. And I'm watching you. This isn't over.
Maxwell: Finally, something we can agree on. [Supergirl flies out the window] The fun is just beginning.

Kara: Can you hack into hospital records?
Winn: Easy-peasy, fresh and squeezy... It's not something a man would say.

Red Faced [1.06]

Hank: I once told you, there are people out there who fear your cousin. It's not because he has god-like powers. It's because of what he might do to them if he ever lost his temper.

Agent Donovan: I got $20 on the robot.
Alex: Forty on the alien.

Cat: But the real key Kiera, is that you need to figure out what's really bothering you. For example, I am so furious with my mother, so I took it out on you. And you are so mad at me, but... And this is the important bit, you weren't really mad at me.
Kara: Actually, I kind of was.
Cat: No. You were really mad, at something else. You need to find, find that anger behind the anger. And you need to figure out what is really making you mad.

General Sam Lane: You let that thing get away. I thought you were on our side.
Supergirl: I tried. It fought harder this time, harder. Faster. Like it's learned a thing or two from the last go.
Lucy Lane: It's like it knew you'd choose to save those people. The tornado was just a diversion to get away. He used your humanity against you.
Sam: And now more innocent humans could be in danger. If anything else happens, you and the D.E.O. will both be held accountable.
Hank: That's enough, General. My team analyzed Red Tornado's covering. It's made out of a biosyntheic polymer which contains traces of lead. To suppress x-ray vision, right? The android wasn't meant to fight insurgents. It was designed to kill Kryptonians.
Sam: You got Fort Rozz aliens locked up downstairs. Monsters. Abominations. Some of them have wings. Some have horns. And others spit acid. Do you know the difference between them and her? She's blonde.
Hank: She saved you and your daughter, tonight. You don't owe fear and contempt. You owe her a thank you.

Kara: Would you like me to call your mother a car?
Cat: She can take her broom.

Human for a Day [1.07]

Hank: I am not Hank Henshaw. He died the same night as your father. The D.E.O. had been pursuing an alien for months. Not one of Fort Rozz prisoners, but an innocent one that was stranded on this planet. With the help of your father, the D.E.O. tracked the alien to a remote location in Peru. Henshaw led the squadron sent to terminate him.
Alex: My father would never have been part of that mission.
Hank: You're right. Jeremiah Danvers was a good man. He realized the alien we were hunting was no threat. He was a refugee, like your sister. Sole survivor of a lost world. Your father tried to stop the mission, but Henshaw was obsessed. He finally trapped the alien was hunting for so long. So, Jeremiah made the ultimate sacrifice. He gave his life to save that alien. Your father died a hero.
Alex: That alien... Is that you? But how are you him?
Hank: I am a shape shifter. When Hank Henshaw died, I assumed his identity to reform the D.E.O. But I also made your father a promise, that I would take care of his daughter. I recruited you so that I would honor that promise and protect you as if you were my own child.
Alex: If you're not Hank Henshaw, who are you?
[Hank transforms into his Martian shape]
J'onn J'onzz: I am the sole survivor of my planet. The Last Son of Mars. My name is J'onn J'onzz.

Cat: You, Ker-rah? You never get sick. That's the best part about you.
Kara: That's the best part?
Cat: If I get sick, I will under perform. If I under perform, our stock prices will fall, thousands of people will lose their job, the S&P will take a hit and you will personally have triggered the next recession. Do you want to be the next Lehman Brothers?
Kara: I guess I'll go home.
Cat: Don't exhale on the way out.

James: You lost your powers. Solar flare.
Kara: I did not know we were calling it that.
James: He does. Well, he likes to name them. You know, heat vision, freeze breath...
Kara: He's such a nerd. I don't know, today, I'm less Girl of Steel and more Girl of Stucco.

[after an earthquake hits National City]
Kara: Alex, are you okay?
Alex: I'm fine.
Kara: Liar.
Alex: Back at you.
Kara: Arm's broken here. Which, by the way, a warning would have been nice about how much that hurts.

Jemm: Bow your head when you approach me! I am Jemm, master of the Faceless Hunters! Conqueror of...
Hank: Twelve worlds. Yeah, heard you the first 10 times. It's not getting any more impressive.

Hostile Takeover [1.08]

Kara: Are you sure you want to do this?
Cat: Well, like taxes, aging, and participating in Martha Stewart's annual Secret Santa, this is just something I have to do.

Astra: Your mother always said you had the heart of a hero. I need for you to be a hero, Kara. It's time for us to be a family again.

James: I understand that Kara is special, and not just because of the cape. She's the kind of girl worth risking it all for. Hey man, if I were you, I'd risk it.

Non: You remember me, little girl?
Supergirl: You're Non. Astra's husband.
Non: To think that you're the last daughter of the once great House of El.
Supergirl: You're gonna wish I'd died with the rest of them!

Alex: Kara, this is war, and to win a war, sometimes the enemy has to die. But can you look me in the eye and tell me that you are prepared to kill?
Kara: Superman doesn't kill.
Alex: If that's your answer then you shouldn't fight her.

Blood Bonds [1.09]

Kara: Ms. Grant, they were out of lattes, so here's a coffee.
Cat: Hmm. And here you are, delivering it to me as a normal, boring person.
Kara: Well, that's what I am. I'm very boring and really normal. So, um, I'll just get out of your hair.
Cat: Why? Have a building to leap in a single bound?

Kara: I stopped by that food truck you like.
Alex: The one in Chicago? You are my favorite person.

Supergirl: You know, you guys could have told me. I can keep a secret.
Hank and Alex: No, you can't.

Winn: If you go after Maxwell Lord like this, then you know what, you're just proving him right. That you are no different from Astra or Non.
Kara: What if I'm not so different?
Winn: You have to be, Kara. Because if you aren't, then we lose.

Kara: Whenever I'm confused or overwhelmed I come in your office and you somehow sense it-like your superpower. I know I'm not going to be your assistant for the rest of my life, but I do know whatever I do next will be easier because of everything you taught me. And the truth is I need you now more than I ever have.

Childish Things [1.10]

Kara: I know there's nothing anyone can say to make you feel better right now.
Winn: Well, hey, you have a homicidal maniac in your family, too, so you know where I'm coming from.

Winn: The day he set off a toy bomb and killed six people is the day I stopped being his son.

Supergirl: You can feel like this all the time, you know. Free. Untethered. True to who you really are.
Hank: The world needs Hank Henshaw more than it needs J'onn J'onzz.

Hank: I have been J'onn J'onzz on Earth. I have tried it. I was hunted for 50 years. People I've loved have tried to kill me once they discovered who I really was.
Alex: I'm sorry. But times have changed. Look at Supergirl, the world loves her...
Hank: Your sister looks like a pretty blonde cheerleader. J'onn J'onzz looks like a monster. I will never be tolerated here on Earth. The more time I spend as Hank Henshaw, the less I have to face what I've lost. But when I change my state, shapeshift into someone new, call upon new powers, I get one step closer to becoming the Martian Manhunter forever.

Cat: Now, look, I'm not immune to the allure of James Olsen wearing a shirt that is unbuttoned one too many. But a woman with brains who gives up everything for love inevitably finds herself staring into an existential abyss that men, babies and cardio bars simply cannot fill.

Strange Visitor from Another Planet [1.11]

Alex: So what do we do now?
Hank: We don't do anything
Alex: No. No. No. That's not happening. We are going to bring this thing in together.
Hank: We are not bringing this in.
Alex: What do you mean?
Hank: You know exactly what I mean... I will find its lair. And when I do I will drop this human coat I wear and break its body in half and bury it in the dry sand.

Adam Foster: I'm confused. Is it "Kira" or "Kara"?
Kara: "Kira" to your mom, "Kara" to literally everyone else on the planet, and beyond.

Supergirl: I'm not leaving you alone with that thing
Hank: You have to. I'm done.
Supergirl: Done? Done with what? It has Alex. We've got to stop it.
Hank: This started because it wanted me dead- with my race gone if I'm all that's left. Let it have me.
Supergirl: No! This murderer does not get to win. And you don't get to give up!
Hank: It will save Alex.
Supergirl: We don't get to choose. We fight!

Supergirl: I ask myself everyday why my mother didn't crawl into that pod with me. Now I know she felt guilty. She felt responsible for what happened on Krypton. That dying must've seemed... honorable But dying is a lot easier than getting back up when the world has ended. You have to get up. You have to go on.
Hank: My road is done. I'll help Alex and then join my people wherever they are.

Hank: [after putting Kryptonite restraints on Supergirl] I'm sorry. But I can't let you stop me.
Supergirl: J'onn. J'onn. J'onn. Listen to me. I lost everything - everyone. It makes a hole in your heart. But you can't fall into it. You have to fill it. You have to fight. Do not throw away who you are. If you do that thing wins. The last son of Mars dies even if you're still standing.

Bizarro [1.12]

Hank: Maxwell Lord has a god complex, but he's not an actual god.

Alex: I sent a team to scan the area. No signs of extraterrestrial activity, so we can probably rule out an alien shapeshifter. Unless there's something you're not telling us.
Hank: The skirt was surprisingly comfortable, but no.

Supergirl: She's as strong as me. She flies like me, she fights like me, except for that the fact that she talks like Cookie Monster, she is exactly like me.

Alex: He all but admitted it. He took all those girls. All seven. Even the Bizarro you.
Hank: Is that what we're calling it?
Supergirl: Another Catco trademark.

Hank: What the hell do you think you're doing, Alex?
Alex: I have no choice, Hank. He's had us under surveillance. He knows about the D.E.O., he knows about Kara.
Hank: I don't care if he's got the nuclear codes and his finger's on the button. That is not some anonymous alien you've brought in. That is Maxwell Lord, head of a multi-billion dollar organization. Time magazine's ranking person of the year. Everybody's gonna be looking for this guy.
Alex: They won't find him.
Hank: You're compromising the security of this entire operation.
Alex: And he is compromising the security of my family. Guess which one I care about more. We are all willing to do a lot of things to protect our secrets, Hank. I would think you'd understand that better than anyone.

For the Girl Who Has Everything [1.13]

Hank: What the hell are these guys doing here?
James: Where Supergirl goes, we go.
Hank: This is a top secret facility Mr. Olsen, you think I'm going to let the media waltz in here?
Winn: Actually, I'm in IT, so definitely not worth shooting.

Alex: I used to resent her for coming into my home. For following me around at school. Some strange girl who didn't know how to fit in. For embarrassing me in front of my friends. But all Kara wanted was a family. And that's what she is to me. She is my sister.

Alex: I know Director Henshaw. If he thinks I'm in trouble when I'm plugged into that thing, he's going to pull me out, whether I've saved Kara or not. I need you to stop him. I either come back with my sister, or I don't come back at all.

Alex: [to Supergirl] I can't promise you a life without pain and loss because pain is a part of life. It's what makes us who we are. It is what makes you a hero!

[Alex killed Astra, but Hank took the fall for it]
Alex: Astra may have been Kara's enemy on the battlefield, but she was also family. She's taking it hard.
Hank: Yeah, I knew she would.
Alex: She never stopped believing Astra could be saved.
Hank: That's the difference between soldiers and heroes.
Alex: Sir, why did you lie to Kara?
Hank: Because you're Supergirl's hero. And I don't want her to see you as anything but.

Truth, Justice and the American Way [1.14]

Master Jailer: You waisted your ammo.
Alex: No I didn't! Because here comes the sun.

Maxwell: Without me, you'd be dead!
Supergirl: Without you, the world is a better place!

Siobhan Smythe: Kara! Just wanted you to know I did all your work for you while you were gone. I don't think Cat even noticed a difference.

Non: She would have wanted you here. It is our custom for a surviving female to lead the rites. Do you remember the Prayer for the Dead?
Supergirl: You have been the sun of our lives. Our prayers will be the sun that lights your way on the journey home. We will remember you in every dawn. And await the night we join you in the sky. Rao's will be done.

Alex: If you don't have better angels, and I suspect you don't. You should know, we have a mass the size of this room documenting your crimes. Ready for immediate release to law enforcement. You tell on us. We tell on you.
Maxwell: Mutually assured destruction. You make me nostalgic for the Cold War, Alex.
Alex: Das vedanya.
Maxwell: Brrr.

Solitude [1.15]

Winn: You realize I'm learning an alien coding language in the same amount of time it takes to watch an episode of Dr. Who, right?…That's like, that's like really fast.

Cat: Toyman, Jr., you're the computer expert. Fix this.
Winn: I definitely liked it better when she did not know who I was.

Winn: How's it, how's it going Siobhan?
Siobhan: I'm sorry, I have difficulty making conversation with men under 6ft. tall.

Siobhan: Ms. Grant, this came for you via private courier, I've been keeping it safe from prying eyes.
Cat: Why didn't you open it? It could be anthrax?

James: Lucy. Please remember I would never try and hurt you.
Lucy: Then how do you keep managing to do it?

Falling [1.16]

Cat: It's not easy being let down by our idols. Having someone who embodies our heroic ideals helps us to believe that we can be heroes, too. Sometimes heroes fall.

Winn: What, how- That's Cat's elevator.
Kara: It is absolutely ridiculous for her to have her own personal elevator. Plus, horrible for the environment.
Winn: You are literally impervious to bullets, and I'm worried for your safety right now.

Cat: God knows, I hate a generic sports metaphor, but that interview was a touchdown. A home run. Whatever you call it when you do something good in hockey.

K'hund: Your mother-
Supergirl: Sentenced you to Fort Ross. Blah blah, ruined your life, I've heard the story. You wanna fight about it?

Maxwell: And tonight she threw Cat Grant off her building.
Winn: She killed Ms. Grant!?

Manhunter [1.17]

Kara: When you are an alien, you are willing to sacrifice anything, everything, betray your fundamental instincts just to fit in. To belong somewhere, to find your place in the world.

Alex: I have worked for that man for the last two years, He has never endangered this planet, he has protected it.
James Harper: Two years? This alien is over 300 years old. Two years is like a coffee break to him.

Jeremiah Danvers: I know you were only trying to help. But the world already has a Superman. All you need to be is Kara Danvers.

Siobhan: Seriously. I have too much self-esteem to kill myself. Killing someone else on the other hand...
Winn: I'm sorry, but what did you expect me to do?!
Siobhan: I don't know! Not rat me out to freaking Cat Grant!

Supergirl: What am I gonna do without you?
Alex: You don't need me. You never have.
Supergirl: Yeah well you still took care of me anyway.

Worlds Finest [1.18]

[Barry Allen is explaining to the others about the multiverse and how he arrived.]
Barry Allen: [drawing circles on a whiteboard] All right. So imagine there are multiple versions of Earth. One where, uh... the Nazis won World War II , one where Kennedy was never assassinated...
Winn: [raising a hand like he's in a classroom] Okay, one where all of us are evil.
Barry: Been there. It sucks. So all of these Earths occupy the same place in space, but they vibrate at a different frequency, so they can't see one another.
Winn: Yeah, yeah, but it's like, if you can go fast enough, then it's possible to open, like, a breach and then travel between worlds.
Barry: Yeah.
James: But how could you travel that fast?
Barry: [amused] Uh, well, um...
[Barry races out of the room at super-speed, then returns seconds later, giving each of them an ice cream cone.]
Kara: [overjoyed] Yeess!!
Barry: Yeah. So, um... I was struck by lightning the same night a particle accelerator exploded, and I became a... superhero.
[Kara giggles, impressed and a little smitten.]
James: So, so, so... y-you're a superhero, too.
Barry: Mmm-hmm.
James: [subdued] Tha-that's cool, I guess.

Cat: [surveying Kara, Barry, James and Winn, who are standing before her] All four of you standing there doing nothing. You look like the attractive yet non-threatening, racially diverse cast of a CW show.

Barry: What's the plan?
Kara: Catch the bad girl. Bring her back here so she can't hurt anyone. Eighty-five percent chance of punching.

Kara: When I was helping people as Supergirl, I was... I was so happy. And now that the people don't want me to help them, I feel lost. And I'm in such a hurry to prove myself again, I'm making stupid mistakes, like today.
Barry: This is going to sound ironic coming from me, but you need to slow down. Just keep doing your good work. Don't worry about the rest. The public will forgive you, I promise.
Kara: How can you be so sure?
Barry: 'Cause the same thing happened to me.
Kara: Really?
Barry: Mm-hmm.
Kara: So what finally fixed things?
Barry: Time.

Cat: Tell Mr. Allen to have a good time zipping around in his red outfit.
Kara: Wait, you knew he was the Flash?
Cat: Oh, please. Barry shows up, the Flash shows up, his insistence on that silly name, and he was so unfailingly charming and nice that he had to be either a superhero or a Mormon. Kira, I can spot the extraordinary pretending to be a nobody in my midst just like that! [snaps her fingers right in front of Kara's face.]

Myriad [1.19]

Cat: Kira, call Harrison Ford and tell him that I'm flattered, but once and for all, I do not date older men. Especially when they're married.

Cat: Ah, you do have a cell phone? Can I get that number, please?
Supergirl: It's Superman.
Cat: Oh, can I get his number as well?

Eliza: So, Mars... I have to ask, underneath it all, are you a little green man?
Hank: I'm a big green man, actually.
Eliza: Ha! And how are you able to change form? Is it an enzyme or some other chemical catalyst your body secretes that allows you to reorganize your DNA? And how do you adjust for the change in body density? How does your respiratory system process the increased oxygen and nitrogen present in our air that...
[Hank laughs]
Eliza: What? What is so funny?
Hank: Like mother, like daughter.

Supergirl: This doesn't look like victory to me. And all you doing is betraying her. I was with Astra in her final moments. We forgave each other, we paid respect to our blood bonds. She didn't want this.
Non: Of course she did. It's what everyone wants, is it not? Peace on Earth. Goodwill towards men.
Cat: It's a lot less like Christmas out there and more like Dawn of the Dead.

Maxwell: So, what's your plan?
Supergirl: Hope.
Maxwell: You know what? I'm gonna go with the plan that has the bomb to kill the bad guys.
Supergirl: No bomb. No one dies.
Maxwell: You think I wanna do this? It's the only way to win.
Supergirl: What? What are we winning? Causing more chaos? More destruction? More lives lost? You hated me for months, because you thought I'd use my power indiscriminately, kill people with no regard for their lives. That is exactly the choice you're making with this bomb. That is exactly the choice you're making with this bomb.
Cat: Please tell me you've had enough analysis to know that she's right.
Supergirl: You were afraid of me. Now you're afraid of Non. I understand that fear. But we cannot let it drive our actions. Make another choice that honors your parents. And mine.

Better Angels [1.20]

Supergirl: People of National City, this is Supergirl, and... I hope you can hear me. We have been attacked. Mothers and fathers, friends and neighbors, children, everyone, suddenly stopped by a force of evil as great as this world has ever known. Your attacker has sought to take your free will. Your individuality. Your spirit, everything that makes you who you are. When facing an attack like this, it's easy to feel hopeless. We retreat, we lose our strength, we lose ourselves. I know. I lost everything when I was young. When I first landed on this planet, I was sad and alone. But I found out that there is so much love in this world, out there for the taking. And you, the people of National City, you helped me. You let me be who I'm meant to be. You gave me back to myself. You made me stronger than I ever thought possible, and I love you for that. Now, in each and every one of you, there is a light, a spirit that cannot be snuffed out. That won't give up. I need your help again. I need you to hope. Hope... that you will remember that you can all be heroes. Hope... that when faced with an enemy determined to destroy your spirit, you will fight back and thrive. Hope... that those who once may have shunned you will, in a moment of crisis, come to your aid. Hope... that you will see again the faces of those you love. And perhaps even those you've lost.

James: Well, I'm just happy that you're safe and the three of us are back together.
Kara: Me, too.
James: But I think we should talk about that thing that happened, uh... right before Myriad struck.
Kara: The thing.
James: Yeah. The thing thing.
Kara: [realizing] The thing.
James: Hmm.
Winn: [understanding] Oh, this thing has nothing to do with me. All good. I got other things. [leaves]

Supergirl: I just... we both know what I'm up against, and I will save the Earth, I promise you that. I just don't know if I'll make it out alive. I didn't say the things that needed to be said when I left Krypton, and I wanted to make sure I said them now - just in case.
Hank: I was exactly where you are, Kara. And when I was, you told me to never give up.
Supergirl: I'm not giving up. But my mother didn't send me to Earth to fall in love with a human, have children, live in a house with a white picket fence. She sent me here to protect Kal-El. And now I will use my powers to protect the Earth. And if I die achieving that, I'm at peace with it. I'll join my mother. We'll be together in Rao's light.

[Kara receives a text message from her cousin on her computer.]
Clark: My hero.
Kara: Clarkǃ OMGǃ How are you feeling?
Clark: Oooǃ Is this what a hangover feels like?
Kara: You're asking the wrong girl.
Clark: Clearly you're made of much stronger stuff.
Kara: Only just figured that out?
Clark: Seriously. You saved the world, Kara. I couldn't be prouder.

[Cat has just promoted Kara and given her a new office.]
Cat: This is a step up for you, Kira. This is your "end-of-Working Girl-moment." And if you take advantage of it, I really believe that you can change the world. [turns and starts to leave]
Kara: Miss Grant? [Cat turns around.] The end of Working Girl always makes me cry.
Cat: Oh. Me, too. [makes a deep dramatic sigh] If you work hard, there might be a window in your future... Kara.

Season 2

Opening voiceover
When I was a child, my planet Krypton was dying. I was sent to Earth to protect my cousin. But my pod got knocked off-course and by the time I got here, my cousin had already grown up and become... Superman. I hid who I really was until one day when an accident forced me to reveal myself to the world. To most people, I'm a reporter at CatCo Worldwide Media. But in secret, I work with my adoptive sister for the D.E.O. to protect my city from alien life and anyone else that means to cause it harm. I am Supergirl.

The Adventures of Supergirl [2.1]

Supergirl: Where are we?
Hank: The Department of Extranormal Operations.
Supergirl: Wait. Wait, wait, wait. This has always been here? With the glass and the views and... and you made me fly into that cave every day?
Hank: D.E.O. has several facilities, Kara
Supergirl: A bat bit me in the last one.
Hank: Whiner.
Alex: Hey, sis.
Supergirl: You knew about this place, too?
Alex: Yeah. It's, like, a block from my apartment. It's kinda like the old place. Maybe better.

