History
The intent to construct the temple was announced by Russell M. Nelson on October 7, 2018. The Yigo Guam temple was announced concurrently with the Mendoza Argentina Temple, the Salvador Brazil Temple, the Yuba California Temple, the Phnom Penh Cambodia Temple, the Praia Cabo Verde Temple, the Puebla Mexico Temple, the Auckland New Zealand Temple, the Lagos Nigeria Temple, the Davao Philippines Temple, the San Juan Puerto Rico Temple and the Washington County Utah Temple. This announcement made the total number of temples operating or announced above 200.
On May 4, 2019, a groundbreaking to signify beginning of construction was held, with Yoon Hwan Choi presiding.
