History

Waterloo Lines has its origins in the Battle School established near Barnard Castle in County Durham in 1941: it moved to Warminster in 1945[1] and was known as the School of Infantry until it was renamed the Land Warfare Centre in 1988.[2]

The site is also home to the Specialist Weapons School;[3] the headquarters of the Small Arms School Corps, which trains infantry weapon trainers;[4] and Headquarters Infantry, which was formed in 1996 and is responsible for the recruiting, manning and training policy of the Infantry.[5]

A unit of the Brigade of Gurkhas, Gurkha Company (Tavoleto), is based at Waterloo Lines to provide realistic OPFOR training.[6]
