In 1975, the Phenix City Campus was opened as a branch of the main campus. This helped to serve students in the military at the nearby Fort Benning. In 1982, the Montgomery and Dothan campuses were granted independent accreditation, and the Troy State University System was formed. In April 2004, "State" was dropped from the University's name to reflect the institution's new, broader focus. In August 2005, all Troy campuses were reunified under one accreditation.

Campus

Troy University opened its Phenix City Campus in 1975 off U.S. Highway 431. Community and governmental leaders crafted a vision for redeveloping Phenix City’s riverfront into an attractive, stable and economically viable part of the region. In 2015, Troy University officially dedicated the University's new campus with the opening of its 48,000-square foot, four-story building on the banks of the Chattahoochee River in downtown Phenix City. Phase II of the new Phenix City Campus construction will consist of developing another 44,000 square feet onto the current structure. All of the faculty, staff and programs at the campus located off U.S. Highway 431 will be relocated to the new riverfront location on Whitewater Avenue. The Phenix City Campus will go from a 30-acre, five-building operation to a 3-acre, one-building operation.
