History
The idea for the gardens was as early as 1986, but the initial move to development can be traced to 1995 when the city of Fort Collins initiated a horticulture program. The visitor center ground breaking was in 2004. The gardens opened in that year. A 501(c)(3) non-profit group helps to raise funds for the garden projects. Several gardens have been added since the opening. Future gardens are in the fund raising stage.[2]
