Sports

As of 2018, the school has programs in baseball, basketball, cross country, dance, diving, drill team, flag football, football, golf, soccer, softball, squash, swimming, tennis, track and field, ultimate frisbee, volleyball, water polo, and weightlifting.[1] In the mid-2010s, the head football coach was Michael Johnson, former assistant coach of the San Francisco 49ers.[4]. In 2017, former professional Canadian football player, Pete Lavorato took over as head football coach.[5] Relief pitcher for the Houston Astros, Joe Biagini played at the school in the mid 2000s.

Controversy

The school has a history of condoning homophobia, sexism, and other conservative beliefs associated with Christian Fundamentalism. Pseudo-scientific claims such as young-earth creationism and the denial of macroevolution are part of the high school science curriculum. Abstinence only sex education is taught. Their nondiscrimination policy does not protect students of differing religions, sexualities, or gender identities. [6] The Instagram account @welcometotka2 details specific incidences of inappropriate happenings at the school. [7] Incidents include a student receiving a 3 day suspension for defending the LGBT community on a personal social media account [8], and repeated statements during religion class that a woman's body primarily exists for male pleasure.
