David Olney

David Charles (David) Olney (Providence, Rhode Island, 23 maart 1948 - Seaside (Florida), 18 januari 2020), was een Amerikaans singer-songwriter.[1]

Biografie

Olney kwam in 1971 als gitarist bij de band Simpson van Bland Simpson.

Als zanger van de band nam hij met The X-Rays twee albums op voor het label Rounder Records. De band stond in het voorprogramma van onder andere Elvis Costello en speelde op Austin City Limits. In 1986 kwam Olney's solo debuutalbum Eye of the Storm uit. Zijn album 'Deeper Well' uit 1988 was een grote doorbraak.

Olney profileerde zich begin jaren 90 tot een invloedrijke singer-songwriter in de Nashville scene. Olney schreef vaak met John Hadley.

Hij kreeg een hartaanval tijdens een optreden op het 30A Songwriter Festival en overleed op 71-jarige leeftijd.[2]
