John Garland Pollard (August 4, 1871 – April 28, 1937) was the governor of Virginia from 1930 to 1934

Misattributed

  • Worry: Interest we pay on trouble before it is due.
    • Although this appears in Pollard's Connotary in 1932, the aphorism was already in general circulation decades earlier, e.g., it features in an advertisement in The Grape Belt, 2 October 1906, p. 5. It is also widely misattributed to Dean Inge.
