Vir Bala Aggarwal

Dr Vir Bala Aggarwal is a Professor and the Chairperson of department of Journalism and in Mass Communication at Himachal Pradesh University, Shimla, India where she has been since 1986.

She is a recipient of a 2013 Bharat Nirman Award[1] and Vijay Rattan Award.

Aggarwal's published books include Media and Society: Challenges and Opportunities (2002, Concept Publishing, ISBN 8170229960), Media Policy and Nation Building: Select Issues and Themes (with V S Gupta, 1996, Concept Publishing, ISBN 8170225906), Role of Media in National Crisis and two text books Handbook of journalism and Mass Communication[2] and Essentials of Practical Journalism (2006, Concept Publishing, ISBN 8180692515).

She has also organized numerous national conferences and workshops on the varied topics related to media.

Aggarwal was instrumental in founding the journalism department in Himachal Pradesh university in 1986. She holds a doctorate in electronic media, and her other areas of specialization are communication theory and research, newspaper publishing, advertising, public relations and press laws.