[Supergirl and Superman have just saved a space shuttle.]
Supergirl: That was awesome! I mean, that was terrible, but it was awesome. We've never saved anything together.
Superman: I know.
Supergirl: I've dreamt of this moment. The two of us teaming up.
Superman: [chuckling] Me, too.
[A family on bicycles stops near them.]
Supergirl: I usually say "Hi".
Superman: Me, too.
Girl: Way to go, Supergirl.
Father: That's Superman.
Supergirl: [aside to the girl] I used to change his diapers.
Girl: No way!
Superman: [through a forced smile] Um, not exactly sure you have to tell them that.
Supergirl: [amused] No, I think I, I really do.
Superman: Okay.

Kara: I love being Supergirl, that part of my life is clear. But the rest of it....
Clark: You mean Jimmy?
Kara: How'd you know that?
Clark: It's super-telepathy. It's a power you'll get someday.
Kara: Really?
Clark: No. Jimmy and I are friends. We talk.

Hank: People think we should talk.
Superman: What's there to talk about? You keep kryptonite here, J'onn. It could kill me, it could kill Kara.
Hank: I would never let it be used like that.
Superman: I know you wouldn't. But what happens when you're not in charge any more? What happens if you get an order from a superior, the President herself? As long as you have kryptonite here, I can't be a part of what you do.

Kara: Okay. Uh... I made my decision.
Cat: [consults her smart phone] Forty-three minutes before the deadline. This better be good.
Kara: [deep breath] I want to be a reporter. I can't believe I didn't see it before. Being a reporter's about connecting with people, it's about finding hidden truths and sharing it with the world. It's about service. And telling the stories that need to be told in order to make the world a better and more comprehensible place. And it's going to make me the best version of myself as it will definitely push me out of my comfort zone. This is it for me, this is my calling.

The Last Children of Krypton [2.2]

Cat: Oh, watching Clark Kent walk away is like trencendental meditation. All of your worries, all of your concerns in life, they just [sighs] fall away.

Project Cadmus: [broadcasted mission statement] People of National City, the Earth has been stolen from us. The enemy has come in the guise of heroes. They say they come in peace, to protect us from ourselves. But how long will it be before these gods decide to rule instead of serve? We are the antidote to their poison. We are the scientists who will show them what humans are capable of. Those who have sided with the invaders will not be spared. You cannot stop us. We are everywhere. We are Cadmus.

Snapper Carr: You don't get a chair, Ponytail.
Kara: That's fine. I like action better anyway. I can pound the pavement.
Snapper: You don't get a chair 'cause you don't work here.
Kara: But that's not your call. Miss Grant hired me.
Snapper: I don't care what Cat says. My office, my hires.
Kara: But this is the job I chose.
Snapper: Oh, you chose it. Well, you didn't earn it. You don't just become a reporter. This isn't a Facebook status update. You're a reporter because you went to journalism school or because you walked the beat. Either way, journals live to tell stories. To get to the truth. To get their hands dirty.
Kara: I'll admit I have a lot to learn, but if you just give me an assignment --
Snapper: No assignment. No job. Now get your entitled ass out of my office before I channel my last divorce and break you emotionally.

[Superman and Hank arrive at the Fortress of Solitude. Hanks sees statues of Superman's parents.]
Hank: Your parents?
Superman: Yes.
Hank: [in Kryptonian] They have not left you, even in the face of death.
Superman: You speak Kryptonian.
Hank: Both men without a home, Kal. If we don't preserve each other's history, who will?
Superman: Can't have it both ways, J'onn. Can't offer friendship with one hand and kryptonite with the other.
Hank: I have to.
Superman: Why?
Hank: Because Mars is a crypt. Because angry gods burned our young and we were helpless to stop them. Because I will not be caught unprepared again. Hate me if you want. It is what it is.
Superman: I don't hate you, J'onn. I just don't trust you. Because you don't trust me. We should have been allies. Is kryptonite really worth us being alone in this fight?

Alex: Here we are. Once again doing everything we can to help Kara, to keep her safe. Do you know the... the last time I went on a date? [whispers] Two years ago. You date more often than I do.
Winn: Rude. You ever spend time inside a foster home?
Alex: No.
Winn: Yeah, well, I have. After my father went to prison. And I gotta say, it is nothing but being told how grateful you should be that someone is taking care of you. Dude, that's not family. Family is not about scorekeeping or who did more. It's just about showing up. So just chill with the attitude, okay?

Welcome to Earth [2.3]

Supergirl: It's amazing. An Executive Order allowing aliens on Earth to come out of the shadows and live as full citizens. She's making history.
Hank: Not in my book. I think she's making a big mistake.
Supergirl: How can you, of all people, say that?
Hank: 'Cause it's been my hard experience that humans and aliens don't mix.
Supergirl: What about you and me?
Hank: What about us? We can look like them, we blend in. A lot of aliens can't. And people in this world don't have much tolerance for others who look different. I say that as an alien and someone who's worn the face of a black man for fifteen years.

Alex: I know. I know what you're gonna say. I should have waited for you.
Supergirl: No. I was gonna say "You should have waited for me, dummy." What if he'd actually been there? What would you have done?
Alex: My job.
Supergirl: [sighs] Make smarter choices next time. [walks off]
Alex: Yes, ma'am.

Winn: Hey, how's your article coming?
Kara: Awful.
Winn: Oh, uh, there's... there's no "k" in "diabolical".

Madam President: My fellow Americans. Over a century ago, this nation erected a monument in New York Harbor. A Statue of Liberty. That statue looked down upon Ellis Island where thousands of immigrants came to seek refuge from a home country that didn't want them, that wouldn't have them. But America took them in. That is our story! The American people today stand as one with history. No longer will our alien visitors be strangers. Committed to the shadows, forced to the fringes of a hostile and unwelcoming world. They will be granted the full rights and privileges of American citizens. The Statue of Liberty will stand for aliens, too.

Madam President: And a very personal "Thank you" to both of you.
Supergirl: [flustered] It was an honor, Madame President, it was nothing. And I still can't believe I got to see Air Force One.
Madam President: If you think that's cool, you ought to see my other jet. [winks]

Survivors [2.4]

Mon-El: So what do you guys do for fun around here? You drink, or dance, or... Oh, hey, do they play garrata here?
Alex: What's "garatta"?
Supergirl: It's like soccer. With dragons.
Winn: No. Not that. Uh, we have... PlayStation...
Mon-El: Great. So when do we get outta here and do that... that thing you just said?

Snapper: You're supposed to be at the sanitation department, getting figures on pelican deaths at the trash dump.
Kara: I'm so excited about that, but I just overheard a report about a murdered alien on my NCPD scanner. They're calling it "alien on alien violence."
Snapper: An alien got killed. An alien did it. Where's the story?
Kara: I... I just told you the story.
Snapper: Really? So you got an actual NCPD source to speak on the record? Did you talk to the victim's family? Set up an interview with the DA's office to see if and when charges will be filed? Where's the medical examiner's report? Did you research economic and demographic indicators of vice in context of human-alien race relations?
Kara: All very good questions... Uh...
Snapper: You didn't give me a story, you gave me a half-baked idea. Go bake it fully, then I'll talk to you. [Kara shakes her head exasperatedly] Go! Bake, bake, bake!

Hank: The Bond is the traditional Martian way of communicating. We link minds. Share dreams, emotions... memories. We kept no secrets from one another. Imagine. A world without ego and selfishness. Without... lies.
Supergirl: It sounds beautiful.

[Alex and Sawyer are chasing down Roulette]
Alex: Hey, stop! Back up!
[the aliens who fight for Roulette stand in a protective ring around her]
Roulette: They know who really looks out for them.
Supergirl: Stand down! Everybody stand down! Things are bad I know, but fighting amongst each other, that's what they want us to do. Other aliens are not the enemy, [points at Roulette] she is! And the more we fight each other, the more we distract each other from the real problems: Cadmus, people like Roulette. They say we are dangerous, that's what they want everyone to believe. Don't let them be right about us.
[The aliens close on Roulette and block her, allowing Sawyer to arrest her]

Mon-El: I heard you took out Draaga.
Supergirl: Yeah. Thanks for the tip.
Mon-El: Yeah, I thought it would be fun to have his powers.
Supergirl: It can be. It will be. I'm going to teach you how.
Mon-El: I got the impression you didn't want to spend time with me.
Supergirl: Well, you're right, I didn't. But I asked the D.E.O. to release you into my custody.
Mon-El: Really? Why?
Supergirl: I wasn't sent to planet Earth to be a hero. I was sent to protect my cousin. To teach him and keep him safe. And I never got to fulfill that purpose. So, in a weird way, helping you... it gives me another chance to do that.

Crossfire [2.5]

Kara: Eve, have you met our new intern?
[Mon-El hands Eve a coffee]
Eve Teschmacher: Thank you so much!
Mon-El: Sure.
Eve: What's your name?
Mon-El: Mike. Number 45800...
Kara: [cutting him off] No, Mike, you don't need to give her your social security number.
Mon-El: So, I memorized that fake ID for nothing?
Kara: You mean your real ID?

[Kara hears with her superhearing sex moans]
Eve: Do you have protection?
Mon-El: Do you mean like a sword?
Kara: Ewww, God, get it out of my ears!

[Winn walks in as James is bandaging his ribs]
Winn: I thought male corsets went out of style in the late 1800's.
James: Nah, I was just, um... I was shooting some hoops last night and hurt some ribs.
Winn: [touches him in the ribs] You're a terrible liar, Olsen. So I hacked into this security footage taken at the Federal Reserve that got attacked last night. The same place I told you about yesterday. [shows James his image from the footage] Great disguise by the way. What were you thinking?
James: You wouldn't understand.
Winn: Well, then, enlighten me! Because all I see here is a crazy dude with a baseball bat and a ski mask and a death wish.
James: My whole life, I have been a sidekick. I have hidden behind my camera. All my best friends wear capes and they're heroes and they save people, and I want to do something good for the world, and I feel like I've waited too long already. Winn, you found the work you're supposed to do at the D.E.O. I haven't, not here. But I feel like this is it.
Winn: I hate to break it to you, dude, but you don't have superpowers.
James: I know! But I can do this. We can do this.
Winn: I'm sorry, "we"?
James: Yes, "we". I mean, I have a black belt and you're right, I don't have powers. You can make me a suit, you can build me a weapon, and together we can level the playing field. C'mon.
Winn: No, no, no, I can't do it.
James: You helped Kara!
Winn: There's a difference! She can fly, you're just tall.
James: You know, watching my dad's camera get destroyed reminded me of something. He gave his life protecting this country, and if I do this, I can honor him.
Winn: Or you can end up just like him.
James: Winn, I'm gonna continue being that crazy guy with the baseball bat and the ski mask... with or without you.
Winn: James, guys like us, we are here to give people information, right? To fight with knowledge. There is no shame in that man! You gotta think this, through. You're gonna get yourself killed.

Alex: When you first arrived at our house, I thought "Finally, I have a sister".
Kara: An alien sister.
Alex: Even better. But I still wanted you to be just like me, to do everything I did. So I dragged you out to science fairs.
Kara: Those were so boring.
Alex: Made you watch scary movies.
Kara: What do you have against a good old romantic comedy?
Alex: Forced you to listen to the music that I liked.
Kara: Yeah, your punk rock phase was very strange.
Alex: But, finally, I let it go, let you do your own thing, find your own hobbies, listen to your own weird music.
Kara: Weird? NSYNC, first of all, is not weird, and second of all, they are amazing.
Alex: Mon-El is not you, just like you're not me. So what works for you might not work for him. You know, people just have to... we have to figure out what works for them, know who they are inside, what they're meant to be.
Kara: So you're saying the job and sweater and the glasses are a bit too much?
Alex: Not everyone can rock argyle like you do.

[Both Kara Danvers and Supergirl have been invited to the gala]
Winn: Okay, so the moan particle detector will let us know if there are any weapons within a hundred feet.
Kara: Are you sure?
Winn: Have I ever been wrong before? [Kara gives him a pointed look] Okay, this time I am sure.
Kara: I see Lena. Commence Operation Doubtfire.

Changing [2.6]

Alex: Hey.
Kara: [drunkenly] Hey... Hey, you look like my sister.
Alex: Are you slurring your words?
Kara: Am I? [slowly] Cho-co-late. Cho-co-late.
Alex: Wow, Kara Danvers drunk. That... that's a first. Hey... wow... hey, have you seen– [looks around and sees Maggie at the pool table] You know... I'm driving you home.
Kara: I'm not flying. That's for sure.

Maggie Sawyer: How are you doing with all that? [referring to Alex coming out]
Alex: I just... I don't know what to do now. I mean, I'm almost 30, and I feel like a kid again.
Maggie: Well, everyone's experience is different. I can only tell you what I did.
Alex: Which was what?
Maggie: I came out to my family.
Alex: How did they take it?
Maggie: Well, um, my dad isn't exactly known for his open-mindedness, but he was pretty good. And so was my mum.
Alex: Maybe it's just a phase? You know, maybe it isn't real?
Maggie: No, it's real. You're real, and you deserve to have a real, full, happy life. Okay? Tell your family. This is the biggest thing that's ever happened to you, and you shouldn't have to do it alone.
Alex: I have you.
Maggie: Yeah, you do. And I'm good for a drink when you come out.
Alex: You promise?
Maggie: Cross my heart.

Winn: So what, are you out of your mind? Like, what's going on?
James: Are you? Kara almost died, Winn!
Winn: You think that I don't know that? I– get out of here.
James: Look, I'm sorry, okay? I know I don't hold the copyright on caring for Kara, but we're out of time, man! I need this suit now!
Winn: When it's ready, I will let you know.
James: NO! Now! Winn.
Winn: Are you serious? No, no. I'm not taking orders from you.
James: I'm–
Winn: Dude, I'm not your assistant, I'm not the IT guy. I'm the guy who knows what he's talking about!
James: I know.
Winn: In fact, I'm better at this kind of stuff than anyone else you'll ever meet! And until I finish making it all fancy, it's just gonna be a glorified Halloween costume. So when I tell you the suit is not ready, that means if you go out there right now, you're gonna die. You will die. And then what? You– you're not gonna be helping anyone.

Alex: You've been weird ever since I told you.
Kara: I don't mean to be.
Alex: Kara, I know when you're sad, or when you're disappointed. I don't know what I would do if you were disappointed in me.
Kara: I would never be disappointed in you, but you said you didn't want to talk about it anymore.
Alex: Well, I do. If... if you're not okay with it...
Kara: I'm SO okay with it! Sit down. Alex, come and talk with me. [Alex sits] I think I owe you an apology.
Alex: For what?
Kara: For not creating an environment where you felt that you could talk about this with me. All those years we spent together growing up, the endless nights talking and sharing, now I realize that they were all about me and my secret. There's never been room for you, and that's my fault. And I'm so sorry.
Alex: You didn't do anything wrong.
Kara: And I know... I know that this is not the same at all, but I do know how it feels to keep a part of yourself shut off, to keep it inside. And I know how lonely that can make you feel. But Alex, you are not alone.
Alex: I can't do this without you.
Kara: You don't have to. So what about Maggie? What's she like?
Alex: I... I just like her so much. You know, she's smart and she's tough and she's just beautiful. She's so beautiful.
Kara: So are you.
[The Danvers sisters hug, Alex gets a message on her phone]
Alex: D.E.O.'s reporting an alien attacking civilians in an alleyway downtown.
Kara: I'll go get the alien. You get the girl.

James: I better suit-up.
Winn: Hey, before you open it, I need you to make sure you are sure, alright? This will be the end of James Olsen. Full stop. You do this, you are someone else. There's a cost. Are you sure?
James: I have been ready to do this since the day I found out the truth about Clark Kent. This is who I am. I can't hide behind my camera anymore. If there's a cost, I'll pay it.
Winn: That's a pretty good answer.

The Darkest Place [2.7]

Winn: You know, for a place that caters to aliens, they have some freaking good chicken wings.
Kara: How do you know that's chicken?

Maggie: C'mon Alex, we're friends.
Alex: No, Maggie, we're not friends.
Maggie: Umm, okay, I'm lost. What happened?
Alex: We hung out, we got close. Then you called me out for liking you, and then I had the guts to admit "yes, it's true." And you told me that my feelings were real and that I deserve to be happy. And so I thought you meant that I deserve to be happy with you.
Maggie: Alex, I–
Alex: No, I'm not done. Because then you convinced me to come out to my sister, and I did. Because I was sure of one thing, and that was my feelings for you. Initially I was terrified, but ultimately I was proud to come out. Because it wasn't just some concept, it was about my feelings for this amazing woman. But now, I don't feel liberated or like I'm on some great journey. All I feel is pain because you don't want me.

Mon-El: [imprisoned in a cell] If you would just tell me why I'm here, I promise it'll be a good conversation starter. Okay, I give up, what's your favorite baseball team? It's the one with the hoop and the tall guys bouncing the balls, right? Oh, courtship ring! You know, I've just learned that there is a longstanding mating ritual here, where if you like it, you should've put a ring on it. Clearly you've been successful in this arena, so... But from the looks of you, she can't be that pretty... like what do you call ugly women on this planet? Is it cats? No, dogs.

Lillian Luthor: Supergirl. I don't believe we've been introduced.
Supergirl: I've seen you before, in Lena Luthor's office. What were you doing there?
Lillian: I might ask you the same. I don't like the idea of you around my daughter.
Supergirl: You're Lillian Luthor. Lex and Lena's mother.
Lillian: I'm a lot of things. A doctor, a patriot, a mother...
Supergirl: A liar, a kidnapper, a killer. Does Lena know about Cadmus? Does she know who her mother really is?
Lillian: And what are you to my daughter?
Supergirl: I'm a friend.
Lillian: I've heard that before. Years ago, Superman came to my son, Lex, and promised him the world. A new dawn for mankind. Lex believed him, poor thing. And then he watched as your kinsman infected this country with his propaganda, as his power became unchecked. And when Lex tried to take that power back, Superman convinced the world Lex was evil. My darling boy. My genius son. An actual superman, behind bars for life. Because you and your kind will stop at nothing to poison Earth.
Supergirl: You're out of your mind.
Lillian: We'll agree to disagree.
Supergirl: So, what am I doing here?
Lillian: I need something from you. I need you to be human for a little while. I know from your fight with Red Tornado when you expel enough of your heat vision, you deplete the solar radiation in your cells, leaving you as helpless as any mere mortal. I designed this helmet to absorb the radiation.
Supergirl: You want me to solar flare? That's never gonna happen.
Lillian: I can't hurt you. But I can hurt him. [shoots Mon-El in his leg]
Supergirl: No! Mon-El!
Lillian: Now we've been studying your friend. He's powerful, but has a very bad lead allergy. Say you'll do it and I'll let him live. Or I can just put one in his heart right now.

Maggie: I really need to talk to you. And if you just give me two minutes of your time I promise I'll be out of your hair.
Alex: Two minutes.
Maggie: I heard everything you said. I get it. And if you never wanna talk to me again, I'll respect that, I'll disappear. But I don't meet many people that I care about, and I care about you a lot. You've become really important to me, and umm I hope that one day you and I can be friends. Because I don't want to imagine my life without you in it.
Alex: [goes back into the apartment] Pool, tomorrow night.
Maggie: Wouldn't miss it.

Medusa [2.8]

Eliza: [comes to Alex who is working on the computer] So, what is it?
Alex: I've got the mainframe breaking down the virus on a molecular level.
Eliza: No, I mean I know you've been trying to tell me something.
Alex: Oh, no. No. [collects herself] How?
Eliza: Keeping a secret disagrees with you, sweetie.
Alex: This isn't like that, Mom.
Eliza: Does it have anything to do with Maggie? You mention her a lot. Oh, my beautiful Alexandra, why is it so hard for you to tell me?
Alex: I feel like I'm... letting you down. Somehow.
Eliza: Why would your being gay ever let me down?
Alex: You always wanted me to have a regular life.
Eliza: Alex, look at the life our family has led. Look at me, look at your sister. I don't think you believed that I ever expected you to have a regular life. You were always gonna be different, Alex, because you were always exceptional, and I love you however you are. Come here! [hugs Alex]

J'onn: [joins Kara on the balcony] I like this view much better than the stalactites of our last office. Here, the lives we are charged to protect are always in view.
Kara: Kind of reminds me of the view from my room on Krypton. I could see the whole city from that window. All the lights, pods zooming by. But then again, I guess I didn't truly see anything. All my life, I thought my parents were the good guys. And now the more I learn, the more I see things, how they really are. And more... that I'm ashamed to be their daughter.
J'onn: Kara, your parents tried to protect the planet, they tried to save lives.
Kara: I'm sure Lex and Lillian Luthor thought their intentions were good, too. Is this their legacy? Death and destruction across the universe?
J'onn: Your parents' legacy is not death and destruction, Kara Zor-El. It's you.

[Supergirl walks in through the door to the balcony]
Lena Luthor: [smiling] You know, that door's not really an entrance.... You know, actually, I just wanted to thank you for earlier on. Not only did you save the lives of countless numbers of my employees, but mine as well.
Supergirl: Now I need your help.
Lena: Anything.
Supergirl: I need help finding your mother.
Lena: My mother?
Supergirl: Your mother is behind Cadmus. She's their leader.
Lena: You're lying.
Supergirl: I'm not. She kidnapped me, and now she possesses a virus that she could wipe out the entire alien population in National City. I need you to help me find her, so that she doesn't hurt anymore innocent people.
Lena: You know, I thought you were different. You wear that symbol on your chest and everyone thinks you're good. How many times did your cousin put on that high-and-mighty costume and come after Lex? My mother is no saint, but you come in her and accuse her of being the Devil incarnate? How long before you come after me?
Supergirl: I know what it's like to be disillusioned by our parents. But I'm a pretty good judge of character. And you are not like your mother. She is cold and dangerous. And you are too good and too smart to follow in her path. Be your own hero.
Lena: You can leave the same way you came in.

