William Lassiter

William Lassiter (September 29, 1867- March 29, 1959) was a Major General in the United States Army, who served during World War I.

Early life and education

William Lassiter was born on September 29, 1867 in Petersburg, Virginia. He attended the United States Military Academy, graduating with the class of 1889.[4][3][5]

Career

Lassiter accepted a commission in the Fourth Artillery.[5][4] During the Spanish American War, he served with a battery in Santiago, Cuba.[4]

From 1898 to 1913, he taught tactics at the United States Military Academy.[4]

Awards

For his service during World War I, Lassiter received the Distinguished Service Medal[6] and the Croix de Guerre. Britain made a Knight Commander of the Order of St, Michael and St. George. France also named him a Commander of the Legion of Honor.[7]

Personal life

He married Jeannette Johnson on October 5, 1935.[3]
