Zbyszek Darzynkiewicz

Zbigniew (Zbyszek) Darzynkiewicz b. 1936 in Dzisna,[1] is a Polish-American cell biologist active in cancer research and in developing new methodologies in flow cytometry.[2][3]

Darzynkiewicz is a professor in the Department of Pathology, & Department of Medicine at New York Medical College – a member of the Touro College and University System, and the director of its Brander Cancer Research Institute.[4][5]

From 1985 to 1990, he was member of the Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center and professor at Weill Cornell Medical College.[6] His professional affiliations include member (foreign) of the Polish Academy of Sciences.[7] and of the Polish Academy of Learning.[8] He is a Fellow of the American Institute for Medical and Biological Engineering[9] previously (1986-1987) serving as president of the Cell Cycle Society and (1993–1994) as president of the International Society for Advancement of Cytometry.[10] He is Editor-in-Chief of the Open Medicine [11], a founding member of the Kosciuszko Foundation Collegium of Eminent Scientists of Polish Origin and Ancestry[12] and a trustee of the Kosciuszko Foundation.[13] From 1986 to 1999 he was an advisory board member to The Alfred Jurzykowski Foundation, which annually awarded the Jurzykowski Prize.[14]

Darzynkiewicz is the recipient of an honorary degree from Medical University of Warsaw in Poland,[15][16] the Maria Sklodowska-Curie Award from the Jozef Pilsudski Institute in America [17] and the Casimir Funk Award from the Polish Institute of Arts and Sciences of America.[18]