Maggie: [arrives at Alex's apartment with a pizza] Hey. Hungry?
Alex: Yes. Come in, please. Ignore the pajamas.
Maggie: No, they're cute.
Alex: It's late. You got a case or something? Oh God, I could really use a good old-fashioned murder right now.
Maggie: I didn't come here for work. I just really needed to see you and talk to you.
Alex: Is everything okay?
Maggie: Umm... Well, here's the thing: I– I almost died.
Alex: Uh... Yeah, no I would not have let that happen.
Maggie: I know that, but um... It got me thinking that I– I was so stupid. I thought that, and I guess it was kinda right, that you came out for me, and that scared me. Umm.. but umm... Life is too short, and we should be who we are, and we should kiss the girls that we want to kiss. And I really just... I– I want to kiss you. [kisses Alex]

[Barry and Cisco appear through a dimensional breach in Kara's apartment.]
Cisco Ramon: This better be the right place. 'Cause if this isn't the right place, someone's about to be real confused.
[Kara comes in the front door.]
Kara: Barry!
Barry: Hey.
Kara: I knew it. I knew that was you. I knew that it was you and that weird space portal thing! [hugs Barry] Hi.
Barry: Yeah. I'm sorry. It took a couple tries to get here. This is my friend Cisco.
Cisco: Well, "friend" is a loose term. We work together. Hi. I have to say it, this is a nice universe you got here.
Kara: Thank you.
Barry: Okay, do you remember last year, when I helped you out and you promised to do the same for me?
Kara: What are we up against?

Supergirl Lives [2.9]

Snapper: In the venn diagram of things I care about, there is coffee and there is Danish. The manna from Heaven that keeps me barely, just barely, tethered to the mortal coil.

Mon-El: So we're stuck on the most dangerous planet in the galaxy, we don't have our powers, and you're optimistic how?
Kara: Because they (the kidnapped humans) need us to be.
Mon-El: See, this is what I've been telling you, Kara. You know, if you go looking for trouble, you will always find it. You do. You're, like,... you're, like, the winner at it.
Kara: 'Cause that's what heroes do. They fight. They don't sit and hide in a bar because it's easier than getting involved.
Mon-El: I am not hiding. I'm being smart. It's a dangerous universe. And why do you have to be the one who saves everyone every time?
Kara: Because our worlds may have been destroyed, but we were spared for a reason.
Mon-El: Uh, luck.
Kara: I refuse to believe that. I believe you keep fighting. Whether you're stuck on another world. whether or not you have your powers, you never give in. It's the difference between you and me.

Winn: I'm scared
Alex: You don't think I was afraid the first time I went out in the field? Dude, I was terrified. But nobody gets better by running away.

Kara: I know that you want me to follow my head. But I would rather be wrong about a dozen leads than not follow the ones I believe in. That's the kind of reporter I wanna be. I'm always going to follow my heart.
Snapper: Your therapy bills.
Kara: Have a great day, Chief.
[Kara leaves Snapper's office.]
Snapper: [smiling, sotto voce] Atta girl, Danvers.

Alex: My parents always relied on me to watch over my sister, so the few times that I ever did anything for myself, it ended badly. And then Supergirl went missing and I just blew a gasket...
Maggie: Because Supergirl's your sister.
Alex: What are you talking about?
Maggie: Come on. Look, I know you. The only person you get that torn up over is Kara. Plus the glasses don't help.
Alex: I always said that too. It's kind of ridiculous.

We Can Be Heroes [2.10]

Alex: If anyone can help her, J'onn, it's you. I know how you feel about White Martians --
Hank: Don't ask me to do this, Alex.
Alex: You have shown them mercy before --
Hank: NOT THIS!! I will not give her my people's memories! I will not give her my daughter's smiles! Her kind has taken enough from me. From us. If she dies, she dies. She deserves it a thousand times over. Let her drown in her own sins.

Kara: I... I am... I'm losing my mind right now. Livewire's just out there right now roaming the streets, and I don't know where she is or when she'll strike. I just know... she's out there somewhere and she's gonna hurt people.
James: The city's not defenseless, Kara.
Kara: I hate having a nemesis. Clark always makes it look so much fun, like... like you have a deadly pen pal you see once a year. But having a nemesis is stressful.

Kara: You are never going to be strong enough for this (being Guardian).
James: You do not get to decide who is a hero. And who are you to tell me how to be? Or who to be? I am meant for this.
Kara: If you don't stop, I'll stop you.
James: You're welcome to try.

Alex: When I needed her (M'gann) -- when you needed her -- she opened up a vein for you. I mean, she had to know that there was a chance saving you would reveal her a White Martian. She did it anyway. She said she tried to help your kind.
Hank: I suspect that's true.
Alex: Then what's the harm in the Bond? I mean, if you can see into her past, maybe you can find some good in there.
Hank: I don't want to forgive her.
Alex: Why?
Hank: Hate becomes your reason for living when you've lost everything that you love. If I find that there was some good in her kind... I don't hate her.
Alex: Forgiveness isn't something that you give to somebody who's hurt you. Forgiveness is something that you give to yourself.

[Hank and M'gann are joined in the Martian Bond.]
M'gann M'orzz: I hid who I was. I said I was a Green (Martian). I wanted....
Hank: Tell me.
M'gann: To be your friend. I couldn't bring your people back to life, but I could make you feel less alone. I'm so sorry.
Hank: I'm here with you. I see you. You are my friend. M'gann M'orzz... you are forgiven.
M'gann: J'onn...
Hank: It's time to come home

The Martian Chronicles [2.11]

Mon-El: You know, I've been talking to some of the regulars, and apparently Earth males are only supposed to express their feelings about sports and occasionally monster trucks. Who knew?

[Kara and a White Martian impersonating Alex are trading punches.]
White Martian: Well, to tell you the truth, I'm glad they found your sister. It is so exhausting pretending to care about your silly little feelings.
Kara: If you hurt her–
White Martian: You'll what? Whine at me?

Computer voice: Core stabilized.
Kara: Oh, that was a close one.
Winn: Close? We had, like, you know, 12 seconds to spare.

Hank: Thank you for saving me.
M'gann: I should be thanking you. I've been on my own for so long, and... [pause] I had a mother. She wasn't warm, that's not our way, but she cared for me, I know she did. I'd forgotten that feeling until now, what it feels like to have a family. Which is what makes this so hard. [Hank stares at her] I'm going back to Mars.
Hank: Why?
M'gann: There must be other voices like mine. White Martians that have the desire and the capacity to change, who don't want to be defined by the hatred of our kind, but just need a push. To do the right thing!
Hank: They could kill you as soon as you land.
M'gann: Maybe. But if I don't try they're never gonna stop hunting me. You know that's true. You have shown me what it is to stand up and fight, and that's exactly what I'm going to do.

M'gann: I've just had one of the hardest nights of my life, and I'm heading into something I probably won't survive, but... standing here with you, I feel like everything's going to be okay. You have changed me forever. [takes J'onn's hand and puts her head against his] Goodbye J'onn.
Hank: Goodbye... Miss Martian.

Luthors [2.12]

Winn: I am very excited to meet Alex's new mystery man.
James: Hey, do we know what he does for a living? Alex's guy?
Kara: Cop.
Winn: Yeah, no way Alex Danvers dates someone who doesn't own a firearm.
[Alex and Maggie arrive]
Alex: Hey, you guys. Hey, um, you all remember Maggie, right?
James: [after comprehending that Alex and Maggie are dating] Hey, yeah, good to see you again.
Winn: Alex! I... I didn't know. [points at Hank] Did you know?
Hank: Of course I knew. I'm psychic.
Alex: How come you never said anything before?
Hank: It's not for me to say. Good for you, Alex.

Alex: [cleaning James' wounds] You're lucky you didn't take a direct hit.
Kara: Very lucky.
James: I had my shield. I love that shield. [Kara gives him a pointed look] And I know what I'm doing, Kara.
Kara: Even if Metallo is weakening though, he's still a fanatic follower of Lillian Luthor. We have to find out where he's taking Lena and how to help her.
James: What is it gonna take for you to realize that Lena is a criminal? She's not the victim. She got the kryptonite, he broke her out of prison.
Kara: Lena is not a member of Cadmus! She's not! She stopped the game with alien weapons, she saved Alex's life when Corben tried to kill her.
James: She shot Corben and then her crazy Mom turned Corben into Metallo, so that could've been the plan the entire time.
Hank: We have to start treating Lena Luthor like a hostile. The evidence is too overwhelming.
Kara: Winn? If you watch that video, I know you'll find something.
Winn: I did, it's... it's clean.
Kara: Then find something to prove her innocent.
Hank: Everything we've seen so far says the exact opposite.
Kara: Well, she's my friend, and I believe in her. [leaves room]
James: [follows Kara out the room] I'm your friend. Which is why I don't understand why it's so hard for you to believe me. People don't remember this, Kara, but Clark and Lex Luthor used to be best friends. For years. And Clark believed in Lex for the longest time. No matter what people said. No matter what kind of proof he saw with his own eyes. No. Lex was his friend. But Clark was wrong.
Kara: Lena is not Lex.
James: But they grew up in the same house, Kara. I don't understand why you keep defending her. And you have so much faith in her, but none in me as Guardian.
Kara: That's entirely different. I am trying to protect you.
James: I do not need your protection. I need your trust. You have mine. I don't understand why it's so hard for me to get yours.

[Winn is working on the computer]
Winn: You know, the backseat driving... not helping.
Kara: Sorry. Have you found anything yet?
Winn: I promise I will tell you. Haven't you ever heard the phrase "a watched pot never..." oh, woah wait a second, I might be simmering.

Kara: I'm not one to usually gloat or say "I told you so", but... doesn't seem like I was the one with confirmation bias.
Snapper: Yesterday, she was guilty. Today, she's not. It's not confirmation bias, Danvers. It's just the news game. Since you got enough time on your hands to stand around and look up at that TV, how 'bout you get out there, get an exclusive on Lena Luthor? This time... try to spell "exclusive" right.

Lena: [putting down Kara's article about her] It's a good article. You flatter me.
Kara: I only wrote the truth. I'm learning to keep digging, even when all the evidence points one way. There's always another side.
Lena: Even when it's hard to find.
Kara: Especially when it's hard to find. [pause] So my office is overflowing with flowers...
Lena: Really?
Kara: Yeah. [both smile] You didn't have to do that.
Lena: Yeah, I did. Supergirl told me that it was you who sent her. I don't know how to thank you.
Kara: Well, that's what friends are for.
Lena: Yeah, never had friends like you before. Come to think of it, I've never had a family like you. No one's ever stood up for me like that.
Kara: Now you have someone who will stand up for you, always.
Lena: Well, Supergirl may have saved me, but Kara Danvers, you are my hero.

Mr. & Mrs. Mxyzptlk [2.13]

Hank: Agent Schott, scan the archives for anything resembling fifth dimensional incursions here on Earth.
Winn: Close encounters of the Fifth kind. You got it.

Hank: On Earth, it's customary to send messages on Valentine's Day. We had a similar custom on Mars.
Kara: Well, it's too bad you can't call her (M'gann).
Hank: We Martians are a psychic people. All our communication was through thought. But when we had something really important to say, we would often write it down. On some planets, to write something down is to truly say it.

Mon-El: Hey, pal. How's it goin'?
Winn: Oooh, you know, believe it or not, I am having a girl issue.
Mon-El: [more to himself] Good... timing.
Winn: Hey. Hey. You're great with girls. They throw themselves at you left and right.
Mon-El: Yeah, not all of them.
Winn: C'mon, hit me. I need a... a relationship pearl. C'mon.
Mon-El: Yeah, uh... things were a lot easier on Daxam when I objectified women and didn't care about anyone.
Winn: Okay. I feel you. Caring is like... the kiss of death.

Kara: See, that's the thing, Mxy. I'm not going to marry you.
Mr. Mxyzptlk: What do you mean?
Kara: I brought you to the Fortress in case you got violent again, because I didn't want anyone to get hurt when I broke the news. It's not going to work between us, ever.
Mxyzptlk: But you said... [pause] You don't love me?
Kara: Love isn't making demands of someone or forcing them to marry you. Love is putting someone else's needs above your own.

Lyra: I didn't think you'd call.
Winn: Why? Last night was, like... beyond amazing on just, just so many levels.
Lyra: I figured it was a one-time thing, for you. An experience. I've never met a human that was actually up for dating an alien.
Winn: Weeell, now you have. Look, I'm not naïve, okay? I know that there are lots of people who don't think that humans and aliens should mix. If we're being super-honest, I... potentially falling for an alien is not what scares me. It's falling for anyone. Just have kinda... had my heart trampled on a few times.
Lyra: Me, too.
Winn: Lyra, you aren't, like, some experience to me, okay? You are potentially a real, fulfilling, challenging relationship, [quickly] and that's just too much, okay? That's too fast. Woo hoo. Just gonna, um... what do you say we, um... we just take it slow?
Lyra: Sure.
Winn: [relieved] Okay.
[Lyra takes Winn's hand.]
Lyra: [whispers] Slow.... Take me to where you live.
Winn: [whispers] Yes. Ma'am.

Homecoming [2.14]

Jeremiah: So lucky you found me. I'm so lucky to be back with you two.
Mon-El: It's more than luck.
J'onn: What do you mean?
Mon-El: We got an alert that Cadmus was moving a weapon. We don't get alerts unless they're releasing a video or we catch them red-handed.
Kara: But we did catch them red-handed.
Mon-El: No, they were waving their red hands around in the air literally like they just didn't care.

Alex: Um, Dad, this is my girlfriend, Maggie.
Jeremiah: Things have changed. There's no man on Earth good enough for Alex Danvers, so it would have to be someone like you.
Maggie: Oh, flattery. And you're right, Alex does deserve the best. Here. [hands him a bottle in a brown paper bag]
Jeremiah: And you brought... [looks in the bag] tequila! Okay, she's family.

Winn: What's so top-secret you can't talk to me at the D.E.O. about?
Mon-El: It's Jeremiah's return. What if Cadmus allowed us to rescue Jeremiah so he could sabotage us? Just when this doomsday bomb is about to be detonated. I mean, think about it.
Winn: Okay, you know what? I knew I shouldn't have given you my Netflix password. Because watching that much 24 at once is not healthy.

Winn: Oh yeah, you're a terrible partner.
Mon-El: Terrible.
Winn: Yeah.
Mon-El: I'd like to not be terrible, for the record.
Winn: Look, just don't try so hard, right? Kara's a badass. She doesn't need a protector or someone to show her off, right? The girl does that all by herself.
Mon-El: So what's left for me?
Winn: Maybe ask her. Just listen to her. She's the one you're dating.

Alex: How could you? How could you?
Jeremiah: Would you believe me if I said that I did it for you?
Alex: You betrayed everyone at the D.E.O., your friends, our family, everyone that I love. And you did that for me?
Jeremiah: Family's complicated, honey.
Alex: I'm bringing you in.
Jeremiah: Not alive, you're not. If you want to bring me in, you're gonna have to shoot me. If you do it... I'll understand. You were always the best part of me.

Exodus [2.15]

Hank: We any closer to finding out where Cadmus is taking them (the kidnapped aliens)?
Mon-El: Or what they want? Because that is the trillion-dollar-question.
Winn: It's "million-dollar-question", buddy.
Mon-El: Really? That low?

Lillian: "The Overman should be the meaning of the Earth. Remain faithful to the Earth, and do not believe that those who speak to you of other worldly hopes."
Jeremiah: Nietzsche.
Lillian: Who better? His superman was about we humans believing in ourselves instead of looking up to gods. This time... [puts a hand on Jeremiah's shoulder] you're the only superman we need.

Alex: Turn it off. Now.
Lillian: [hard] You don't threaten me.
Alex: Lillian, do you really think that I would walk into the lion's den... without a whip?

Kara: You're firing me.
Snapper: Of course I am... Danvers.com. You deliberately published an article using CatCo resources on a competing social media platform, which is not only a conflict of interest, but also a direct and flagrant breach of contract.
Kara: But you refused to run the story. I thought what I was doing was right.
Snapper: What "right"? You were lucky. Next time, you might not be. One wrong statistic about the stock market, and suddenly we're in a Great Depression. One misattributed quote from a candidate, and you put a fascist in the White House. The rules are there for a reason: to make sure you get the story right. That's not luck. That's being a good reporter. Y'know, the worst part is... I was rootin' for you.

Kara: I don't want another job. Reporting is my calling, I help people.
Mon-El: Yeah, you know who else does?
Kara: Who?
Mon-El: Supergirl.
Kara: It's just that... when I write, I don't need a yellow sun, it's just me. Supergirl is what I can do, Kara is who I am.

Star-Crossed [2.16]

Lyra: You should have run when you had the chance.
Winn: I was a theater geek, not a track star.

Mon-El: Hey, hey, I've been doing some very serious research on human relationships, and by now in the movie, the girl usually forgives the guy for whatever dumb thing he's done.
Kara: I had a nice chat with your mother.
Mon-El: Yeah, okay. What'd she want?
Kara: You. She wants to talk to you.
Mon-El: I'm not going back there.
Kara: Well, I tried.
Mon-El: What, that's it?
Kara: What else am I supposed to say? Nothing's changed for me.
Mon-El: Just tell me what to do, okay? Tell me what it is and I will fix it.
Kara: You can't! Okay? You can't take back the fact that you lied to me, you can't unring that bell.
Mon-El: Well, I can try.
Kara: Just forget about you and me for one second. Do you even understand the second chance you've been given? You thought you were the last Daxamite and you're not. Your people are alive. Your parents are alive. They need you. They love you. Don't just throw that chance away, because many of us don't get one. Now, you're a prince, so start acting like it.

Winn: You're a good egg, Sawyer. [puts his hand on Maggie's shoulder]
Maggie: Leave before I throw you into holding for fun.
Winn: I have better places to go. [leaves]
Maggie: Think I scared him?
Alex: Almost as good as I do.

Kara: You just want things to be easy, Mon-El, but being a hero and falling in love, those are not easy things. They're hard, and they're messy, and they hurt sometimes.
Mon-El: I would never hurt you on purpose, Kara.
Kara: And you won't again.
Mon-El: Kara, don't.
Kara: I can't, I can't do this. No, it's over.

Winn: I just gotta say that I'm pretty sure that this Cisco fellow and I would just be BFFs if, you know, we lived in the same dimension.
Kara: Yeah, don't tempt me. 'Cause I could use an... Inter-dimensional post-break-up vacay.

Distant Sun [2.17]

Kara: What smells so... [gasps] Is that hash browns?
Mon-El: No no no no no no no. I'm trying to make you breakfast in bed. I'm going for full romance here, and you have ruined it.
Kara: Honey, listen, very sweet, but there's no way you're getting in the way of me and... BACON! And biscuits. And oh, is that a poached egg?
Mon-El: Yeah.
Kara: How'd you learn how to poach?
Mon-El: Oh, I found the instructions. [holds up a copy of "The Joy of Cooking"] Turns out books have a lot more useful information than YouTube.
Kara: Hey!
Mon-El: Who knew?

Mon-El: Hey, I've been thinking about a solution to our problem.
Kara: Yeah, me too.
Mon-El: Yeah?
Kara: There's only one thing we can do:
Mon-El: [together with Kara] Run for our lives.
Kara: [together with Mon-El] Talk to your mother. Wait, what?
Mon-El: What? There's this... So there's this planet that a Durlan emissary took me to when I was a kid. It's got water, and a yellow sun. It's got everything we need to survive. My parents wouldn't find us there. We'd be together, we'd be safe. I think of this 'cause I'm reading this play right now, um... "Ro-mayo and Juliet".
Kara: Yep, I've heard of it.
Mon-El: Right. And... and there's this moment at the end where I am right now where they're about to run away together and live happily ever after, and I can't help but think that that could be us, you know.
Kara: Yeah, but Juliet and Romeo both die at the end.
Mon-El: I... did not see that coming.
Kara: And no, we are not going to your secret planet. I'm Supergirl. I don't run from anything.
Mon-El: Yeah, I know. That's one of the more annoying things about you.

Alex: I've thought a lot about this. You have a pattern of keeping things to yourself. You hid the truth about Emily, you made her seem like the bad guy. And then before that, you didn't tell me what really happened when you came out to your parents, how badly they reacted. You don't like to talk about you.
Maggie: I know.
Alex: So I think that when your parents didn't accept you, you stopped trusting people that are closest to you. I totally get that. But Maggie... you don't have to be guarded with me. Okay? I'm not here to judge you for things that happened in the past. I am here to help you heal.
Maggie: You don't think I'm a bad person?
Alex: No. Actually, I always thought that you were perfect [embraces Maggie], but it's really nice to see that you have problems, too.
Maggie: Thank you.

Lar Gand: I want you to know that Kara Zor-El will be safe. And in time, you will see that coming home was the right thing to do.
Mon-El: I already know it was right. If I didn't come back, Mother would have killed the woman I love.
Lar Gand: You know your life will always be Rhea's responsibility, but son, you belong with your people. It means so much to them to have you back.
Mon-El: If this is about the people, then some things have to change. One day, I will become king. And I want to be a different kind of king. And, why not start now? Why not rebuild our kingdom better than it was, and make justice available for everyone. Get rid of rank and make it so that everyone's voice is heard equally.
Lar Gand: [laughing slightly] This is absurd.
Mon-El: Why? Why is that so absurd? We have a chance to start again, Father. So why should we go and just recreate the same broken system as before?
Lar Gand: Because it's what the people need. You think we survived the destruction of our world by giving everyone a say? Our royal house stood for 8000 years because the people need our order. And our leadership.
Mon-El: Our house would've fallen. So rebuild with me, Father, please.

[Winn appears on the Daxamite ship through a portal]
Mon-El: Winn?
Winn: Ok, thank God I am not in space.
Mon-El: You are in space.
Winn: Oh, yeah, I know. I mean, like, floating around in space dying. Uh, I'm here to rescue you. Hi.
Mon-El: Aren't you a little short for a stormtrooper?
Winn: You finally saw Star Wars!

Ace Reporter [2.18]

Kara: Whoo! It is another beautiful day in National City, and the Girl of Steel is ready to take on the world. I am here to kick some ass, take some names, and do it all with an endearing smile on my face. So... bring it on. What have you got for me?
Hank: There's literally nothing for you to do.
Kara: Nothing?
Winn: I challenge you to find an eight-year-old stealing candy.
Alex: It's like somebody slipped "Law-abiding serum" into the reservoir.
Kara: Did somebody do that? Is that illegal? I could stop 'em.

