Victor Oladokun

Victor Oladokun (born Victor Bamidele Oladokun) is a British-Nigerian journalist, broadcaster and communications consultant. He was the Director of Communication at the African Development Bank AFDB [1][2] and producer and host of the popular internationally acclaimed magazine program Turning point on the Christian Broadcasting Network CBN.[3]

Early life and education

Oladokun was born in 1958 in England to an English mother and a Nigerian father who hailed from Ondo town in Ondo state, Nigeria. He attended St. Joseph's college in Ondo and the University of Ife now Obafemi Awolowo University, Ile Ife where he studied History and Political Science from 1977 to 1981.[4] At Ife he developed a fascination with the media and envisioned a television of better presentation, programs, format, and content. Oladokun holds a Master of Arts in Communication from Regent University, Virginia Beach, Virginia, USA and also a Doctorate of Strategic Leadership (DSL) degree from the same university.[5]

Career

Early in his career, Victor Oladokun worked at Cadbury Nigeria Plc in various management positions from 1983 to 1986 as Publications Manager, Media Relations Manager, and Acting Corporate Affairs Manager. From 1986 to 1987, he worked as the Group Public Relations Manager/Spokesperson for the A.G. Leventis group of companies, Lagos, Nigeria.

Between 1990 and 2009, he worked as a news journalist, International TV host, Producer, Senior Producer, and later as Managing Producer at CBN International, Virginia Beach, USA. At CBN, he developed and produced a portfolio of TV programs for a diverse international audience including the popular international television magazine program, Turning Point for many years. Turning Point program became very popular in state television stations across Nigeria in the ’90s. After nineteen years at the CBN, Oladokun founded 3D Global Consult, a media consultancy and strategic leadership development company. He also serves as an adjunct professor of leadership at Bethel College, Hampton, Virginia, USA and a pastor of one of the largest Assemblies of God Churches in North America. In 1999, Oladokun interviewed the then President of Nigeria Olusegun Obasanjo, a tell it all interview where Obasanjo spoke about corruption, debt reduction, time spent in prison, forgiveness and his faith in God.[6]

Oladokun is a renowned speaker and host. He has spoken at various events and platforms, including The Platform Nigeria [7] and the African Economic Conference.[8] Oladokun was the moderator of the Lagos state governorship debate 2019.[9]

Work with the African Development Bank

Oladokun was appointed Director of Communications and external relations at the African Development Bank[10][11] by the president Akinwumi Adesina in 2017. He retired from the Bank on March 31, 2020 [12].
