History
In the beginning, the name of the party was Peoples Coordinate for Democratic Rights (PCDR). PCDR was formed by All Bodo Students' Union (ABSU) and Peoples Joint Action Committee for Bodoland Movement (PJACBM)—in collaboration with the Pro-talk National Democratic Front of Bodoland (NDFB). They contested the elections as an independent party, their founding president was Urkhao Gwra Brahma. United People's Party Liberal was formed on 5 August 2015 at Dotoma, in Kokrajhar district with a view to bringing about revolutionary change for sustainable development and lasting peace in the state of Assam particularly in BTR (formerly known as BTAD). The PCDR, which contested as an independent party, won seven seats out of 40 seats and made a strong opposition party. In the 2016 Assembly Election (Assam) they renamed their party as United Peoples Party Liberal (UPPL). At present Pramod Boro is the president of UPPL. UPPL is a registered party under the Election Commission of India Vide Regd.No. 56/163/2015-16/PPS-1.
