Hij studeerde van 2012-2016 aan de Arizona State University (ASU), waar ook Paul Casey en Phil Mickelson studeerden. Hij was eind 2015 de beste amateurgolfer van de wereld en kreeg daardoor een invitatie voor het US Open. Hij kreeg ook een sponsor-invitatie voor het Waste Management Phoenix Open , waar hij op de T5-de plaats eindigde[1], het beste amateursresultaat op de PGA Tour sinds Chris Wood in 2008 8ste bij het Brits Open werd.
