Zelyoniy Bazaar

Zelyoniy Bazaar (or Zelyony Green Bazzar) is located in Almaty, Kazakhstan (on the crossroad between Zenkov and Jybek Joly streets).[1][2] Since its inauguration in 1875, the market has been an important trading point in Almaty.[3] The market currently sells spices, prepared foods, produce, textile, furniture, and a wide variety of different objects, including antiques.[4][5]

The area originally served as a “guest yard” for traveling merchants and caravans. In 1887 Almaty suffered a major earthquake, which destroyed most of the area (including the bazaar). In 1927, the bazaar was reconstructed and received the name “Central Farm Market”. However, it eventually became known as the “Zelyony (green) Bazaar”. The bazaar is currently a major tourist attraction in Almaty.[6][7][8]
