History

The band started after the break up of a band that Portnoy was in. He wanted to start a band that was really heavy so he asked Derrick Schneider to play guitar and his friend Andrew Cooper on bass. Portnoy knew of Justin Bonitz before Bonitz joined through his YouTube channel and wanted him to join. His father Mike Portnoy emailed Bonitz if he wanted to join his son's band and Bonitz said yes. The band had recorded demos for their upcoming EP No One Should Read This and within a week Bonitz had written lyrics for them.[1] Their first live performance was on January 7, 2018 at The Saint Vitus Bar in Brooklyn, New York.[2] After playing a couple of shows and tours they released the music video for "Placenta" on May 15, 2018.[3] They played a lot more shows and toured and supported A Killer's Confession on tour.[4]

During the tour with A Killer's Confession, Tallah released a music video for their song "Cottonmouth" and their EP No One Should Read This.[5] Eric Novroski was the rhythm guitarist during the tour and eventually joined the band.[6] During late 2018-early and mid 2019 they played a couple of shows. On April 25, 2019 they announced that they had signed to Earache Records.[7] On July 18, 2019 they played a show at The Lizard Lounge in Lancaster, Pennsylvania the start of their summer tour, during which Bonitz climbed onto the ceiling of the venue. A security guard told him to get down, but not realizing that he was a security guard Bonitz punched him and was subsequently arrested before being released on bail.[8] After playing some shows from mid 2019-late 2019 they released a music video for the song "Red Light" on January 21, 2020, and announced that they are going in the studio with Josh Schroeder.[9] On February 18, 2020 they announced the name of their new album entitled Matriphagy.[10]. Tallah revealed the tracklist of the new album, the release date of Matriphagy for October 2, 2020 and their new single "The Silo" released on June 5, 2020.[11]
