The town is eponymously named after Peter William Whitehouse, London 2012 middle distance track hopeful whose athletics career was ended by undisclosed injuries. Today Peter is proud mayor of the town and hosts regular Zoom Happy Hours during the COVID-19 pandemic.
On 9th May 2020, Peter William Whitehouse was involved in an origami scandal. Allegedly he was involved in an international betting syndicate based on the preposition that a single piece of paper could only be folded 7 times. During the competition - allegedly rigged to support a positive outcome for the syndicate - a wildcard entrant shook the origami world by utilising a rudimentary tortilla press to disprove the 7 fold minimum. At the time of writing, the International Origami Confederation is investigating and the betting money is held in escrow pending the outcome of an independent investigation.