Kara: I heard Supergirl saved you.
Snapper: Yeah, she was there.
Kara: Did you say "Thank you"?
Snapper: Once, to a divorce lawyer. It was uncomfortable for everyone involved.
[Kara puts a file on Snapper's desk.]
Snapper: What's this? More alternative "facts"?
Kara: It's all my research on Spherical. I thought I'd help your story.
Snapper: [considers] What's in it for you, Ponytail?
Kara: I know we've had our differences... but I've learned a lot from you. And the biggest thing I've learned is that, it's not the reporter that matters, it's the truth that matters. And CATCO will get the truth to more people. Also, I wanted to get the truth out so badly that I disobeyed you. I broke the rules. You were right. I was lucky when I posted my first blog on Cadmus without your permission. I let you down. And I apologize.
Snapper: .... Finally.

Beth Breen: You know it's true what they say. Behind every great man is a strong woman.
Lena: Oh, I wouldn't know. I've never stood behind a man.
Beth: You just clean up after your brother.
....
Beth: [kicks Lena] Did I mention that I'm a Black belt?
Lena: [punches Beth in the face] Did I mention I was a Luthor?

Kara: How you holding up?
Lena: When Lex was arrested, my mother was there. My mother saw her son dragged, bleeding and raving, from her house, and when I got there, Lillian was tidying his room like he'd been away on a business trip. That's how I feel: cold and calm. Until I think about Beth dying in jail, and then I feel warm for a minute.
Kara: You're in shock, Lena.
Lena: I know. Loss does strange things to my family, and I've lost a lot of people.
Kara: Well, you're not gonna lose me.
Lena: I think when I feel things again, I'm... I'm gonna be very, very afraid. About the person I might be.
Kara: [putting an arm around Lena] You don't have to be afraid. I'm right here. And I'm not going anywhere.
Lena: Heh. Promise?
Kara: I will always be your friend. And I will always protect you. I promise.

Kara: Yeah, I'll get out of here.
Snapper: Oh, so now that you share a byline with me, you're too good to work late?
Kara: But I thought...
Snapper: I just said that you did a good job, Danvers. You didn't give up, even when that whistle blower got killed. You weren't afraid to pursue the truth, no matter what the risk. And we need more reporters like that. More reporters like you, that care about the truth.
Kara: So I have my job back?
Snapper: Unless you're thinking of starting a food truck . [takes a bite of Kara's Danish] Don't start a food truck.

Alex [2.19]

Kara: You're not upset that I caught the bad guys and got everyone out safely, are you?
Maggie: I would have gotten them to free the hostages.
Kara: Maybe. But they're in jail now where they can't hurt anyone, and that's all that matters.
Maggie: As long as they don't use the "Supergirl defense".
Kara: The what?
Maggie: It's a thing some criminals use to get their charges dropped. It's a perfect storm for a defense attorney. Excessive force. Evidence contaminated by debris. Vigilante justice.
Kara: "Vigilante justice"? I stand for help, I help, and compassion. I did what I had to do to get those people out of there.
Alex: I think what Maggie's trying to say is that what you do is amazing when we're up against--
Maggie: A giant purple monster or a half-cyborg murderer, sure. But most of the time, police work requires a more... delicate touch.
Kara: "Delicate".
Maggie: Yeah. You broke a guy's arm and gave another a concussion. And that was after you knocked in the roof of a National City landmark. And now, it just has a big Supergirl-sized hole in it.

Rick Malvern: It's simple. She's (Alex) told you she's okay. And now we trade my father for Alex.
Kara: Your father is a murderer.
Rick: Manslaughter-er.
Kara: [frustrated] Tell me where she is.
Rick: Tick tock. Tick tock.
[Kara's eyes glow, but she does not use her heat vision. Rick walks right up to her and looks into her eyes.]
Rick: Oh, wow. That's even cooler up close. You hurt me, you'll never find her. And she'll die. Slowly. [Kara powers down.]

Kara: Do you know what kind of words your son's been using? Words like "rescue" and "love". Says he wants to rescue you like you rescued him. But if he kills Alex Danvers, he'll never be rescued. He'll have to live with that for the rest of his life, and that'll be his Hell. Now you've done a lot of bad things in your life, but you've done one thing you can be proud of. You were a father. A good one. You were there for your son during the toughest time of his life, and that's what you need to do again now. If he kills her... you will have failed at the one good thing you've done with your life. Be a father now.

Alex: I knew I just had to buy a couple of seconds, and then you were coming. [pause] You didn't let me finish before, but I... just really have to say it now. [sits up in bed]
Maggie: Careful.
Alex: It's okay, it's okay. Those firsts that you talked about? [Maggie nods] I want to have them all with you. I never want to stop having firsts with you. I love you, Maggie Sawyer.
Maggie: I love you, Alex Danvers.
Alex: Yeah?
Maggie: Yeah.
[Alex and Maggie kiss]

Rick: [disappointed] Oh. You survived.
Winn: Oh, you do NOT get to talk to her!
Alex: What are you gonna do to him?
Hank: My job. Protect the identity of Supergirl and the D.E.O.
Alex: You gonna mindwipe him?
Hank: You object?
Alex: No. Just... before you do that–
[Alex turns and punches Rick hard in the nose, to everyone else's pleasure.]
Alex: Just make sure he remembers that.
Hank: Will do.
[Winn high-fives Alex as Mon-El chuckles]

City of Lost Children [2.20]

Kara: Okay, I... I love him. I do. I "love" him. But... c'mon. JT has got to be the only one holding up the reunion right now.
Lena: Oh, obviously. Here, but let me ask you this, right? Would you rather have an NSYNC reunion... or JT and Britney back together?
Kara: Oooohh! [stabs her chest metaphorically] My OTP. That's an impossible question to answer, and you're cruel for asking.
Lena: Yeah, well, you know, sometimes my Luthor genes just shine though. [Both of them laugh.]

Lena: [getting emotional] You know, I... just thought if I could make this work, I would prove to the world and... to my mother that I was as good as the Golden Boy. I think most of all, I just wanted to prove it to myself.
Rhea: You don't have to prove anything. You're smarter than Lex. [Lena demurs] No, I'm not saying that to make you feel better. I'm saying it as a scientist. As someone who knows. But you need to stop trying to think like your brother. From what you've told me about Lex, he's a man who's concerned with power. And that's how you've been trying to fix this. Give it more power, you think it will work.
Lena: Yeah, and it just keeps blowing.
Rhea: But you're not a person who's consumed with power, are you? So if you weren't trying to do what Lex would do,... what would you do?
Lena: [considering] I'd... try to find a way to increase the anion input without overloading the energy output, all while maintaining the element's synthesis rate as a constant.
Rhea: Not power. Balance.

Kara: Did you rip the seat off the toilet in my loft again, and now you're just bringing Chinese food so you don't get in trouble?
Mon-El: That was once. That was one time. Okay? And in my defense, you can be pretty scary when it comes to enforcing bathroom etiquette.

Rhea: Everything I do, I do for my people. Everything that you do for yours is to bolster your broken ego. You need this planet to worship you, the last daughter of a failed world. Because otherwise, your survival means nothing.
Kara: You're delusional.
Rhea: Ha. No, on the contrary. I see everything clearly. I came here in peace, which you refused. And all of the ugliness that's transpired is because of your righteousness, Kara Zor-El. Everything that happens from now on is your doing. Every city that burns, every nation that falls. For every child of Earth that cries out "Why is this happening?", the answer... is "Supergirl".

James: When I was a kid, I used to get bullied. See, I went to a school where there weren't a lot of people who looked like me. And then when my Dad died... it just got a lot worse. See, he was... he was my guardian. That he was the guy that made me feel safe. So after he was gone, I just... I put up this wall, and I didn't let anybody in. Until I moved to Metropolis. And then I made a new friend. And this guy was different, too. I didn't realize how different he was. I just knew that he understood something that most people didn't. And because of that, I trusted him. And eventually, I let him in. Do you know what happened?.... The wall came down. You see, Marcus, sometimes you can meet somebody and they can become your friend. And by trusting them, everything in your life can change.

Resist [2.21]

President Olivia Marsdin: Stand down!
Rhea: "Stand down"? I think you are confusing this situation with one in which you have any sort of negotiating leverage.
Marsdin: This is not a negotiation! This is a demand!
Rhea: [hard] You speak like that to me again, and you will feel the consequences.
Cat Grant: [entering Olivia's office] Oh my God! Enough. All right. Ladies, ladies. If I wanted to see this adolescent macho posturing, I would have stayed in D.C.
Kara: Miss Grant?!
Cat: [to Olivia] Is this really who you want to be? [to both] Testosterone-driven windbags boasting about your big guns? Surely, we don't need to measure anything. We're wo-men. We're tough, we're wise, and we're way above this pettiness, so let's just.. roll up our sleeves and talk peace.
Rhea: I'm sorry. Who are you?
Cat: I'm. Cat. Grant. Known on Earth as "Queen of All Media".
Rhea: [amused] Oh. Well, Cat Grant, I'm Rhea. And Earth now has a new queen.
Cat: Oh. Oh, well, let me give you just a little bit of friendly advice, Rhea. That tiara that you have on the top of your head. It's overkill. Real royals, they don't need to try that hard. The thing is, that I have brokered peace between Kanye and Taylor Swift, so I think mediating peace between our two worlds should be a piece of cake. And... "The Future is Female", we've all read the T-shirts. So we are three strong, formidable women, and we can do anything we want. So let's just talk it out and come up with a harmonious solution, shall we?

Cat: Do you want to know the real reason why I left National City? I wasn't... happy. So I asked Siri "Where is the happiest place on Earth, Siri?", and she answered "Bhutan", so I booked my passage to the Himalayas and moved into a yurt. Now, do you have any idea what is in a yurt? Nothing. Nothing. Not even central air conditioning. But these people, they are happy. A child learns how to walk, they sing. A group of people come down from a hike, from the mountains, and they dance. A couple, they go on their first date and they throw a damn festival. And all of a sudden, the secret to happiness just dawned on me. It's human connection. And I could conquer the world at CatCo or I could twiddle my thumbs in the yurt, and the loneliness would feel exactly the same, because I was missing... the point. It's not about what you do. It's about who you love. And there are two people that you love trapped in an evil spaceship. Wanting to rescue them is not selfish. It's everything.
Kara: Yeah. Yeah. [pause] I've really missed your advice, Miss Grant.
Cat: And I've really missed giving it. Now shoo. Up, up and away, no time to lose.

Alex: Hey. What you said before, about Maggie, if I... if she was on that ship? You were right. I would do anything I could to save her. [getting more emotional] So, you better hurry.
Kara: I will.
Alex: If you are on board when I fire, you will not survive that.
Kara: I know.
Alex: [hugs Kara close] Okay, so please... just be faster than me, okay? I know... I know you're fast, but just be faster.
Kara: Faster than a speeding bullet.

Cat: Good evening, National City. It's Cat Grant. Yes, I've been away for a while, but I'm back. Now I can imagine that you are feeling afraid and feeling like your world is spinning out of control, but believe me: you have a power, and right now you have a job to do. Resist! Resist these invaders with everything you've got! They come with empty promises and closed fists. They promise to make our world great again. And yet they know nothing about the people that make this world great. They think they can con us, and if that doesn't work, what? They're gonna beat us into submission? They have no idea who they're up against. Aliens and humans, we need to band together, and we need to stand together and fight back. Everyone needs to be a superhero, everyone needs to get up and say "not in my house". Let's prove to these thugs that we are strong, and we're united, and we are not going to be conquered. And "tiara woman", if you and your little minions happen to be listening, you have come to the wrong town. Yeah, I'm Cat Grant, not going anywhere.
Winn: Classic!
[Up on the Daxamite mothership]
Rhea: [to a guard] Send a squadron to the planet's surface and kill that woman!

Kara: It's over, Rhea. Came back to give you one last chance to do the right thing.
Rhea: How generous of you.
Kara: When I was a child, I could look up into the skies and see Daxam in the stars. I was told so many times how terrible a place it was. But I couldn't understand that. Because they had families. Like us. People they loved. In a few minutes, this ship will be destroyed. And everyone on it. You don't want that. Save your people while you still have time.
Rhea: Touching speech, Supergirl. Sadly, wasted on the wrong audience. When my own husband opposed me, I killed him. You really think you can tug at my heartstrings?

Nevertheless, She Persisted [2.22]

[Kara wakes up in bed next to Mon-El.]
Kara: Let's just stay here a little while longer, okay?
Mon-El: How long?
Kara: Til tomorrow.
Mon-El: [laughs] Okay, we'll get up tomorrow. [fingers Kara's pendant] Hey, you always wear this. It's beautiful.
Kara: Yeah, it was my mother's.
Mon-El: Really?
Kara: Yeah. She gave it to me the day I left Krypton. I'd just watched little Kal-El launch into space. Her world was falling apart around her, and even in he middle of that. she looked at me and smiled and said as long as I had this, I'd never be alone. She'd be with me in my dreams. I know we can't stay all day, but let's just stay a little while longer, please.
Mon-El: But Kara, you're not here.
Kara: [sleepily] What?
Mon-El: You're in the Fortress.
[Kara's eyes snap open. Suddenly, Supergirl wakes up to find herself in the Fortress of Solitude.]

[Kara and Superman arrive at the D.E.O. Mon-El sees Kara and hugs her tight.]
Mon-El: You okay?
Kara: I'm so much better now.
[Winn approaches Superman, bumping into Alex along the way, and shakes Superman's hand.]
Winn: [stammering, ] Hey, hi. I'm sure you probably don't remember me--
Superman: Winn Schott? Resident genius of the D.E.O.? Good to see you, buddy. [claps Winn's shoulder]
Winn: [awestruck] Good.
Superman: Good. [to Mon-El] And you're the guy who's dating my cousin.
Mon-El: Yes, sir. Mon-El of Daxam. [quickly] Though not... not like the... you know, the others from Daxam. The killing ones.
Superman: You must be a good guy. Or she wouldn't be with you. [shakes Mon-El's hand]

Kara: I feel like I'm on the brink of having everything I've ever wanted. Family, friends, a job I love. A life as a hero I never could've imagined. And Mon-El. If I beat Rhea, I get to keep all of that. I don't know. I don't know if it's possible. I don't know if it's possible to have everything you want.
Superman: Well, it is. But only because you worked for it. Whenever I fight, no matter who it's against, where it is, I'm always fighting for Lois. I fight with her right here. [touches his chest] The people we love, they're, uh... they're another secret superpower. Keep 'em with you.

[Mon-el prepares to leave the lead-poisoned Earth.]
Mon-El: There's something I need to say. Wherever I go, I'm gonna be better because of you. You'll be in my heart. I promise I'm gonna be the man that you thought I could be. I promise.
Kara: You made me so happy. Here. Take this. [gives him her pendant] This will keep you safe. [They kiss.] I love you. [emotional] I should've said it before.
Mon-El: I love you.

Cat: See, the thing that makes women strong is that we have the guts to be vulnerable. We have the ability to feel the depths of our emotion, and we know that we will walk though it to the other side. And, by the way, you have accomplished great things this year. Your articles. Slaver's Moon. Alien Registry. Alien Fight Club. It's all very powerful. And your prose. Your prose is not bad. I mean, it's not great, but it's not bad.
Kara: You read them?
Cat: I did. I did "2017". They have Wi-Fi in the Himalayan mountains. But you, my dear, are on a Hero's journey. Like Joseph Campbell would say. And yes, you have hit a bit of an obstacle, but you will soar right over it, just like I would. Except, of course, you won't be wearing Louboutin's.
[Kara sees a news report on a fire in the city]
Kara: Um...actually...um there's something I forgot I had to do. I have to go.
[Kara gets up to leave]
Cat: By all means.
Kara: Thank you.
[Kara walks out]
Cat: Go get 'em, Supergirl.

Season 3

Opening voiceover
My name is Kara Zor-El. I'm from Krypton. I'm a refugee on this planet. I was sent to Earth to protect my cousin. But my pod got knocked off-course, and by the time I got here, my cousin had already grown up and become...

Girl of Steel [3.1]

Winn: I mean, I thought it was bad when she skipped Pizza Night, but skipping free apps? I mean, come on, these are, like, the beginning of the dark days.
Hank: Hey, come on, grief doesn't have a deadline.
Winn: Hey, look, I know, but she goes from being Little Miss Sunshine to... well, Alex, basically.
Alex: What? I'm not like that.
Hank: Come on, Alex, your unrelenting seriousness is one of your best qualities.
[Hank walks off, followed by Winn.]
Alex: [calling after them] I'm not like that. I'm NOT!!

Morgan Edge: Lena? Twice in my office in as many days. People are gonna start talking.
Lena: Morgan, you have all the charisma of a Michael Douglas movie from the '90s.
Edge: You didn't come all this way just to flatter me, did you?

Alex: Who are you right now? Kara Danvers doesn't quit.
Kara: She quits the things that aren't important.
Alex: CATCO is important. You help people there.
Kara: Not like Supergirl does.
Alex: Kara Danvers --
Kara: Kara Danvers SUCKS right now! Supergirl is great! Supergirl saved the world. So, if I could choose to be her, why would I ever choose to be the sad girl whose boyfriend is gone? I don't like that girl, Alex.
Alex: Look, I know it hurts.
Kara: No, no, you don't know anything. You've never had to make a decision like this.
Alex: Okay, so tell me what it feels like. Please. Just let me help, let me help you get over him.
Kara: "Get over him"?! He didn't dump me. I sent him away, and for all I know he's...
Alex: What?
Kara: Doesn't matter.
Alex: You're not letting yourself feel anything. You're just bottling it up inside and you're making bad decisions. And I'm worried...
Kara: If it was Maggie, what would you be doing? If the woman you are about to marry was gone forever, what would you be doing?
Alex: I...
Kara: You'd be the bar every night. You'd be a wreck at work. You'd be broken.
Alex: I would. I would be, and it's okay if you are.
Kara: I'm not. That's what humans do, and I'm better than that. Clark said it himself. The decision I made, he couldn't've made that sacrifice. But me? I couldn't've lived with myself if I hadn't. I will always make the decision I made. I am not a human. I tried to be, but I'm not. Kara Danvers was a mistake. So, if you have an update about work I'd love to hear it. Otherwise...
Alex: Bloodsport has the capability to cloak a nuke. We're thinking that he's gonna hit the statue unveiling at the waterfront. J'onn wants everyone there.
Kara: I'll be there.
Alex: Yeah. [starts to leave but turns around at the door] Kara Danvers is my favorite person! She saved me more times than Supergirl ever could, so just think about that while you're trying to get rid of her!

Hank: It's quiet up here. You know, I rarely flew on Mars. It was for battle, not pleasure. When I first came to Earth, I spent hours up in the sky. It was the only place I could feel.. empty.
Kara: Well, that's not what I'm doing up here.
Hank: Forgive me for saying, but you seem to be courting emptiness of late, and that's not you.
Kara: I tried to be Kara Danvers for fifteen years, but I'm not supposed to be her. I'm not supposed to be human.
Hank: But you have a human heart now. It aches, it scars, but it keeps on beating. If you try and cut it out, you will lose something essential.
Kara: I can't help people if I'm broken.
Hank: You are not broken! You're the strongest person I know! You saved me, remember? You told me that my loss made me stronger. That was Kara Danvers, not Supergirl.

Maggie: Danvers, you on comms? Got something that needs your attention.
Alex: I'm here, East side. You?
Maggie: West, all clear. About last night...
Alex: Uh, this is neither the time or the place to talk about what I think you want to talk about.
Maggie: Do you not want to marry me?
Alex: Of course I do! Look, I want to be your wife! I want to have a dog, I want to have a house, all of it. I just, I just don't want a big wedding.
Maggie: Why? [pause] Talk to me. Please, you have to tell me what's going on.
Alex: Because my dad won't be there. He can't come, he can't walk me down the aisle.
Maggie: You could've told me that.
Alex: I didn't want to make a big deal out of it. I... you're already dealing with family issues that I can't imagine. So, I just hoped that I... let it go.
Maggie: Look, I've had more practice at choosing my family because I had to. And I think you have to take a deep breath and find your way out of this. There's so many people that love you. Just think about how they can make our day good, and tell me how I can help.
Alex: Okay, I can do that.
Maggie: Okay. I love you.
Alex: You too. Forever.
Winn: You two are my favorite couple.
Alex and Maggie: Winn! Get off the comms!

Triggers [3.2]

[Hank is trying to settle a dispute between Alex and Maggie: Band or D.J. at their wedding.]
Hank: The human mind reacts to music very much like other stimuli. Tastes, smells. A song doesn't sound exactly the way you're used to hearing it, you enjoy it less. And are, therefore, less likely to get jiggy on the dance floor. I say D.J.
Alex: Oh, yes!
Maggie: Come on.
Winn: Did he just say "jiggy"?

Lena: I thought you'd be too busy to act as my chaperone.
James: I don't want to chaperone you. I don't consider myself a chaperone, I consider myself the person who's been running this company for a year.
Lena: All right, Mr. Olsen. I have a meeting with the advertising department in 20 minutes. I'll see you there.
James: See you in 19.
Lena: Twenty will be fine.

Kara: Got you cornered.
Psi: Do you?
Kara: What did you do to them up there?
Psi: Only wanted to play. But they didn't want to play with me.
Kara: Well, you're not getting away with it.
Psi: Oh. You think you're the cat, and I'm the bird. You got it backwards. You could join me. Maybe then you'd be happy. See, money equals happiness. More money, more happiness.
Kara: Your priorities are seriously outta whack.
Psi: I know. Right. [laughs]

[Kara has taken Winn aside.]
Winn: Ooo, this is very covert ops. What's up?
Kara: I... I know how she's doing it. I felt it this time. She's targeting people's fear.
Winn: How - how do you know that?
Kara: I saw my mother. I saw... Krypton explode. I relived my last moments there. And then being stuck floating through space for so long. Knowing I could never have my life back. [getting nervous] Psi put me back in that pod. Completely trapped and alone. It was... it was so quiet. [gets more nervous]] Silence was the worst part.... I felt completely cut off from everything and everyone I've ever known.... [composes herself] We... we have to stop her, Winn.

Kara: You're not going anywhere.
Psi: Hm. What did you see, I wonder? What brought the Girl of Steel to her knees?
[Psi sends a psychic blast at Kara, who is barely affected.]
Kara: A lie. [advances on Psi]
Psi: Fear is not a lie. [sends another blast to no effect and advances on Kara] Fear cripples. Annihilates spirits. It is the only weapon that matters. [sends another ineffective blast] Fear made me stronger than you.
[Psi and Kara are now face-to-face. Psi sends yet another psychic blast, but Kara remains standing.]
Psi: No one is safe from it. [confused] Why aren't you scared anymore?
Kara: Mind over matter.
[Kara head-butts Psi unconscious.]

