The Great Outdoors Conservancy

The Great Outdoors Conservancy is a non-profit organization dedicated to conserving land for recreational enjoyment, located in Galeton, Pennsylvania. It was founded in Florida, United States, in 1998 as a national land trust.

The mission of The Great Outdoors Conservancy is to expand wild, natural, scenic and recreational areas through acquisition of land for the benefit of wildlife and its habitat, and the common sense use and enjoyment by all people, and to strengthening communities within the Big Woods of Pennsylvania, primarily within Potter County and the Kettle Creek Watershed. Special consideration is given to the remote rural communities of Cross Fork and Germania.

Within this geographical area and, in addition to other charitable activities within the scope of a 501(c)(3) organization, public support is sought to accomplish the Conservancy’s work for the following charitable activities:

  • The promotion of land conservation throughout this geographical area and the preservation of open space and wildlife habitat for the benefit of the public;
  • Wildlife, conservation and sustainability educational programs;
  • Historic preservation and community beautification; and
  • Human services and welfare.
