Venable Ice Shelf

Venable Ice Shelf is an ice shelf, 40 miles (60 km) long and 15 miles (24 km) wide, between Fletcher and Allison Peninsulas, Ellsworth Land. Mapped by United States Geological Survey (USGS) from surveys and U.S. Navy air photos, 1961–66. Named by Advisory Committee on Antarctic Names (US-ACAN) for Cdm. J. D. Venable, U.S. Navy, Ships Operations Officer, U.S. Naval Support Force, Antarctica, 1967 and 1968.
