Career

Yung Baby Tate is the daughter of soul singer Dionne Farris and musician/producer David Ryan Harris. She had little contact with her father while growing up, but her mother supported her musical ambitions.[1] She started dancing and playing piano at an early age,[2] and began producing her own beats by age 13.[3]

Yung Baby Tate released the EP ROYGBIV in November 2015 and the Christmas-themed EP YBTXMAS in December 2016.[2] She writes and produces all her own songs.[4] She gained widespread notice in the hip-hop community in early 2019 thanks to a short film produced in conjunction with her upcoming album.[5] Her debut full-length album Girls was released in February 2019 to positive reviews.[6][3] XXL named the album as one of the best hip-hop projects of 2019.[7]

Yung Baby Tate has been noted for the positive sexual messages in her lyrics.[1] She lists Nicki Minaj, Migos, Future, Gucci Mane, CeCe Peniston and her mother (Dionne Farris) as influences.[3] In July 2019 Yung Baby Tate released a cover of Minaj's "Megatron".[8][9] In 2020, she announced that she had signed a recording contract with Issa Rae's record label Raedio and has released two singles from the Insecure TV soundtrack.[10] On April 30th, 2020, the single "Damn Daniel" was released in collaboration with British singer and rapper Bree Runway.[11]
