Judi Dench

Judith Olivia Dench (York (North Yorkshire), 9 december 1934) is een Brits actrice. Ze studeerde aan de Central School of Speech and Drama in Londen. Op 6 december 2008 ontving Dench een oeuvreprijs bij de European Film Awards.[1]

In 1988 werd zij onderscheiden met een benoeming tot Dame Commandeur in de Orde van het Britse Rijk en werd daarmee Dame Judi Dench.

Onder haar vele optredens zijn de televisieserie As Time Goes By en A Fine Romance.

Biografie

Vroege jaren

Dench werd geboren in Heworth, York, als de dochter van Eleanora Olive (geboren Jones) uit Dublin en Reginald Arthur Dench uit Dorset, een dokter die Eleanora had leren kennen tijdens zijn studie medicijnen aan de Universiteit van Dublin.[2] Ze groeide op als Quaker[3] en woonde in Tyldesley, Greater Manchester.

Toen Dench 13 was ging ze naar The Mount School in York. Op 5 februari 1971 trouwde ze met de Britse acteur Michael Williams, met wie ze op 24 september 1972 een kind kreeg: Finty Williams (geboren als Tara Cressida Williams). Ook zij begon een acteercarrière.

Dench en Michael Williams speelden in vele toneelstukken, ook samen. Zo waren ze beiden te zien in de Britse sitcom van Bob Larby, A Fine Romance (1981-1984). Michael Williams overleed op 11 januari 2001 op 66-jarige leeftijd.