Far from the Tree [3.3]

Alex: I don't know why throwing a lesbian wedding shower would curb Mom's cheesy antics.
Kara: Nope. Gay, straight, whatever, Eliza will not be stopped until she digs up every bridal shower game since the beginning of time. [Alex picks up a napkin from a stack and shows Kara. On it is printed "Alex & Maggie's Shower".] You know what, you're gonna love "Bridal Bingo".
Alex: Kill me now. Please.

Maggie: I told a girl at school that I liked her, and my parents found out. I came home that day... it was winter... and my dad was there with a suitcase. And he told me to get into the car... and, um... we drove in silence. And I just stared out the window, looking at the icicles on the trees. And I was terrified to say anything, but... finally, I said, um... I said "Papí, what did I do?" And then he just looked at me with such contempt and said, um... "You shamed me." And then he pulled up to my aunt's house and left me with my suitcase. That was the last thing that my father said to me.
Eliza: The only thing shameful about that story is how your father treated you, Maggie.
Alex: [whispering] Yeah. [hugs Maggie]

[Maggie's father, Oscar, walked out of the bridal shower when Maggie and Alex kiss]
Maggie: You're just gonna walk out? After all this time, that's it?
Oscar Rodas: I can't do this.
Maggie: Can't do what? Tell me, please. What exactly have I done that is so offensive to you?
Oscar: You spit in my face.
Maggie: I spit in your face? For loving somebody? I don't understand. I don't get it.
Oscar: I came to this country at nine years old. At eleven, I was working in a factory.
Maggie: Yes, I know.
Oscar: Do you?
Maggie: Yeah.
Oscar: Do you know I was the only Mexicano working alongside a bunch of white boys? Do you know that they would wait for me at night by the road and laugh and call me "wetback" and kick me until my ribs were broken?
Maggie: What does this have to do–
Oscar: With you being a lesbian? I worked to win their respect. Those same boys, when they grew up, elected me their sheriff. I endured for my children. So that you would never have to face that kind of hatred! So that you would belong!
Maggie: I'm accepted for who I am. The world is different now.
Oscar: Huh! They're building a wall to keep us out! Because in their minds, we're nothing but rapists and murderers! The only thing they hate more than a Mexicano, is a homosexual. The world is not different, my dear. Look, you can live any way you please. But don't ask me to witness it.

[Kara drives up to the White Martians' ceremony in J'onn's '50's convertible.]
Kara: Hi. Hi. I'm, uh... I'm sorry to bother you during, um... whatever it is you're doing, but I think I took a wrong turn at Albuquerque. Can any of you give me directions back to Earth? [gets out of the car nonchalantly while the White Martians roar] You know, I thought I took that tunnel, but my GPS is all screwed up down here, and it keeps trying to get me to make the suicidal left turn.

[Maggie meets her father at the bus stop as he is about to leave.]
Maggie: I came to give you that back. [returns the picture of her as a little girl to him] That little girl... so desperate to win her father's love. You left her on the side of the road. And all these years, I've been that little girl. Yearning for my papá to come back for me. Praying that one day, he would see me and love me for who I am. Thank you for coming to the shower. You gave me an amazing gift. You showed me that I'm not that scared little girl in that picture anymore. I am an adult woman , and I am happy in my own skin, and I'm so fortunate that I'm surrounded by people who value and cherish me. I finally understand. I don't need you to see me or to get me or to even like me. I don't need anything from you. I'm already good.... Goodbye, Papá. [walks away]

The Faithful [3.4]

Olivia: [addressing the worshippers of Supergirl] Hello. Uh, it was, um... it was Spring break when I caught my boyfriend cheating on me with my best friend. And I took it hard. Snuck into a rooftop party, and I got totally wasted, and I stood on the ledge as a joke. And then the next thing I knew,... I was falling. And as I fell, I thought "I hope that if this is it, that it's quick." But it wasn't quick. And that fall lasted an eternity. And then she caught me. And she told me that everything is gonna be okay. Because of Supergirl, I realize I still deserve to be loved. Supergirl saved me. [The congregation applauds.]
James: [whispers to Kara] Do you remember saving her?
Kara: [looks at all the people, nearly overwhelmed] I... I remember all of them.

Kara: I... I think it's admirable that you want to help people. I mean, logically, Supergirl can't save everyone. There's only one of her.
Thomas Coville: [looking right at Kara] Is this a test?
Kara: Excuse me?
Coville: [joyful] Did you come here to test my faith?... Supergirl?
Kara: I'm not... I'm not... [scoffs]
Coville: I looked into your eyes from my seat on that plane. When you look into the eyes of God, you do not forget.
[A shaken Kara turns and starts to leave.]
Coville: [calling her back] Wait, don't... Don't worry. Your secret is safe with me. As Rao says, "Let my god walk amongst you and shelter her."
Kara: I am not God. Rao is.
Coville: Rao says that even his gods can lose their way. If you're lost,... I can help you. [gets an artifact from behind the lectern]
Kara: Where did you get that?
Coville: I found every artifact of Krypton that there was to find. This contains Rao's words. This can remind you of what Rao says.
Kara: [snatches the artifact] I know what Rao says. You are perverting it. [takes off her glasses and looks straight into Coville's eyes] You're going to stop having these meetings. You are going to stop telling people to put themselves in danger. If I am a god, you need to do as I say. You need to trust me.
Coville: I trust you.

Lena: What's the matter?
Samantha Arias: I'm just screwing up... not with work. With Ruby. All she wanted to do was to practice her song with me, and I kept saying "Oh, later" and "Later", and look at her. I just feel like the worst mother. [Lena smiles.].... Why are you smiling?
Lena: Because I actually had the worst mother. Objectively speaking. So I find your self-pity a little funny.
Samantha: I mean, my kid fell asleep on my couch in the office. It's not great.
Lena: She fell asleep watching her mom work hard. She may not understand the ins and outs, but she knows it's important and you're the only one who can fix it. That is how you raise a girl to be a badass.
Samantha: Yeah. She already is a badass.
Lena: Yeah, 'cause she's loved. She knows it.

James: You know how I met Superman?
Kara: At the Daily Planet.
James: That was your cousin Clark. So one day, I climbed up this bridge spire to get this angle on this tanker fire, and it was beautiful. It was great. There was a lot of smoke in the air. I got light-headed, and I lost my footing. And I fell. And I knew for sure that I was gonna die. So I just prayed. I prayed to anything, to anyone who was listening... to save me. And then out of the smoke came this hand that grasped mine. And that was the first time Superman saved me. Same way you did Coville.
Kara: My biology absorbs solar radiation at a different rate than humans. What about that is miraculous?
James: In this life, prayer normally doesn't work. Nobody shows up. But Clark did. And you do. Kara, you're something that we can see, something that we can touch. How are you not a miracle?

[Kara visits Coville at the prison.]
Kara: Are they treating you well?
Coville: Oh, yes. Thank you.
Kara: I have to ask.... Are you going to tell anyone who I am?
Coville: Mmm. I know you gave me a name at the rec center. But honestly, I can't even remember it. That's not who you are.
Kara: You don't know who I am at all.
Coville: Oh, I know that even gods can lose their way. When I looked into your eyes that night on the plane, you were clear and free. Now your eyes are clouded with doubt, loss. You're at a crossroads. And I finally understand Rao's will for me: to help you on your journey. To bring you back to clarity of purpose. Back to balance, back to... peace. This isn't my prison. This is my salvation. And so I will continue to pray to you. But, I will also pray for you.

Damage [3.5]

Maggie: I don't want to feel like this. [walks towards Alex] I love you.
Alex: [moving away from Maggie] Yeah, I love you back.
Maggie: This can't be it. This is stupid. This is...
Alex: We're talked this through. Right? I mean, for days. I mean, can you do that again? Can you go another couple rounds? Because I can't. Are you ever gonna want to have kids?
Maggie: .... I want you!
Alex: Yeah, I know, babe. But I want kids. [Maggie nods] I'm always gonna want kids.
Maggie: Then there's nothing else left. You have to say it.
Alex: Maggie,...
Maggie: You have to say it out loud. Please?
Alex: .... We can't be together.

Lena: So this is what your revenge looks like.
Edge: Have you ever heard of the Cobra effect, Lena? Colonial India, the British government. They realized there were snakes all over Delhi, and they wanted them gone. So they offered a bounty for dead snakes. And then they realized that people were breeding snakes for income. They thought everything was going really well, they realized they got slithering snakes all over Delhi. The whole thing backfired. Turns out they made the problem worse. You understand?
Lena: You're a toxic predator.
Edge: Unintended consequences. You wanted to be a hero so bad, you didn't care who you hurt. And now people are gonna die.

Maggie: Are you sure you want to give up on this? Sure you want to do this, give up on something tangible and real? Some... us, it's us. For some notion of being a mom?
Alex: It's not some notion. Ever since I was little, when I would see a mom and her kids, this thing would happen to me, this recognition that I would be a mom too. And it wasn't some you know... "I want that" or "I hope someday that I have that". It's just something that I've always known. Even when everything else, when it was boyfriend, girlfriend, whatever, when that was blurry... The part of me being a mom, that's always been crystal clear. And if I deny that, I'm gonna feel it forever. I wish I could change the way I feel, but I can't.

Edge: You know, I was thinking. He must've really hated her. You ever wonder what that feels like? That kind of... hate? Because I don't think you're capable of it.
Supergirl: [moves in closer to Edge] You have no idea what I am capable of.
Edge: This about me, now? Because when you got mad at me, you dumped me on a cargo ship in the middle of the sea. [shrugs] But a hassle. Cost me a few hours. Thirty bucks in dry cleaning. I don't know what kinda hippy-dippy justice you practice on your planet, sweetheart, but this is the real world. It's dog-eat-dog out here. Now, if I had an enemy, I'd crush her. Without mercy. Let's say , for instance, I was your enemy. Hmm? The thing for you to do right now would be to kill me. [Supergirl does nothing as Edge stares her down] But you capes. You don't have what it takes. Do you? [Supergirl stares down Edge, but still does nothing] Yeah. I didn't think so. You can leave the way you came in. I think the cleaning crew enjoyed the show.

Lena: Mr. Olsen. I didn't expect you to be here.
James: Well, the news never sleeps.
Lena: How are you, really? I was worried about you.
James: Well, I'm kind of a hard man to keep down, Miss Luthor.
Lena: You know, I have a rule. Whenever anyone takes a bullet for me, they get to call me "Lena".
James: [chuckles] Okay, well, "Lena" it is. And, uh, my friends call me "James". Or... "Jimmy".
Lena: [smiling] Well, feel better, Jimmy Olsen.

Midvale [3.6]

[Kara and Alex are back in their old childhood bedroom.]
Alex: What's the point of all this?
Kara: [sighing] I dunno. We need to sleep. We always slept well here.
Alex: So I'll stay for, like, three days, and Mom will cook tons of food, and I'll gain, like, five pounds, and then walk back into an empty apartment.
Kara: Do you wanna talk about it? It might help.
Alex: You don't get to do that.
Kara: What?
Alex: You don't get to shut down, what, for six months after Mon-El goes, and now sit here and tell me to talk.
Kara: It will get better.
Alex: Yeah? [leans forward, looks Kara right in the eye] Are you better?

[Young Kara and her friend Kenny Lee are stargazing.]
Kenny Lee: [looking up at the stars] Somewhere, past all that darkness, there're whole other worlds. Can you imagine?
Young Kara: [knowing tone] Yeah.
Kenny: What do you think is up there?
Young Kara: I bet it's still just people. Families and... They're staring at the stars above them wondering the same thing about us. It's a beautiful view.
Kenny: [his gaze fixed on Kara] It is.
[Kara catches Kenny's eye and they look at one another. Kenny leans in to kiss Kara. She also leans forward to accept, but turns her head demurely at the last second.]
Young Kara: I... I really like your telescope.
Kenny: [laughs awkwardly] Yeah. You'd be surprised what this thing sees.
Young Kara: You know, you're the only person in Midvale who doesn't make me feel like I'm... like I shouldn't be here.
Kenny: I'm glad you're my friend.
Young Kara: [playfully shoulder-butts Kenny] You, too.

[Young Kara sneaks into her bedroom after her time with Kenny, only to find Alex awake in the other bed.]
Young Alex: Where were you?
Young Kara: None of your business.
Young Alex: It is if I'm the one who would get in trouble for whatever dumb thing you were doing.
Young Kara: I am so sick and tired of you blaming me for every bad thing that's happened to you.
Young Alex: Really? Because my mom wasn't constantly on my ass before you came along. I didn't have to act like some Earthly ambassador to the teenage underworld before you came along, and I'm pretty sure my dad wasn't gone before you came along.
Young Kara: How is that my fault?
Young Alex: Before you crashed in that pod, I had a great life. With two great parents. Now all I have is you. And you are not worth it.

[The young Danvers sisters are examining Kenny's laptop for clues to his murder.]
Young Kara: This thing looks water-damaged.
Young Alex: After being outside all night, I can't believe it's even on.
Young Kara: Um, Clark has a friend named Chloe who might be able to help. She really loves weird tech stuff like this. She even has this whole wall of weird.
Young Alex: Okay, I have no idea what any of that means, but send her a zip drive of everything we find.

Young Alex: Kenny saw you.
Sheriff Collins: Should've kept that telescope up in the sky. He was such a smart kid, good kid.
Young Alex: He was my friend.
Collins: Look, I didn't want to hurt him.
Young Alex: What did you want?
Collins: Little compensation, maybe. Get paid like a dog protecting spoiled rich folks. Drugs come over the border from Canada, hardly even hiding, must think I'm a joke. And the government wants me to burn it. Why not get a little something back for myself? That's all.
Young Alex: Yeah, real heartbreaking. You're a scumbag who kills kids to cover his own ass. You're pathetic!
Collins: You're real brave. Not even screaming. Not that anyone could hear you.
Young Alex: Someone's listening right now. Someone who can hear every single word you say. Every time you breathe. Can you feel it? She's coming. [shouts] Here! I'm down here!
[Kara breaks through the wall, knocking Collins unconscious and hugs Alex]
Young Kara: Are you okay?
Young Alex: Duh, I knew you would come.

Wake Up [3.7]

[M'yrnn J'onzz wanders the D.E.O. corridors as if he's searching for something. Winn happens upon him.]
Winn: Hey. Hi, Mister J. You, uh, looking for something?
M'yrnn J'onzz: I would like to find the baraak.
Winn: Ooo. Ooo, you know I've been brushing up on my Martian. Baraak... "library". [sees by M'yrnn's look he's wrong] No,... "bathroom".
M'yrnn: To relieve myself.
Winn: You-you don't know where it is? You... haven't you been here for, like.... three weeks?
M'yrnn: And four days. Precisely.
Winn: .... Yeah, it's down the hall, uh, around the corner, third door to your left. [looks around] We really... really should put up signs.
M'yrnn: May I go?
Winn: .... Yeah.
M'yrnn: Thank you !! [turns and hurries off]

Samantha: I found out something. About myself. And it's a really good thing. It's gonna answer a lot of questions, but I gotta take this trip to get those questions answered.
Ruby Arias: Can't I come with you? I can come with you.
Samantha: I know you want to, and I wish that you could. But I gotta do this on my own, okay?
[Ruby looks sad and disappointed.]
Samantha: [holds up her hand] Hold my hand. [Ruby takes her hand] You feel that?
Ruby: Your pulse?
Samantha: That's you. You are my heart. Are you gonna trust me? [Ruby nods] Something wonderful is happening.

M'yrnn: This, uh, brown water is a popular beverage on Earth?
J'onn: In the mornings, mostly.
M'yrnn: [takes a sip] Mmm. Yes. I understand the appeal of k'off eee.
J'onn: It's pronounced "coffee". It's only a short walk from the D.E.O. You can come down here any time. [checks his phone]
M'yrnn: [indicating two men playing chess] What is that? A duel of intellect?
J'onn: That is chess. Ancient game of strategy with infinite outcomes.
M'yrnn: Aah. Much like Ok ra'tok. We should play Ok ra'tok sometime.
J'onn: Don't really have a lot of time for games. You should come down here. Learn chess. [looks at his smart watch]
M'yrnn: If you wish to return to the D.E.O., let us go.
J'onn: Oh no, Father, no, it's okay. It's okay. We can stay out. You've been a prisoner for 300 years. You shouldn't feel like a prisoner here.
M'yrnn: I know I am not a prisoner of the D.E.O., my son. You are. You've glanced at your smart devices forty-three times since we arrived. Your body is here, but your mind is trapped in your work. You live there. Your only friends are there. You have nothing outside of it.
J'onn: You've been here three weeks, I've been here 300 years. I think I know a little more about how to engage with this world than you do.
M'yrnn: [nods] Thank you for showing me the way here. I will return if I require more brown water.
J'onn: Father-
M'yrnn: You have completed your mission, and now I would like to return to my room. [walks off, leaving J'onn standing in the park]

[Mon-El wakes up in a containment cell, with Kara standing outside.]
Kara: I don't understand. I want to give you the benefit of the doubt, but... you attacked two agents. [emotional] Was... were you confused by the hypersleep? Is that why you snuck out of the med-bay, broke into a secure storage room, and almost killed two people?
Mon-El: I didn't almost kill anyone.
Kara: Is it not you?
Mon-El: It's me.
Kara: [on the verge of tears] Then make me believe it. Please? .... You know, I don't sleep anymore? I lay awake at night just staring at the ceiling, because if I close my eyes, I dream about you dying. I see you... disappearing into the... blackness of space forever.... This was all I wanted. This. And when I saw you on that ship, oh my God, I felt like I could hope again. I could touch you and see you and hear you and be with you, finally. But... you're... you're different. And I....
[Mon-El just sits silently.]
Kara: You have nothing to say?.... nothing?
Mon-El: I'm sorry.
Kara: [now more collected] Shame on me for having a human heart. [leaves]

M'yrnn: What are these empty rooms for?
J'onn: It's... not much, but um... it's an apartment, to live in. I never thought I'd see you again, Father. Not after the invasion. I'd gotten so used to living here on Earth on my own. Work has always made me feel productive, useful. But you're so right. I have isolated myself in my work. When I was a child, you taught me to always see the beauty in life. I've lost sight of that over the years.
M'yrnn: Nothing is ever lost for good. It may not be Mars, but there is much beauty to be found on this planet.
J'onn: There is.
M'yrnn: I am here for you now, son.
J'onn: I know. That's why we're here.
M'yrnn: At this apartment?
J'onn: I thought it might be a better fit than the D.E.O., for both of us.
M'yrnn: You shall move here, too?
J'onn: We could make this our... home. If you like.
M'yrnn: I would like that, very much.

Crisis on Earth-X, Part 1 [3.8]

This episode is Part One of a four-part crossover event called Crisis on Earth-X. For quotations, see the related page.

Reign [3.9]

Mon-El: Strange as it may sound, the 31st century is actually not that different from today.
Winn: What, better smartphones?
Imra Ardeen: What's a "phone"?
Winn: [amused] "What's a phone?" Awww... The future's awesome.
Mon-El: Well, technology is developed beyond imagining. But, at the end of the day, it's still in service of communicating with each other. And entertaining each other. And also killing each other. In this day or in a thousand years, conflict is constant. But so is strength.

M'yrnn: J'onn, I do not know why you introduced me to koff-ee first. This brown water is vastly superior.
J'onn: Yeah, I don't take advantage of hot cocoa enough.
M'yrnn: I enjoy "Krist-mas". [regards a Christmas tree] What a wonderful way to close your year. Paying homage to an evergreen creature. It so reminds me of Life Day.
Winn: Excuse me. Hi. Life Day? As in the Star Wars Holiday Special? It was on CBS? Princess Leia, like, sang a song... you have no idea what I'm talking about. [realizing] Oh my god, you don't... know what Star Wars is. [to J'onn] You probably don't know what Star Wars is.
J'onn: Excuse me? The Empire Strikes Back is the best movie sequel of all time!
Winn: Ah, man, I just love you more and more each day.
M'yrnn: What's a "sequel"?

[Lena and James are confronting Edge regarding the Reign symbols appearing throughout National City.]
Edge: Ah, Lena, Lena! C'mon, it's Christmas! Where's your Christmas spirit? It's my favorite time of the year. The only fires I'm lighting are the ones I'm gonna roast chestnuts over. And if you think I had anything to do with going after you, which you sure as hell can't prove, my line of attack would be much, much more effective. [indicating James] Is that why you brought your bodyguard?
James: I'm here just to make sure that you remain... civil.
Edge: [gets right in James' face] Jimmy, I get the feeling your dislike for me is... more than just purely professional.
James: You get feelings?

Mon-El: Look, Imra... she feels really bad that she upset you. That wasn't, that was not her intention.
Kara: Oh, no, she didn't do anything wrong. She was very kind and, uh, generous. And you know, she's smart and beautiful, and even though she looks like a Greek goddess, I can't find any reason to hate her. But am I okay with this?.... No.
Mon-El: Kara,--
Kara: No, stop. Please, Mon-El, I... I see this very clearly for what it is. We're just three good people stuck in a really crappy situation. But, you know what? At least two of us still get to be happy. [walks away, then turns around, barely containing herself] And just for the record, Mon-El, I really am trying to be okay with this, but.... this is... this is worse than... the worst thing that I could possibly imagine, and that's you... looking at me with no love in your eyes. So please, just... please. [walks off]

[Reign has just defeated Supergirl in a brutal fight across National City, the battle ending on a skyscraper rooftop. A battered, bloodied Supergirl can barely move as Reign approaches her.]
Reign: I'm going to kill you.
Supergirl: [trying to get up] You don't... You don't scare me.
Reign: You are no god. Just as I am no devil. All I am is truth. [picks Supergirl up by her throat] And judgement. [dangles her over the rooftop edge] And death. And I will reign.
[Reign drops Supergirl, who falls and crashes into the pavement below.]

Legion of Superheroes [3.10]

[Reign flies into the main CATCO office after throwing an injured criminal's body through the upper-story window into the room.]
Lena: Why have you come here?
Reign: To deliver a message.
Lena: We are not your messengers.
Reign: [smiles] Yes, you are. [points to a CATCO employee] You! Turn your camera on me.
[The employee picks up a TV camera and starts filming Reign.]
Reign: This man was a thief, condemned by his own actions. You've allowed sin to take root and fester like a weed. And worst of all, you have looked away. Apathy is the greatest sin of all. From now on, it will be punished in kind. There will be no more mercy. There will only be justice. I'm here to help.
[Reign flies away through the broken window.]

