Victor Julien-Laferrière

Victor Julien-Laferrière (born 1990 in Paris) is a French cellist who won the first prize of the Queen Elisabeth Competition in 2017.[1]

Biography

Victor Julien-Laferrière started learning to play the cello with René Benedetti then studied between 2004 and 2008 at the conservatoire de Paris with Roland Pidoux, before taking for professor Heinrich Schiff of the University of Vienna in 2009.

First prize of the Prague Spring International Music Festival in 2012, he performed with the Orchestre philharmonique de Radio France, the Hermitage orchestra, the Slovak Philharmonic (Slovenská filharmónia) as well as with Czech orchestras, notably in the concertos by Dvořák and Elgar. His first record was published in 2014 by the Mirare label.

From 2005 to 2011, he took part in the International Music Academy (Academy of quartets) given by Seiji Ozawa in Switzerland.

In 2013 he was awarded the Prize of the Safran foundation for music.

He is a member of the "Les Esprits" trio, with violinist Mi-sa Yang and pianist Adam Laloum.
