Biografie
Rodney Crowell is afkomstig uit een familie met een lange muzikale traditie. Hij begon op 11-jarige leeftijd als drummer in de band van zijn vader. Op de high school formeerde hij zijn eigen band The Arbitrators. In 1972 beëindigde hij zijn collegestudie en verhuisde hij naar Nashville, Met optredens in plaatselijke clubs verdiende hij meer slecht dan recht zijn levensonderhoud. Op een dag hoorde Jerry Reed zijn zelf geschreven song You Can't Keep Me Here in Tennessee, die hem beviel. Reed nam de song op en bood de getalenteerde muzikant een baan aan in zijn muziekuitgeverij.