Alex: Ooo. Your eye. What happened to you?
Coville: Oh, I was spreading the truth to my fellow inmates. They would have preferred I lie.
Alex: Do you want to spread a little truth to me? I'll pass it along to Supergirl. You're her biggest fan, right? She said that you knew about the Reign of the Beast. What else do you know that can help us beat her?
Coville: Beat her? She's already won.
Alex: No. Supergirl's still alive.
Coville: She was supposed to rise, find her faith, and deliver it. But Supergirl refused her faith and she failed the test.
Alex: Supergirl will defeat her. You just have to help us stop her.
Coville: Supergirl lost so that Reign can prepare us for what comes next.
Alex: Never underestimate Supergirl.

J'onn: No Supergirl. No cavalry. Reign is strong. But she doesn't know what we're capable of. Let's show her.
Alex: You ready? [tosses J'onn a gun]
J'onn: I just had a conversation about James Olsen's extraordinary kissing ability. This'll be a Sunday picnic.

Mon-El: We have people counting on us in the future, and we can't get involved.
Imra: You keep saying that. That this isn't our fight. What about Tommy and Gina? Hmm? "You live for the fight when it's all that you've got."
Mon-El: Bon Jovi.
Imra: Or was that all a lie?
Mon-El: No. No, he speaks the truth.
Imra: I know we had a plan. We are supposed to help people. We're sworn to helping people. But these people need our help right now. It's who we are.

Mon-El: I was really worried about you. When you didn't wake up. I still care about you.
Kara: I know.
Mon-El: [walks off, then turns back] It's great fighting with you again.
Kara: Yeah.
Mon-El: I missed that. [walks back into the infirmary]
[Brainy walks by.]
Kara: Hey! It's you. Are you shorter?
Brainy: Are you suggesting that I augmented my height when I entered your consciousness, so that you might see me as a more stable and trustworthy figure and therefore work with me to help you?
Kara: ... uh, Yeah?
Brainy: Yes. I did do exactly that. [Kara laughs] It's nice to meet you in real life. [walks off]

Fort Rozz [3.11]

Alex: Well, I'm... I mean, I'm not doing anything. So I'm happy to have Ruby here with me.
Samantha: No, I couldn't ask you. Look at your leg.
Ruby: Come on, Mom, let me stay with Alex. At the Christmas party, she promised to teach me how to punch without breaking my thumb.
Alex: Full disclosure: I am not a good babysitter.
Kara: Yeah. You should listen to her 'cause one time, she made me watch The Shining, and I had nightmares for weeks.
Alex: Um, okay, she was fifteen --
Kara: So?
Alex: So... you were the one who wanted to watch it.

[Winn is showing Brainy the D.E.O. command center.]
Winn: Aaand this is where the magic happens, my friend. From here, we can monitor and communicate with the Legion cruiser any time throughout their entire mission.
Brainy: [looking around] Incredible. You actually rely on this to keep people safe. This is the technology that backs up Supergirl when she goes into battle?
Winn: [hesitant] It.. is. Yes.
Brainy: She is so much braver than I ever knew. I've seen espresso machines with more processing power.

Livewire: [regarding the seemingly vacant Fort Rozz] This place is like the Mall of America. You could wander around here for days and not find a thing.

Livewire: So this Reign character. We're getting information so we can kill her?
Kara: No. Of course not. The priestess will have information that I could use to get through to her.
Livewire: What?! You and your Pollyanna B.S. You think you're gonna get through to Reign.
Kara: I got through to you. There must be something good in you that I could trust to come with me.
Livewire: I came with you because there's a maniac on the loose and I wanna take her down. If you think I wouldn't fry you right now,--
Kara: So do it.
[They stare each other down.]
Livewire: All I'm saying is somebody as evil as Reign deserves to die.
Kara: And anyone else who thinks otherwise is just a sucker?
Livewire: Now you're catching on.

Kara: Can you tell me about Reign?
Jindah Kol Rozz: She will destroy you.
Kara: I've heard otherwise.
Jindah Kol Rozz: You know nothing of the nature of destruction. You are a child, living in light. But there is darkness in all things. In every soul you know. Who will it take?
Kara: No one. If I have anything to say about it.
Jindah Kol Rozz: Oh. You fly too close to the sun. I have languished in pain for time beyond reason because of you. The children of light. But your pretty skin will soon be brittle scales in hellfire when the others awake and unite beneath the standard of Reign.
Kara: Others? What do you mean "Others"?
Jindah Kol Rozz: Worldkillers. The Power! The Pustulence! The Purity!

For Good [3.12]

Samantha: Um, so I looked up my symptoms. Memory loss, headaches. It could be really bad. Like, brain tumor bad. ALS.
Alex: You know what else causes memory loss. Caffeine withdrawal. Yikes.

Lena: You know, Edge, you act like a bully, but underneath it all, you are scared to death of a powerful woman you can't control. You're so terrified you would sacrifice kids, poison our water, do just about anything to kill me and get rid of the problem.
Edge: Then you got it wrong, Lena. I like powerful women, Nay, I love powerful women. But you're not a powerful woman. You're wasting away in that ivory tower. Posing as Cat Grant. Hoping that the gleam of liberal media gonna somehow magically rub off on you. I don't have to kill you, Lena. You're already dead. [turns and walks to his car] Enjoy the eggs, kids. They're mediocre, you'll fit right in.
Lena: Burn in Hell, Edge.
Edge: [grins] I hear the company's fantastic.

J'onn: This world is a crazy place right now. People acting, reacting. Escalating behaviors. Like what Morgan Edge did to Lena. What our lawmakers are doing. Sniping at each other, going round and round in circles, not doing any good. Reminds me of Mars before the civil war. But like my father said then, "There is great power in being the calm in the center of the storm. A beacon, to show the way." Supergirl is here to remind us on Earth about what's best in ourselves. That's what's most important. It's more important than if you were to ever catch another bullet.

Lena: What are you doing here, Mother?
Lillian: What do you think? A man has been trying to assassinate my daughter, I came back to kill him.
Lena: How sweet. Now what are you really doing here?
Lillian: You know, you really hurt me, Lena. No matter how hard I try to show it, you still doubt my love for you. Do you know of any other mother who would kill for her daughter?
Lena: No, I don't. It's probably a good thing for society.

[Lillian has donned the LEXO armored battlesuit to kill Edge. Supergirl lands in-between them.]
Supergirl: Suit's a bit much, don't you think?
Lillian: Says the girl in a cape.

Both Sides Now [3.13]

[As the D.E.O. search the house, a woman's voice can be heard singing.]
J'onn: Is that Lisa Loeb?
Mon-El: I thought the target's name was Julia Freeman.

Samantha: It's been a rough couple of months, I feel like we can both play a little hooky.
Ruby: Oh, my God, you're being serious.
Samantha: I'm serious. Sound like a plan?
Ruby: Hell, yeah.
Samantha: You get precisely one "Hell, yes" a day. I hope you enjoyed that.
Ruby: Okay.

Kara: Alex, wait, listen to me. I am used to you being pragmatic, but since when have you become so hard and cynical?
Alex: Well, not all of us are bulletproof, Kara!
Kara: I know.
Alex: So cynicism... that's what's keeping the rest of us alive.
Kara: Seems like it's killing you. My sister, the sister I know, she has compassion for others.

[J'onn, carrying two bottles, walks in on Mon-El.]
Mon-El: Thought you left
J'onn: [in a low voice] I did, but uh... only to get these. Come on. [Mon-El comes over and J'onn hands him a bottle.] It's sort of, uh... Martian moonshine. It's kinda spicy. It has a consciousness-enhancing quality to it.
Mon-El: This has a label.
J'onn: Oh, yeah. I sell it to the alien bars. Doing quite well.

Mon-El: Winn, hey, I heard you fixed it (the Legion cruiser). How did you–
Winn: I... I mean, I, I assisted.
Imra: That was a little more than an assist. He reset Morran math, the chronorunner and time measurement system on a scale of twelve instead of ten.
Winn: Yes, sort of how in America, we use inches instead of the metric system. They must have switched over before this here battery was invented, which actually, you know, gives me hope for America.
Mon-El: So we were overloading the fuel cells.
Winn: Bingo.
Mon-El: Thanks, Winn.
Winn: I mean, if you really want to thank me, you could, uh... let me take this out for a test drive. Just sayin'.

Schott Through the Heart [3.14]

M'yrnn: [worn out from singing Karaoke] Karao-ke is not for the weak. It requires either great courage or a complete lack of shame. But I like it.

[Winn has just learned his father died.]
James: You mind if I stay out here for a second with you?
Winn: [struggling with his feelings] Like, he's just gone, right? That's, that's all. I mean, it's not like anything's gonna change. I... never talked to him, never saw him, I....
James: That doesn't mean you never felt him.
Winn: Uh, I'm supposed to be feeling something, right? I don't feel... [gestures emptily] anything... I don't think... um,... Just go inside.
James: I'm not going back in.
Winn: Okay.

Mon-El: Hey, I, uh... I owe you an apology.
Kara: For what?
Mon-El: When we were together, I never really got... how it must have been for you to find out that I had been lying. About being Daxxam's prince, about a lot of stuff. And I am sorry that I did that to you.
Kara: I do really appreciate you saying that.
Mon-El: Yes, of course.
Kara: Are you okay?
Mon-El: Uh, yeah, Imra... Imra lied to me. About, um,... about something big. With Legion business. And Brainy was in on it, too.
Kara: Oh. Wow.
Mon-El: Yeah. When your wife conspires with your best friend, it–
Kara: Feels like garbage.

Alex: You've chosen to live as a black man in America. Which is a harder existence, in and of itself. Why?
J'onn: You know, I was... I was forced to become Hank Henshaw out of desperation, but now I, I choose this face. I like it. And I wouldn't want to live in a world where I need to change the color of my skin to feel safe, to feel seen, to feel like... I'm not a target. I'd rather change the world.
M'yrnn: And whatever my son's fight may be, I choose it as well.
Alex: And I have your backs.

Mary Schott: Sorry about the mess.
Kara: Oh, this? This is... that's not your fault
Mary: Can I ask, uh, when it comes to your day-to-day, on a scale of one to ten... how big of a pain in the ass are flying monkeys?
Kara: Maybe a two.

In Search of Lost Time [3.15]

Winn: I have done something amazing.
Kara: Did you find Pestilence?
Winn: I have done... something okay. [to Mon-El] You. Come here.
Mon-El: What?
Winn: I have fixed your old suit.
Mon-El: Winn. [hugs Winn, lifting him off the ground]
Winn: [to Kara] Hey, can I say it? Can I say it? Please?
Kara: Yes.
Winn: [to Mon-El] Suit up.

M'yrnn: Now come. Play a match with me. I never tire of beating you.
J'onn: I gotta get back to work. Why don't you bring the game to the D.E.O.? We can play later.
M'yrnn: As soon as I finish my game against Zook (J'onn's childhood imaginary friend).... [looks around, confused] He was right here. Where is he?
J'onn: [concerned] Dad?
M'yrnn: [winks at J'onn, who becomes visibly relieved.] A joke.
J'onn: Not funny, Dad.
M'yrnn: Only because you did not see your face.

Lena: An employee of mine asked for help with a problem. And now that I've diagnosed the solution, they don't want to accept it.
James: Sounds like they need an intervention.
Lena: Tried that. It's not going well.
James: Yeah, I had a roommate, in college. Great guy, but he started taking something. I'm not sure what it was, but he would come home, all hours of the night, and just tear the place apart. I tried to tell him that he had a problem, but he never wanted to hear it. So I just kept cleaning up after him.
Lena: Did he ever acknowledge what was wrong with him?
James: See, that's the thing. No matter how bad you want to help somebody, all you can really do is hold up a mirror.

Kara: [upon seeing Mon-El in costume] Wow.
Mon-El: You always said I cleaned up nicely. It's just like old times, huh? Training again?
Kara: Except I basically had to twist your arm to train. You had no interest in being a hero. And now....
Mon-El: We've come a long way.

J'onn: I can face down the toughest adversaries without fear, but talking to my father about this (his dementia).... [regains his composure] I don't want to take away more from him than he's already lost. I just got him back. The practice of ta'ha kareek keeps him as close to the man I've always known. I... I don't want to give that up.
Kara: My uncle Jor-El used to say "The son becomes the father, and the father the son."

Of Two Minds [3.16]

[An unfamiliar person walks into the D.E.O. lab.]
Alex: [drawing her gun] Hey! Stop right there.
Mon-El: Whoa. Whoa, whoa, whoa. Guys, it's Brainy.
Brainy: Oh, of course. I'm wearing a personal image inducer. [touches his forehead, regains his alien appearance] I had to purchase some apple cider vinegar and I nearly caused a riot at the Piggly Wiggly.
Kara: Huh.
Brainy: [resuming his illusory disguise] I thought this would, uh... help me fit in better.
Winn: [walking in] Hey, guys. I just got word from City H-- [sees the disguised Brainy] .... Hi, Brainy
Kara: Wait, you-you recognize him?
Winn: Yeah. What, is that an image inducer? Eh? Ah, so our brains just think we're seeing a human, but nooo. Hey, can I borrow that for Halloween?

Dr. Grace Parker: Well, if you're sure it's not contagious, then I need the quarantine lifted and the patients transferred to the nearest trauma facility.
Alex: We have a lead on a treatment.
Grace: You do? Already?
Winn: Well, we work very fast on account of being really smart. [smiles goofily]
Grace: Some people find humor charming during stressful circumstances. I find it's a mask for a lack of confidence.
Winn: Well, I find that... I have no retort.

Kara: Do you think I'll get through to Pestilence?
J'onn: There's no way of knowing. You just have to try.
Kara: That's not what Yoda would say.
J'onn: Oh, yeah. Yoda. "Do or do not." He was wrong about that one.

Mon-El: We took an oath when we formed the Legion: to preserve all that is good and to never harm the innocent. How is this mission in line with that? We should not kill Pestilence. [off Brainy's look] And you're obviously on Imra's side..
Brainy: It's not about picking sides, Mon-El. If we kill Pestilence when we find her, there is a 98.459 percent chance the Blight will never happen. Millions of people will be saved. Now, if we try to rescue the person inside of her in order to defeat her, that chance is reduced to 52.744 percent.
Mon-El: Some decisions can't be made with a math equation.

Grace: My mother used to always say that good would be rewarded with grace. But when I became a surgeon, I finally saw the truth. There is no reward for being good.
Kara: Whatever is happening to you doesn't give you power over who lives. Only over who dies. You don't want that. [holds out her hand] We can stop it.
Grace: [takes Kara's hand] Stop it. Why would I ever want to stop it? This is the greatest thing that's ever happened to me. I don't have to worry about saving anyone anymore because I don't want to. [shoves Kara's hand away]
Kara: No.
Grace: I get to choose who dies.
Kara: Grace.
Grace: They say that surgeons have a God complex, but it's simple. [speaks in Pestilence's voice] I. Am. A god!

Trinity [3.17]

J'onn: So, for three weeks, you've been harboring and abetting a mass murderer?
Lena: I helped a friend.
J'onn: And you didn't think to bring this to our attention?
Lena: The attention of a clandestine organization that has never formally acknowledged its existence to me? No, I am not your employee. I have not signed a contract, nor sworn an oath. I conducted an L-Corp experiment using L-Corp technology on L-Corp property.

Kara: I'm just tired. Brainy said it would be hard for me to carry both of you in here. Is this what it's like when humans exercise? This is terrible! Why would you ever exercise?
Alex: One foot in front of the other.

Lena: What I did wasn't personal.
Alex: You had a stash that kills Kryptonians, Lena. It's personal.
Lena: I would never use it for that. You know that.
Kara: I thought I knew everything I needed to know, but you have secrets. It changes things.
Lena: Ah, right. You don't like secrets.
Kara: Nope, I don't.
Lena: Good. What's your real name?
Kara: That's not a great question for a Luthor to ask someone in my family.
Lena: You have secrets? I can get on board with that. I have secrets, too.

Kara: Hey. Hey. Uh... Cool new suit!
Alex: Winn did me a solid. [offers Winn a fist bump]
Winn: [returning the bump] Yes! Upgrades!
Alex: Well, I have been asking the director of the D.E.O. for one for years, but... just kept getting denied.
J'onn: Blame it on Congress. I don't write our budgets. Besides, don't you miss your polo? It looked like it was sweat-wicking.
Alex: [mock-serious] I have a really cool new gun. Don't think it won't work on you.
J'onn: [in good humor] Don't shoot.

Lena: Surprised you'd want to see me.
James: You know, for quite some time, I've been looking for any reason, any reason I could to distrust you. It's not your fault, it's just, um... Lex baggage, whatever. But for the last two years, you have done nothing but prove me wrong.
Lena: Until now.
James: No. No. The way I see it, your friend came to you with something unbearable. You tried your best to help her carry it. You did everything in your power to help her, regardless of what that might look like to other people when they found out. And that's beautiful. That's somebody I want to know.
Lena: Really?
James: Yeah.

Shelter From The Storm [3.18]

Brainy: When I first got here, I assessed you as a first-level intellect.
Winn: [deadpan] Thank you.
Brainy: As reference, I'm a twelfth.
Winn: Oh, yes. Yes, you've mentioned that.
Brainy: But now that I've gotten to know you, I realize that you're actually, more accurately categorized as a one-point-four-two level intellect.
Winn: [deadpan] Wow. Thank-thank you.

Supergirl: You think I should be grateful that you learned how to make the one substance on this planet that can kill me?
Lena: Thousands of things can kill me, Supergirl. And everyone else on this planet. Fire, but we don't go around banning bonfires or candles. Cars kill people every day, and yet we still have the courage to get in them every morning and drive ourselves to work. There is one element on the planet that kills Kryptonians, and you can't tolerate its existence.
Supergirl: No.
Lena: You really do have a God complex.
Supergirl: Do you know what it's like to walk into a room and your skin feel like it's going to be seared off your bones? Or like nails are running through your blood? That's what kryptonite feels like.
Lena: Well, I don't know, it sounds like exactly what you need to subdue Reign.

[An unmasked Reign advances on Ruby, intending to kill her, when Supergirl intercedes.]
Supergirl: No! You can't !
Reign: You would stop me?
Supergirl: I don't have to. You have a code. A purpose. You fight against evil and you dispense justice. You're here to make a better world. One without sin in it. But this girl (indicating Ruby) has not sinned. You can't kill her. You won't.

M'yrnn: I discovered the most incredible thing today. Did you know if you grind the k'off eee beans with the cocoa beans, you get the most delectable mixture. It makes the flavor sensors of my mouth... smile.
J'onn: [laughing, happy] It's called a mocha, Father.
M'yrnn: Mooh-ka. Hm. I would have thought... "choco k'off eee".
J'onn: "Choco k'off eee". You know, that does kind of have a ring to it.

[Lena runs into Kara on an elevator, still unaware that Kara is Supergirl.]
Kara: Alex tells me that you're helping Supergirl fight Reign. I'm sure she's so grateful for your help.
Lena: Well... frankly, I am only working with Supergirl to save Sam, because I have no other choice.
Kara: What do you mean?
Lena: Well, it's that old adage: "Never meet your idols." You know? It'll only lead to disappointment?
Kara: [subdued] Oh, yes.
Lena: Supergirl's not all truth and justice like she pretends to be. You know, she had James break into L-Corp and search my private vault?
Kara: .... I'm sure she had a really good reason.
Lena: Of course, James didn't do it.
Kara: Really?
Lena: Well, no. We've been dating each other for months. He knows me and he trusts me, and I trust him. Supergirl went behind my back and used my personal relationships against me. That's like something my mother would do. She crossed a line. And I can never trust her again.

The Fanatical [3.19]

James: Kara. Something happen with Reign?
Kara: No, actually it's... it's Lena. Why did you tell her that Supergirl asked Guardian to go into her lab to find kryptonite? Now she has a problem with me.
James: She does not have a problem with you. She couldn't wait to see you this morning. She was talking about you.
Kara: She couldn't wait to see Kara. Not Supergirl. She has a problem with Supergirl. [sighs] Supergirl can't tell her that she can actually trust me because I'm her best friend, Kara. But Kara can't tell her why Supergirl took it so personally that she was using kryptonite behind her back because... Lena doesn't actually know that I'm Supergirl.
James: You know what you said is really confusing, right?

J'onn: [Seeing books about grief] Some light reading?
Alex: Yeah, I'm just trying to figure out how to reach Ruby. You know, I mean, I lost my dad as a teenager, so I figured "Hey, I should be a natural" at helping her get through this whole ordeal with her mom. But nothing I have tried is working. So I bought every book that I could find on helping kids deal with trauma.
J'onn: I'd imagine none of those books have chapters on what to do when your mother's a Worldkiller who tried to murder you.
Alex: Hm. You know, they left that one out.

Supergirl: I just don't want one mistake to ruin our friendship, that's all.
Lena: It won't.
Supergirl: Good.
Lena: We don't have a friendship, Supergirl. All this time we've been working together, it's been about work. We have a mission to complete, and I am not about to let any tension between you and I get in the way of that. Are you?
Supergirl: Of course not. I... I just hope, um... when we solve this, we can work to rebuild our trust.
Lena: Why is it so important to you that we're friends? I have friends, Supergirl. Friends that don't scheme behind my back or lie. Given my family history, they know how painful that would be. They also know I would never enter into a friendship with someone who's already breached that trust.
Supergirl: Understood.

Lena: Everyone knows that Guardian's a hero.
James: But not everyone knows that Guardian is black. You know how old I was the first time cops put cuffs on me? Seven. I was seven years old. My family and I were taking a vacation. We were staying at this nice hotel, and my cousins and I decided to go out in the grounds and play hide-and-go-seek. One minute I'm trying my damndest not to be found, and in the next I'm shielding my eyes from police lights. And these four huge cops, they came and they pulled us out of our hiding places, and the whole time we're saying "Wait, what are you doing? We're staying here," but none of them believed that we were supposed to be there, none of them believed that we belonged. So my oldest cousin must've been about eleven, and I was the smallest, but they slapped cuffs on all of us anyway, and my arms were so little they had to put them around my forearms. Then they marched us into the hotel lobby like a bunch of criminals, and my mom was there, and then they believed us. She kept yelling "Get those cuffs off my boys!" Those cuffs. [sighs]
Lena: James, that's horrible.
James: [nodding] Racism is the oldest form of bullying.
Lena: I'm so sorry that happened to you.
James: But when I became Guardian, I put that mask on and it was strangely liberating. It was the first time, in my life, that I had the opportunity to be judged on my action and my heart, not how I look.

