Heinz Barwich (July 22, 1911 – April 10, 1966) was a German nuclear physicist who worked on the Soviet atomic bomb with V. S. Emel'ianov. From May 1961 to 1964, he was deputy director of the Soviet Bloc Joint Institute for Nuclear Research in Dubna, Russia. From about September 1962, he was a volunteer CIA agent. On 6 September 1964, while attending the Third UN Conference on the Peaceful Uses of Atomic Energy in Geneva, Switzerland, he defected to the US. In December 1964, he testified before the US Senate Subcommittee on Internal Security.
