Nanded-Waghala

Nanded-Waghala is a city and a municipal corporation in Nanded district in the Indian state of Maharashtra. It is situated on the south bank of the river Godavari in Maharashtra state of India, just south of Nanded. It is Marathwada's third most important city, next only to Nanded and Aurangabad. Founded in 1997 it includes the Waghala Municipal Council and the villages of Vasarni, Kautha, Asarjan, Fatehjangpur, and Asadwan.

Nanded-Waghala is one of the major cotton growing areas in India and is connected to all parts of North India and South India by train.

Both Nanded and Nanded-Waghala provide outsourced services for industries and commerce in other metropolises of India, due to lower labour costx for skilled and well educated workers.

Swami Ramanand Teerth University offers education and research in various fields including Bio Technology.[1] Similarly SGGS College of Engineering & Technology, Nanded is also known for its research in engineering and technology.[2] MGM's College of Engineering, Nanded is another engineering institute in the city that offers batchelor and master's degrees in several branches of engineering.[3]

The main language spoken is Marathi. People are also very comfortable with English, Hindi, Telugu, and Kannada.

Demographics

As of 2001 India census,[4] Nanded-Waghala had a population of 430,598. Males constitute 52% of the population and females 48%. Nanded-Waghala has an average literacy rate of 70%, higher than the national average of 59.5%: male literacy is 76%, and female literacy is 63%. In Nanded-Waghala, 15% of the population is under 6 years of age.

Places of interest

There are several temples, hotels and places of interest in the area. The Gurudwara is located in Nanded. Nanded ciy is very famous for Panipuri at Bhagya Nagar.

  • The waterfall of Sahastra Kunda is popular with tourists.