M'yrnn: We do not have cork trees on Mars.
Ruby: Mars? Wait, you're from Mars?
M'yrnn: Of course.
Ruby: Really? Wait, what's it like there?
M'yrnn: It was, once, a place of great nobility. People lived simply, yet with joy. I long for that place.
Ruby: What happened?
M'yrnn: War. My family was killed. A very long time ago.
Ruby: How did you recover? I mean, after that happened.
M'yrnn: Faith. I believed, if my heart remained pure, H'ronmeer would provide for me. It was difficult, but I was strong. Like you.
Ruby: H'ronmeer's, like, the God on Mars? [M'yrnn chuckles] Did he come through?
M'yrnn: He brought me back my son.

Dark Side of the Moon [3.20]

Mon-El: You okay?
Kara: Yeah. Just thinking how ironic this is. Donning disguises across the solar system seems to be my karma.
Mon-El: It's necessary for survival.
Kara: So is Kara Danvers. Just wish my day-to-day life didn't have to have a disguise. It's exhausting.
Mon-El: In the future, I just live in the open. All Legionnaires do. There's no secret identities, no disguises. 24/7, I'm just... me, Mon-El from the Legion of Super-Heroes. And it's still exhausting.
Kara: What we do, the responsibilities we have, there's always a trade-off, isn't there?

James: I mean, well, there's still a chance that Supergirl can come back in time.
Lena: And if she doesn't?.... James, I don't know what to do.
James: What would Sam want you to do?
Lena: Sam wanted me to heal her.
James: No, not what Sam wanted you to do. What would Sam want you to do now, with the choice that you're presented with?
Lena: .... She'd choose Ruby. Over anything. Even her own life. She'd want me to protect her daughter.
James: It's a difficult choice. But it sounds like you have the answer.

Winn: I'm a - I'm a jerk.
Ruby: Yeah.
Winn: I know what you're going through. I actually do. I had a very... complicated relationship with my dad. He actually tried to, um... to kill me, too, believe it or not. But you know, for the longest time... Dude, I was terrified that whatever made him what he was, like, that was inside of me, too. You know, that... evil.
Ruby: I know what you mean. But you're not evil.
Winn: No. No, I'm not. Just a jerk.

Selena: Argo was spared the fate of the rest of Krypton. But what value is our civilization if we don't use our stolen time to right the sins of the past? We must set an example for future generations, or else our survival means nothing. [hands Kara a fragment of the Urrica rock]
Kara: Thank you
Selena: May Rao's light shine upon you.
Mon-El: It was a pleasure meeting you. I'm very fond of your daughter, as are many others on Earth and across time. You should be very proud of what she's become.
Alura Zor-El: I am. [to Kara] It's amazing that something so small and unremarkable can hold the key to so much survival.

Alex: You know, when you first approached me about working at the D.E.O., I was failing med school, I was drunk, and I was completely lost. But you, J'onn, you gave me purpose. You know, something to stand up for, something to devote my life for. But today, I risked my life for it. You know, I jumped straight across without hesitating, without even thinking. And to be honest, I mean that wasn't even the tallest building I've jumped off of in the line of duty.
J'onn: You are someone who makes the hard choices, Alex. You go the extra mile.
Alex: Yeah. Exactly. And that's who I am. It's just... baked into me. You know, jumping buildings, making enemies, that's all part of the job. But the irony here is, is that the thing I had to do to save myself is the very same thing that could've killed me. I mean, one more inch... and I would've died. And then, where would she be? [nods towards Ruby] I broke up with Maggie because I wanted to be a mother. And one day, I will be. You know, whether I'm with somebody or if I'm doing it by myself. I know that's what I want. And I know that that is who I am. Just like I know that I'm the person that's gonna jump the buildings to stop the bad guy. And I... I keep wondering, I mean, can those two people co-exist? And is that fair? Is it fair to the person that I'm coming home to?
J'onn: You may be the person who jumps the building to stop the bad guy, but you're also one of the most intelligent and intuitive women I know. You are an incredible agent and I know you're going to be an incredible mother. So when the time is right, I know you'll make the choice that's right for you.

Not Kansas [3.21]

[The Reign essence has seemingly been expelled from Sam's body.]
Lena: Sam? Can you hear me?
Sam: [weakly] Hi, Lena.... Do you have some aspirin?

Kara: I'm really gonna miss you guys. This world was so foreign and terrifying, but over the years I've learned to feel safe here. It's been an honor protecting this planet and being protected by it. And I owe all of that to you.
J'onn: Hear, hear.
Kara: [voice-over during montages of Supergirl's and Kara Danvers' farewell parties] You are my friends who understand me and make me laugh. You are my role models, who have built me into a leader and shown me what it means to find fulfillment in the work we do. This world has given me a family. In taking this chance to revisit my home, my first home, I'm bringing you all with me in my heart. And I'm at peace knowing you'll be holding down the fort here until I'm back. And this is not "Goodbye". It's "See you on the flip side." Or as we say on Krypton: "Kaoshuh" – "To be continued."

Guardian: [playing with a basketball] Nothing. There's nothing going on.
Winn: [playing with a nerf gun] Nada. Not even a jaywalker.
Guardian: How did Supergirl do this on quiet nights?
Winn: Yeah, she would stay home.
Guardian: Ah, yeah, right. The luxury of super-hearing.

Mon-El: Why are you smiling?
Kara: It just feels amazing to be normal. I'm actually relieved I can't fly. No one to save. Do you hear that undetectable sound in the distance?
Mon-El: No.
Kara: Exactly.

Lena: People don't like the government keeping track of the guns they own.
James: I never really understood that argument. That someone's right to own an assault weapon is more important than someone's right to go to school safely.
Lena: I have a gun for self-defense. I have used it for self-defense.
James: [in disbelief] You're not telling me you're one of those people that thinks that having a gun makes everybody safer, right?
Lena: We disagree. But I can see your side, and hopefully you can see my side, too.
James: I'm open to listening.
Lena: Good, 'cause things get done when we listen to each other.

Make It Reign [3.22]

M'yrnn: I came because I wished to see you again, Alex. To say goodbye.
J'onn: [restrained] It's, uh... It's time.
M'yrnn: You have brought me much joy in my time on your Earth, Alex. You and your friends have shown me strange and wonderful things. You know, you have a rare gift for intuiting the feelings of others. You would have made an excellent Green Martian. [Both J'onn and Alex become emotional.] Most of all, you have given me the great gift of witnessing your love for my son. Home is not a place. It is living among those who love and honor you. I can depart this world with peace, because I know my son is home.
Alex: [choking up] It has been a great honor getting to spend time with you, M'yrnn. And now I know where J'onn... gets his dignity... and his enormous heart. [hugs M'yrnn]

[Winn secretly activates his new personal force field and walks up to D.E.O. agent Deimos.]
Winn: Yo, Deimos. Punch me. [Deimos turns to look at Winn.] You heard me. Punch. Me.
Deimos: [stands up] Finally.
Winn: Seriously? You're not even, really, gonna like ask?
[Deimos punches Winn, only for his fist to be stopped by the force field. Winn does a little victory spin.]
Deimos: You know, that wasn't as satisfactory as I'd imagined. And I've imagined it.

M'yrnn: How does it feel, my son, to now know all of the five hundred million moves on the Ok'ra'tohk board?
J'onn: Enlightened, Father.
M'yrnn: Just don't share them with your imaginary friend Zook.
[M'yrnn and J'onn recall memories from "Schott Though The Heart", "In Search of Lost Time" and "Wake Up".]
M'yrnn: These are happy memories. They should make you happy.
J'onn: And they do, Father. But they also remind me how much I'm going to miss you. Every memory that passes between us brings us closer to that eventuality.
M'yrnn: By the end of this, you will not feel loss, J'onn. You will feel complete, I promise.

Winn: I thought you were gonna call the Legion and go straight back to the future.
Mon-El: [hesitantly] Uh... yeah. Yeah, I was, but then, uh, the time beacon broke and, and Kara ran into some troubles, so I, uh... I decided to stay back to...
Winn: Uh huh. Always the he-ro.
Mon-El: .... I lost her once, Winn. I'm not sure if I could do it again.
Winn: [lowered voice] Wow, really? Dude. Dude, forget Reign. You need to get back here fast so we can get a drink.

Alura: Your friend Sam is strong.
Alex: Well, she's fighting for her daughter. Like you.
Kara: [excited] Mom... This is Alex.
Alura: Oh. [embraces Alex] You and your family rescued my daughter. I am indebted to you.
Alex: Well, sometimes I think she's the one that rescued us.

Battles Lost and Won [3.23]

Kara: You're all clear, kid. Now let's blow this thing and go home.
Brainy: I assume that's some sort of film reference.
Kara: We never showed you Star Wars? Not a single Star War?

M'yrnn: I'm sorry I couldn't give you the rest.
J'onn: Don't apologize. Don't.
M'yrnn: I had a good life.
J'onn: [emotional] I'm not ready.
M'yrnn: You are. You looked into the flames, and you had no fear.
J'onn: That's because you were with me.
M'yrnn: That will never change, J'onn. Never. Live as H'ronmeer taught, among the people. Promote peace. And... be happy... my son.

Brainy: Killing Pestilence saved the future from the Blight. Millions of people were spared. Including my... extremely distant relative. The Evil One. Who has created a plague to wipe out all AIs other than himself. In short, all AIs are in danger, and I can no longer stay there. The future needs heroes. The future needs leaders.
Mon-El: The future has leaders.
Brainy: The future needs you, Mon-El. To fight. And it needs Winn to take my place in the Legion and save the AIs.

Mon-El: Well, you did it. Just like a Greek myth. You went down into the underworld and slayed the three-headed monster and saved Persephone.
Kara: Uh, I think in the myth, Persephone eats pomegranate seeds and is confined to the realm of Hades forever.
Mon-El: Yeah, well, that just strengthens my point, because the Greek gods have nothing on you.

[Kara and Alex have just watched a news report about James revealing himself to be Guardian.]
Kara: [amazed] He did it.
Alex: How 'bout Winn joining the Legion?
Kara: [chuckles] Do you think he'll make them new outfits?
Alex: Oh, absolutely.
Kara: I still can't get over J'onn, following in his father's footsteps. Leaving the D.E.O. I did not see that coming.
Alex: Yeah.
Kara: What about you, Director Danvers? You're so brave.
Alex: Yeah. Look at you, okay? I mean, leaving your mom after you just found her. Coming back to Earth, I mean, that takes courage.
Kara: Hm. I just realized that everything that makes me me is here. This is my home. With you. On this couch, with this insanely huge pizza that we just downed.
Alex: There's no pizza on Argo, huh?
Kara: Nope.
Alex: That's a shame. [Kara laughs] You have no idea how happy I am that you came back.... Are we gonna be okay?
Kara: We're gonna be okay.

Season 4

Opening voiceover
My name is Kara Zor-El. I'm from Krypton. I'm a refugee on this planet. I was sent to Earth to protect my cousin. But my pod got knocked off-course, and by the time I got here, my cousin had already grown up and become... Superman. I hid who I really was until one day when an accident forced me to reveal myself to the world. To most people, I'm a reporter at CatCo Worldwide Media. But in secret, I work with my adoptive sister at the D.E.O. to protect this planet I call my home from anyone that means to cause it harm. I am Supergirl.

American Alien [4.1]

Alex: We seem to be having a communication problem.
Brainy: Oh no, I assure you I understand every word that comes out of your mouth.
Alex: Yes, but you are not comprehending it. Otherwise you wouldn't've spent the last three months acting like a grain of sand in my boot.
Brainy: Oh, I guess that does sound annoying.
Alex: Yes. Every time I tell you to do something, you either do too little or too much.
Brainy: Yes, but I felt...
Alex: This isn't the Legion. Okay, you don't get to just go rogue whenever you feel like it. So from now on, you don't leave this building, you don't breathe, unless I tell you to. Is that understood?
Brainy: Affirmative.
Alex: Good. [leaves]
Brainy: May I breathe now?

Nia Nal: You wanted to see me?
Kara: Yeah, I was just checking in. I know James asked the new reporters to pitch him a list of story ideas. Did you pick an article?
Nia: Yes. Uh, the feature on National City's new fashion district.
Kara: Really?
Nia: You don't think it's a good idea?
Kara: It's fine. It's just I read on your résumé that you have a degree in international relations from Georgetown. Are you sure you don't want to do something with a little more heft?
Nia: There's nothing slight about fashion, Kara. It's one of the most visceral forms of art. What we choose to wear tells a story about who we are. Whether you wear black and leather or pastels and silk, you're creating an inner version of yourself whether you realize it or not.
Kara: Never really thought about clothes that way.
Nia: Well, what makes this story so exciting is that the fashion district's setting up shop in the middle of East City. New legislation is allowing designers to live and work in industrial spaces that have been abandoned for decades. An area that's been a hotbed for crime is going to be infused with color and life. I just think of all the kids growing up in that neighborhood, all the new job opportunities that'll be created. The fashion district article I wanna write about isn't about clothes. It's about community and growth. And hope.
Kara: You need to pitch the article exactly like that to James. He's gonna love it.

J'onn: I've been trying to tell you, the climate towards aliens is changing.
Supergirl: Yeah. Yes, I agree it is, but for the better. And yes, there will always be extremists like whoever attacked the bar, but overall, I think this country has made incredible progress. The president is about to celebrate the second anniversary of the Alien Amnesty Act, and for the first time on Earth, aliens are embraced as citizens with equal rights...
J'onn: Which is part of the backlash. The assimilation with aliens has sparked fear among many humans. And aliens are feeling the brunt of that anger.
Supergirl: I'm an alien, and I've been all over the world recently, and I've never felt more love.
J'onn: Part of the reason why you're embraced as a hero is because you present as human. Most aliens do not share that privilege. I'm afraid your experiences are not the best barometer here.
Supergirl: I'm embraced as a hero because I'm good at my job. And I really don't appreciate you questioning my judgment.
J'onn: I'm just trying to offer you a different perspective.
Supergirl: J'onn, you left the D.E.O. So maybe now it's time you leave protecting the city to me.

Kara: You were right, about the crimes. They were motivated by hate. And there's a web of people...
J'onn: Now that you know what's happening, you can fight it, Kara.
Kara: But I need your help. They're going to attack the alien summit. Help me keep it safe, and then help me take on the rest of this movement, because it is bigger than anything I have ever fought. The people involved in it are like the people I save every day. A villain, I know how to stop, but these people...
J'onn: I'm sorry, but I cannot fight with you. Not this time.
Kara: But... but you have to. You were the first person to see this. You... who yelled at me to open my eyes, so how can you not join me now?
J'onn: Because it's no longer my path to fight. When my father passed, he gave me a message: live as H'ronmeer taught and promote peace. I cannot do that whilst wielding a sword. I will help those in need, and I will be a voice for change like Dr. Vose. I will support you, Kara, but I cannot join your battle. I'm sorry.

Marsdin: I'm sorry, Supergirl, but I can't, I won't cancel the summit.
Supergirl: The Graves siblings are dangerous operatives. I'm afraid of what they could do to you and your alien guests.
Marsdin: So am I, but there's always someone to be afraid of. Some force, some threat, that is beyond our control. And yet, we carry on. A leader who caves to fear is no leader at all.

Fallout [4.2]

Supergirl: Are you sure resigning is necessary? There must be another way.
Marsdin: My presidency is in violation of Article II of the Constitution. If I stay and fight impeachment, it will only cause more chaos and turmoil.
Supergirl: You've done so much good. People need to remember that. Every step of your presidency promoted compassion, and equal rights for all.
Marsdin: To be honest, there is a part of me that is relieved. Hiding who I am, it's taken its toll.
Supergirl: I can understand that. Mercy Graves exposed you because she wanted to fan the flames of fear and hatred. And I will stop her. I promise you that. And once she's exposed, people will realize they never had to fear you.
Marsdin: Fear can create monsters where none existed before. Remind the world that there is still goodness here. Be that beacon of hope that we still need.
Supergirl: I won't let you down, Madam President.

Kara: I had no idea your brother's history with Mercy went back this far.
Lena: Yeah. Mercy started out as his head of security, but over time she became his closest confidant and frequent dinner guest.
Kara: I knew Lex had a close relationship with her, but I-I had no idea you did.
Lena: Growing up, my mother was very critical of me, as you know. She wasn't very helpful with the life stuff. Then Mercy came into our lives and she kind of took me under her wing. She taught me how to act, how to dress, how to always reach for the biggest gun. She was almost like a big sister. Almost.
Kara: Was it hard for you after she left Lex?
Lena: Yeah. I felt abandoned. But I really can't blame her. Truthfully, I blame Lex entirely.
Kara: What happened between them?
Lena: Mercy grew frustrated because Lex was so hyper-focused on Superman. He lost sight of the bigger picture. She felt intelligence wasn't enough, that humans needed to develop even greater powers and abilities than aliens.
Kara: That sounds unhinged.
Lena: Yeah. But I don't disagree with her main point. [seeing Kara's look of surprise] Well, why can't humans be as powerful as aliens?

Nia: I just witnessed a business owner refuse to serve an alien, and then assault him.
James: Yeah. We're getting a lot of calls like that lately. And it... it's good for us to follow up on these types of stories, so that people know how these businesses are treating aliens.
Nia: Absolutely, but... it's bigger than that. Mr. Olsen, I really think we need a statement from our Editor-in-Chief. Aliens are being subjected to hate crimes like never before.
James: It is horrible, which is why we are reporting on this kind of stuff. We are. But... I have to think strategically. And this is not the best time for me to write an editorial.
Nia: I know you've been under a lot of scrutiny since unmasking as Guardian. You have another chance to fight for justice, now.
James: Okay, please. What's on your mind?
Nia: You may not know this about me, but I am a transgender woman. I know what it's like to be... attacked and denied because of who I am. When I saw that alien being attacked, I couldn't let it pass. I... I had to stand up, hold a mirror to that bully's face. And I made a difference. And that was just one person. You are the Editor-in-Chief of CatCo Worldwide Media. You can hold a mirror up to the entire city. We have to show people that violence against aliens is not okay, and that the only way we are going to survive is if we start truly seeing each other.
James: Thank you, for sharing your truth, and your passion. But there's something else that I want you to understand, too, is that our readers that share our values already know that we support aliens.
Nia: Well, what about the others?
James: We're trying. We're... we're reaching over the aisle. If I editorialize too soon, they're just gonna call us biased. They're gonna prejudge us. Look, I've been doing this a long time, and the only way to reach people is through balanced reporting.
Nia: When innocent people are being attacked, it's not about balance. It's about justice.

Mercy Graves: Do you remember when you were afraid to show Lex your little inventions? That you would hide them from him until they were absolutely perfect. Do you remember what he would do?
Lena: Yeah. He'd say they were cute and I should make them in pink.
Mercy: This is exactly what he was afraid of. That you would outshine him. I know that you wanna resist, but you are just like me. You don't just wanna be the best, you are the best.
Lena: Oh, I know I'm the best. You're the one not living up to your full potential. You've chosen a side. I'd never do that.
Mercy: All you care about is lining your pockets.
Kara: Yeah, also she's not a murderer, so...
Mercy: Maybe that's just because she hasn't tried it yet.

Supergirl: Fellow citizens of America, these are complicated times. Some of you are confused, many of you are scared. You just found out that the President of the United States is not from northern Iowa like you thought. She's from a planet somewhere out in the vast universe. Many of you feel betrayed because you were lied to. President Marsdin took responsibility for that. She resigned from office. But the fear that's spreading in this country like wildfire isn't because the president lied. It's because she comes from someplace different. All of you know that I am also from a different place, another planet. But I've lived here long enough to know that it doesn't matter where we were born, because we are all the same. The character of a person, or alien, is not defined by where we are from, but by what we do. The people that exposed President Marsdin wanted to divide us. They want us to turn on one another, live in fear, grow in hate. But I know we are better than that. I know we can work together with love and respect, treat our neighbors with kindness. I'm an alien, and I love this planet that I am proud to call home. I want what we all want: to be a good American. I will stand by the new administration as this nation begins to heal. And I'll continue to protect my friends and neighbors just as I always have. I hope you will all do the same.

Man of Steel [4.3]

Peter Lockwood: We lost the Luthor Corporation contract last week.
Ben Lockwood: What?
Peter: I had to shutter two blast furnaces. Takin' on statue commissions just to make ends meet.
Lockwood: What if you retrofitted the factory to process Nth metal? You could re-train your employees.
Peter: This town was built on steel. American steel. You rip out that foundation, and everything will crumble around it. You mark my words.
Lockwood: People thought textiles would be the end of modern society, but the Industrial Revolution, it created unprecedented opportunities...
Peter: I'm not one of your students, Ben. And I'll remind you, it was called a revolution for a reason. And I'll also remind you that steel is what paid for that fancy college education of yours that you only wanna use when you wanna condescend to your old man.
Lockwood: Worth every penny. Right, dad?
Peter: Not so much.

Lockwood: Nativist. A term often used in a derogatory fashion to describe those who fear the other. Question for you. What's wrong with those who wish to protect their homes from the outsiders?
Alien Student: Well, America is a country of immigrants.
Lockwood: Yes, but that's always been controversial. You see, in 1775, Benjamin Franklin himself writes of his own fears of immigrants, whom he warned "The immigrant will never adopt our language or customs any more than he can acquire our complexion."
Alien Student: Franklin was talking about German immigrants back when America was still a British colony. I don't see how it applies to anything.
Lockwood: Oh, I can see why this, uh, point of view would be problematic, especially since we are talking about human immigrants; human immigrants who, in the past 200 years, made America great no matter what their complexion. But now, we welcome immigrants not only from outside our borders, but from beyond our atmosphere, so let me just ask you, how does the human worker compete? Anyone? How does the human worker compete against an alien who could lift two tons of steel over its head without even breaking a sweat? How does the human worker compete against an alien that can fly goods from one coast to the other, leaving our trucks to rust away in the sand?
Another Student: [confused] Sorry, professor, what page are we on?
Lockwood: Ben Franklin's fears have come to pass. The modern immigrant cannot assimilate, and it's not a question of desire, it's not a question of culture. It is a question of biology, and from that context... [an alien student, insulted, stands and leaves] From that context, I should be proud if you were to call me a nativist.
Alien Student: This... isn't nativism. It's xenophobia.
Lockwood: Well, I can't say I'm surprised to hear that from someone with your complexion.

