Biografie
Williamson verhief de mondharmonica tot melodie-instrument in de blues en telt als vader van de moderne bluesharp. Zijn stijl heeft veel bluesmuzikanten beïnvloed, waaronder Billy Boy Arnold, Sonny Terry en Muddy Waters. Tijdens de jaren 1940 was hij zo populair, dat de bluesmuzikant Aleck Rice Miller zich Sonny Boy Williamson II noemde. Zijn wel bekendste songs zijn Shake the Boogie (#4 van de R&B-Charts, 1947) en Good Morning, Little Schoolgirl.
Overlijden
Williamson kwam op juni 1948 op 34-jarige leeftijd om het leven tijdens een roofoverval. In 1990 sponsorde zijn platenlabel een grafsteen ter nagedachtenis.
