Music

[4] There are three sections of the Music Department at North High School: Band, Orchestra, and Chorus. Available classes are the following: Music in Our Lives l and ll, Music Theory, AP Music Theory, Concert Band, Symphonic Band, Wind Ensemble, Mixed Chorus, Concert Choir, Choraleers, Concert Orchestra, and Symphony Orchestra. In recent years, the amount of student involvement in this area as increased. This gave an incentive for a possible renovation of the Music Departments throughout the Williamsville Central School District.

[5][6][7] On December 13, 2018, members in the community were given the chance to vote on a renovation project for the music departments in the High and Middle schools of Williamsville Central School District. It is a $36.6 million project of the district as a whole. Despite this large cost, there will be no tax increase. This is because of three reasons. First, the project will begin when the district’s current debt will be paid off and the annual general fund budget will include $1,560,000 in payment for this project’s debt. Second, money from existing reserve accounts will be used. Thirdly, the project qualifies for NYS building aid, which will cover between 52 and 60 percent of the total cost.

The renovation cost for Williamsville North HS is estimated at $6,414,778. The proposed scope of work is estimated to be 9,828 sq. ft. New additions will include a chorus room, orchestra room, practice/lesson rooms, bathrooms, and storage. Renovation to the current music facilities will include two music classrooms (C130 and C129); the instrument storage room, music library, and lesson teaching space; band office/percussion practice room and music library/prop room in new dressing rooms for drama program; relocation of music classroom to OT/PT room; conversion of current darkroom into a storage room. There will also be renovations made to the Auditorium. This will include restoring existing stage front, replace stage floor, new sound system, new carpet, acoustical improvements, handrail replacements, and ADA modifications.