Lockwood: Sometimes things happen in life that we can't explain. Like a good man being sent to an early grave. And when, not if, these things happen, it can make us feel like we want to give up. So, I'm very happy to, uh, read to you my father's favorite quote. Well, it's the only quote he knew. Winston Churchill. "Never give in." "Never give in. Never, in nothing, great or small, large or petty, except in considerations of honor and good sense. Never yield to force, or the apparently overwhelming might of the enemy that confronts you. Never. Never, ever, give in."

Mercy: People love you, Ben. You have a rare gift of communication, like Franklin Roosevelt or Mussolini. The people I work with, they don't have such gifts. But I think if we could all work together, we could make this country a much better place.
Lockwood: How?
Mercy: We're gonna expose the president as a liar, a fraud, and an alien.
Lockwood: Read a little 4chan, do ya?
Mercy: I can understand why you wouldn't believe me. But can you imagine if we proved it was true? How that would change the world?
Lockwood: Well, that's a nice dream, but, um, I don't even know who you are.
Mercy: Mercy Graves. And that's my brother, Otis.
Otis Graves: [rolling down the limo's driver partition] What's up?
Mercy: [offering Ben a folder] And most importantly, this is Fiona. Part-time bartender, full-time alien rights activist. Don't be fooled by the lipstick. Beneath the disguise, she's a monster. One who is organizing other monsters to defend themselves against us. But that's okay. Because some of these creatures have skills we can use. So what do you say? Besties?

Lena: Where is she?
Alex: She's this way. Hey, listen, I know that you and Supergirl, you don't always see eye to eye on everything, but it means a tremendous amount to us, to... to me, that you're always here when we need you the most.
Lena: People underestimate me, but I care. I really do.

Ahimsa [4.4]

Agent Taylor: [freeing two aliens from custody] Okay. Make it look convincing.
Mercy: It's gonna look real convincing. [shoots Taylor]
Agent Raymond Jensen: I thought we didn't kill humans.
Otis: He wasn't human. He was loose ends.

J'onn: Man, you picked the wrong house.
Manchester Black: Don't think so. Man your age lives alone. No personal history to be found. A bit dodgy, that. Red flags. So, tell me, J'onn J'onzz, how do you know Fiona?
J'onn: You're her fiancé.
Manchester: That I am. Luckiest man in the world. Only Fiona dropped off the radar. Not like her. And you seem to have spent some time following her about.
J'onn: Fiona is just a friend.
Manchester: Well, friend, I'll ask you once more. Where is she?
J'onn: [his eyes glowing red as Black grabs him] Today is not the day to push me.
Manchester: Not from around here, are we? Relax, man. Weren't going to hurt you.

Lockwood: I seem to recall you telling me that Supergirl was dead.
Otis: We never said it was official.
Mercy: We'll make her dead. The plan still stands.
Lockwood: Well, your plan is small.
Mercy: Excuse me?
Lockwood: You want to show people that aliens are monsters. That's good, but you don't do that by attacking their protectors, the police, the DEO. Yeah, that will make them afraid. That'll make them feel fear, up here, in their mind. What you need to do is make them feel it in their bones.
Mercy: And how do you plan on doing that, exactly?
Lockwood: You show them that they need to be afraid for their children.

J'onn: That word, ahimsa, it's Hindu?
Manchester: It means non-violence. Just something Fi used to say.
J'onn: Tell me about her.
Manchester: When I met Fi, I was... well, I guess you'd call it "ganged up".
J'onn: Mm.
Manchester: It was football hooligans. Sorry, soccer hooligans. Any excuse to break a window. We worked for me dad. He taught me how to win a fight. It's easy, once you know the trick. [points to his temple, indicating his brain] There's a switch in here. Keeps you from hurting another person. You can turn it on... [snaps his fingers] ...and off.
J'onn: So, why did you stop?
Manchester: I met Fi. She kept the books for the gang. Didn't hurt no one. No one but me, because one look from her, and I was dead, man, gone, hers. And she showed me... showed me other ways. Non-violent ways. Ahimsa. Then the boys found out she was an alien. Mm. Wasn't safe there anymore. So I told her... I told her to go to the States so she'd be safe.

Nia: I just wanted to mention how thankful I am. 'Cause, uh, I've been reading about Ms. Grant, and CatCo, and you. You know what we do up here is important, right? I... I've also been reading about matters of the law. Did you know someone could be prosecuted for continued instances of the same crime?
James: Yeah. I have a lawyer.
Nia: Of course. I'm not even saying you're thinking of taking up the shield again. But, if you were, especially with Supergirl down, don't.
James: Is this the same Nia Nal I'm talking to, the cub reporter who convincingly and rightfully convinced her boss to act? And to speak out when the innocent are being attacked?
Nia: I know. I don't sound like myself. But that's because this is different. If you go out there again, I have a feeling something bad will happen.
James: Heroes go out there, even when they know something bad's gonna happen. That's what makes them heroes.

Parasite Lost [4.5]

Alex: Well, CatCo's newest addition. It's very nice to finally meet you.
J'onn: We've heard a lot about you.
Nia: All good things, I hope.
Lena: Well, James said your passion for making the world a better place is matched only by the elegance of your prose, so...
Nia: I wish I could say I paid him, but I could not have made that up.

Colonel Lauren Haley: I've noticed you reorganized the strike team command and control system.
Alex: I did.
Haley: Are you aware that system has been in place since the DEO's inception?
Alex: Yes. But with all due respect, the system was outmoded. It used to take us 90 seconds to get out the door after first alert. And now by re-tasking two analysts...
Haley: You cut out the middle men and reduced deployment time to 60 seconds, which could be the difference between life and death.
Alex: Exactly. So...
Haley: I'm commending you, Director Danvers.

Kara: You've declined interviews for decades, but you've graciously agreed to speak with me today. Why now?
Amadei Derros: I see what is happening to our country. Divisiveness and discrimination. If we want to fight prejudice, people need to know about who we are as aliens and what we do. To lead as an example for others, I must be seen. It's not comfortable to me. But comfort is not my priority right now.
Kara: Well, I'm sure your example will inspire many. You've saved countless lives with your gift. Is it true your healing abilities don't work on humans?
Amadei: As of yet, my frequency cannot reach humans. But it is my greatest wish to heal the human heart.

Lockwood: You know, I was just talking about you on my show recently.
James: So I heard. And just to be clear, you and I do not represent the same things.
Lockwood: Hmm. Far be it for James Olsen to listen to an opinion that is not his own.
James: I listen to opinions that are not my own. But what I heard in your show was full of discrimination and hate, and that's when I stopped listening.
Lockwood: I see. So this is the part where you and others like you start making crass generalizations based on ignorance and stereotype.
James: And you forgot the part where people like me walk away.

Haley: You did good work today. But the next time I give you orders, I expect for you to follow them.
Alex: Yes, ma'am.
Haley: Still, I have to say, it's much better to have you in charge than that imposter, J'onn J'onzz.
Alex: Excuse me?
Haley: When we at the White House learned about your former director's true identity, I recommended his removal. He was trying to erode the DEO's mission. Employing aliens instead of catching them, all the while pretending to be someone he's not. I am glad order's been restored, and we're heading towards more civil, honest times.
Alex: J'onn J'onzz is the one who recruited me, promoted me, and taught me everything that I know. He's my family. And he is the best director this organization has ever seen.
Haley: J'onzz set a bad precedent. But we will set things right. From now on, we are strictly by-the-book, which means are going to act according to rank, and let's be clear about yours. Now, you might run this place, but I am your superior officer. You report to me. Understood?
Alex: Understood. [turns to leave]
Haley: Director Danvers, when you exit, you salute your ranking officer.
Alex: [saluting] Yes, ma'am.
Haley: [returning the salute] We'll work on that. I still believe there's hope for you yet.

Call to Action [4.6]

James: So when do I get to meet Agent Liberty?
Tom: You're talking to him.
James: You're Agent Liberty?
Tom: We're all agents of liberty.
James: Nah, I mean the big guy, the guy who signed the leaflet. I was hoping to get to interview him.
Tom: Well, that's above my pay grade. I was just asked to show you what we do, answer some questions.
James: And this is what you do?
Tom: Patrol the streets, keep them safe for humans, just like you do with Guardian. I mean, this week is special. We don't want any roaches crashing people's Thanksgiving dinners.
James: Roaches? That's pretty heavy language, and I would really appreciate it if you didn't call aliens roaches in my presence.
Tom: That's what they are.
James: Or you just classify them that way so you don't have to deal with the fact that they're living and breathing beings, just like you and I.

Kara: Most aliens want to live peacefully, just like humans do.
Lockwood: Okay, and where's the proof in that? Because there have been numerous alien attacks, human lives have been lost.
Kara: But there are also aliens making extraordinary contributions. Everyone that I interviewed for my "Aliens in National City" series was exceptional.
Lockwood: Okay, but for a second let's just talk about human exceptionalism. For example, your own editor-in-chief, James Olsen, he was supposed to be here tonight, was he not?
Kara: Yes, yes.
Lockwood: Okay, so Guardian. If the Children of Liberty are such a problem, why hasn't Guardian renounced them? In fact, rumor is he's meeting with them right now, which seems to indicate that James Olsen understands that these people have something of value to say.
Kara: There is a very clear difference between having something to say and the hate speech in these leaflets. This manifesto will only incite violence and fear, and as Americans we are better than that. On Thanksgiving, tomorrow is Thanksgiving, it is a day for family, for community. It is about welcoming different cultures and celebrating a gratitude for life together. That is what liberty is about.

James: I happened to meet with a regular guy, named Tom, who happens to be afraid of aliens and afraid of their capabilities and he feels inferior.
Kara: People can be powerful too. You and Alex are examples of that, James.
Lena: Yeah, but not as powerful as aliens. I mean, no matter how many weights you lift, you'll never be as strong as Supergirl.
Alex: No, but with technology, we can hold our own.
Lena: But what if we could do more? What if we could make people super?
Eliza: It's not possible. The biological processes that cause alien powers are incompatible with human DNA.
Lena: Okay, but just say we could, right? If James is right and people feeling inferior is what makes them join these hate groups, then we could just level the playing field.
J'onn: The last thing we need is a bunch of evil people running around with superpowers.
Lena: Okay, but evil people wouldn't get powers.
James: So, only certain people qualify?
Alex: And who would decide who gets them? They'd be playing God.

Lena: And if they don't listen?
James: Then I will find a way to make them listen.
Lena: That's not a plan.
James: I don't have time to talk about this right now.
Lena: They don't have time to talk either. They're out there looking for a fight!
James: I appreciate the fact that you're trying to help me, I do. But I don't need it. I'm gonna be fine.
Lena: Right, because you can handle it?
James: Yes, I can handle myself! I don't need you freaking out about every little problem that I have in my life! Take the DA for example. You got all worked up about that, and it turned out to be fine! Okay? I'm going.
Lena: It was fine because I made it fine!
James: What are you talking about.
Lena: I talked to the DA, James. I traded information about Bruno Manheim and she dropped the indictment.
James: You did what?
Lena: You heard me.
James: You lied to me.
Lena: I would do it again in a heartbeat. I love you, and there's no line in the universe I would not cross to keep you safe.
James: If that's what you think love is, I'm not sure if I want any part of that.

Kara: Alex, there's a dragon on Main Street.
Alex: Well, that's what I get for making a Harry Potter reference.

Rather the Fallen Angel [4.7]

James: I came here on my own accord. To talk to you, to listen. I'm prepared to hear your side of the story. I mean, obviously you have an agenda, but why? There has to be something, a core to your anger, something that's happened to you.
Agent Liberty: Something did happen to me, Mr. Olsen. I saw men struggling to remain relevant, to provide for their families. I saw human beings being treated less than they deserve, less than exceptional.
James: Surely there has to be a part of you that can find a commonality between aliens and humans. We just want good, safe, lives for our loved ones.
Agent Liberty: No, we're not here to talk about my empathy, or lack thereof, for aliens.
James: Okay, you tell me, what am I writing?
Agent Liberty: You won't be writing anything. I'm giving you an opportunity to sit in front of the camera for once, to be the story. To galvanize, not to inspire. Because Guardian stands for everything my followers strive for, human exceptionalism.
James: You want me to inspire your followers? And how exactly do you want me to do that?
Agent Liberty: I want you to destroy something, a monument, something that stands against everything we believe in.
James: I don't send things down, that's not my style.
Agent Liberty: I get it. You're not a willing participant yet. But you will be. I believe in you, Mr. Olsen.

J'onn: I saw Manchester at the bar while I was grabbing dinner. He wanted me to tell you how sorry he was.
Kara: J'onn, you told me Manchester is on the path of peace, like you.
J'onn: We share a similar struggle, yeah. So I understand how much he wants to feel like he's doing something, and how hard it is for him to resist his more violent urges.
Kara: You don't think he's capable of killing five Children of Liberty, do you?
J'onn: I mean he is angry, but under that anger is just a lot of pain. Fiona's death just rocked him. Manchester has a good heart, and I'm not ready to give up on him just yet. I mean, he's been on our side every step of the fight, he's resourceful and stubborn, and if he wants something he'll go after it. He could be useful.

Tom: If you stay, if you blow up that monument, then everyone's gonna think you're with them. That you're a Child of Liberty. You're gonna give them the face that they've been dying for, the legitimacy–
James: So what? That's what happens if I stay. But if I go, and I preserve my reputation, you die. And in the meantime I'm lost and you're dead, and I am no better than him. And I'm stronger than that. I've spent my entire life building myself up into the man that I am today and I have not given society one reason to doubt me. But what is reputation? I mean what is it? It's nothing. It's not who you are. So if the latest friends group wants to tear that monument down, we will build it right back up. Agent Liberty can do whatever he wants with my reputation. I know who I am.

Manchester: If this is their home base, and they're planning something, Agent Liberty will be there.
Supergirl: Exactly. That's why we need backup.
Manchester: No, that's why we need to be smart. A guy like that can smell the D.E.O. a mile away. If we go in blazing, he'll hit the trigger or worse. We need to sneak in on the hush, no big guns. You know, your way.

J'onn: You betrayed Supergirl tonight. You betrayed me and your promise to Fiona. No vengeance is worth your soul!
Manchester: What soul, old man?
J'onn: I saw the love you had for Fiona, how you fought for her. I also know what you're gonna do, and I can't let you kill a man, even if that man is Agent Liberty. Once you cross that line, Manchester, there is no going back.
Manchester: You have no idea what lines I've already crossed. [points at J'onn's chest] See that there? That's your heart, beating. Mine is dead. And every time I close my eyes, I wait to hear Fi's voice. There's nothing, just silence. I'm empty, man.
J'onn: That is not true!
Manchester: You want to know the truth? [places J'onn's hand on his head and attaches an item to J'onn's chest] Look.
J'onn: [Sees flashbacks of the people Manchester tortured and killed recently] Why won't it stop?
Manchester: That's an empathy amplifier. It was created to use against empaths. Don't move around, keep everything in. If I can't escape this pain, neither can you. You shouldn't have believed in me.

Bunker Hill [4.8]

Nia: Can I ask you, how do you know so much about me?
Brainy: Well, I'm a twelfth level intell–
Kara: –He's really smart.
Nia: Oh.
Brainy: All you need to know is that what you see isn't necessarily what will be. Hence, the need for exploration and interpretation. But that is why I'm here. So, you have nothing to worry about Nura.
Nia: Did you just call me Nura?
Brainy: No. I didn't. Did you [points at Kara] call her Nura? [Kara shakes here head] She didn't.

Manchester: What's that?
Lydia Lockwood: Oh, Ben's great-great-great-grandfather made those.
Lockwood: Yeah, he was a blacksmith. That bayonet, well it's one of the first things the Lockwoods ever forged. It's from the American Revolution.
Manchester: Is it really? Can I? [takes out the bayonet]
Lockwood: You know, it's from Bunker Hill, remember that one? It's the one where the Brits thought they had won, but the battle ended up so bloody that it cost them the war and it wasn't worth it.
Manchester: Bloody is right. I mean, can you imagine sticking this into a bloke and then twisting it in his guts?
Lydia: That's graphic.
Manchester: Graphic. It is. Lockwood, it's a fine piece. Do you ever wish your husband was a steel man, Lydia?
Lockwood: Stop.
Manchester: Of course that's not really the family business anymore, is it? Now you lot just dress-up in your wicked, metal masks. Isn't that right, Agent Liberty?

Brainy: It's going to be alright.
Nia: Alright? We've been kidnapped!
Kara: Reporting 101: when you get kidnapped, you're on the right track.
Nia: That doesn't make any sense.
Kara: Tell that to Lois Lane.
Nia: Who?
Brainy: It's simple. We bide our time, and then spring into action using our super... kung fu, in which we have many belts in an aggressive rainbow of colors.

Manchester: Why are you here? Both times you let me go on my merry, and both times I went on to do, well let's call it unspeakable things. So my theory is, part of you wanted me to get away. Part of you wanted me to do what you couldn't.
J'onn: You're wrong.
Manchester: Ah, 'cause you want to be a bloody saint. 'Cause you ain't gonna study war no more, yeah.
J'onn: You think that's a weakness?
Manchester: I think it's a character defect.
J'onn: A couple of weeks ago, you had that same defect. But maybe that's my curse, believing in people that don't deserve it.
Manchester: You think my soul's still up for grabs, old man?
J'onn: Yes, I do. [turns to go and then turns back] And I think you do too.

President Baker: Hello Supergirl.
Supergirl: President Baker.
Baker: [takes out a newspaper and reads the headline] "Human Rights Activist Imprisoned" [shows the newspaper] Their words, not mine.
Supergirl: Human rights?
Baker: Yeah, a lot of people, a lot of donors are asking: how can you tolerate this in a government that's supposed to be for the people?
Supergirl: That meant to imply that aliens aren't?
Baker: Aren't what?
Supergirl: People, sir.
Baker: Of course not. But you are a government employee, like me. And as such, we need to make sure that we're serving all the people of this country, not just the ones we agree with.
Haley: For reasons of national security, from now on the D.E.O will require full transparency from its assets.
Baker: We need to know your secret identity, Supergirl.
Alex: No, we keep her off the books for a reason. She can't tell you that, sir.
Baker: And why not? Lockwood just shined a huge spotlight on the fact that you are withholding who you really are. Now keeping that secret inflames things, gives the public more reasons to distrust you and my government.
Supergirl: If I did that sir, everyone I know, everyone I love, would be at risk.
Baker: My family is with the Secret Service as we speak. You think they're not in danger? No one should be above the rest of us. We need to put country first.
Supergirl: I'm sorry, sir. I can't give you what you want.
Baker: Then I thank you for your service, but you're dismissed, effective immediately. I hope you'll comply. The United States does not want a war with Supergirl.
Supergirl: And I trust you won't start one.

This episode is Part Three of a three-part crossover event called Elseworlds. For quotations, see the related page.

Suspicious Minds [4.10]

Supergirl: Just because I don't work at the D.E.O. anymore doesn't mean I'm going to stop being a hero. No matter what you say.

Alex: So you used your brain compartmentalizing thing with Kara?
Brainy: What does Kara have to do with anything?
Alex: Is this permanent or are you going to remember that she's Supergirl soon?
Brainy: Kara? Your sister with the glasses? [starts chuckling] Good one, director. They don't even look anything - Oh! Yes, my compartmentalization was on a timer.

Haley: How do you think we keep this country safe? Every soldier in every war has had to things they considered awful. Now this is reality. Sometimes reality is messy. And it's ugly and uncomfortable. And you end up doing things you thought you'd never do.

Haley: You had me fooled, Danvers. I thought you were a soldier. But then I find this out. All the lies you must have told. You have undermined everything that we stand for, all to protect your own sister. Supergirl.

Kara: But who am I without you? The whole reason I became Supergirl... it was to save you.
Alex: And I'm still going to be the reason. I'm still going to be me. And you're still going to be Kara, my sister. I just won't know that you're Supergirl.

Blood Memory [4.11]

Kara: Oh, easy. My favorite movie.
Alex: Center Stage.
Kara: [insulted] Excuse me?
Alex: What? You spent an entire summer learning the red shoe dance. You broke three lamps. No. Okay, um... Terminator 2. Duh.
Kara: No, that's your favorite. Come on, Alex! Think!
Alex: [racking her brain] I'm totally blanking.

Alex: Where did you grow up, Nia?
Nia: A small town up north called Parthas.
Lena: Doesn't that mean "paradise" in Irish? It's a pretty high bar.
Nia: Paradise is an understatement. The town's not just beautiful, but aliens and humans have lived together in harmony for decades.

J'onn: Hey, Brainy.
Brainy: Greetings, J'onn.
J'onn: I came to see how Alex was feeling. Have you seen her?
Brainy: I have not. But I have located our dealers' van.
Alex: [approaching] Brainy, that's great.
Brainy: I have also located Director Danvers. A day of many victories.

J'onn: Impressive. It took you less than two minutes to get that information.
Alex: How did you learn to speak dude-bro?
Brainy: The same way they did. The movies.

Nia: Maeve was always my biggest supporter. I can't believe she'd say something like that.
Kara: Nia, I'm so sorry.
Nia: I knew she was gonna be crushed about the powers, but... Kara, she was so angry.
Kara: I know it's not the same thing, but if it makes you feel any better, I've been through a lot with my sister.
Nia: I appreciate your support, but this isn't something that you can understand. I have alien powers, my sister doesn't. And now she hates me. [Kara pulls over] Why are you pulling over? [they climb out of the car] Kara, what are you doing?
Kara: I do understand. Probably better than anyone. [removing her glasses, she takes off into the sky, then lands again] I am Supergirl. Very few people know my true identity because it's not safe for them to. But I'm telling you because I think it can help you. And I don't think it will harm you. You, too, are a hero. I was the sister with powers. And I watched Alex pay the price for it in so many ways. Most of the time, she handled it with grace, but I'll tell you, there were times that it got ugly. When we were younger... and even now. But I have faith that the love between two sisters will prevail in the end. I have to believe that. I just need you to know now that you are not alone. You have a family. You have me.
