T. Madiah Gowda

Thimmasandra Madiah Gowda was an Indian politician. He was elected to the Lok Sabha, the Lower House of the Parliament from Bangalore South constituency in1952 as a member of parliament from Indian National Congress during 1st lok sabha election. He was also Member of the Legislative Assembly from Ramanagaram (Vidhan Sabha constituency) between 1962 to 1967.[1]

Early Life And Education

Madiah Gowda was born in Thimmasandra Village, Channapatna Taluk, March 17, 1896 in the erstwhile of Kingdom of Mysore (in the present-day Indian State of Karnataka) His father's name was Anke Gowda.

He pursued his earlier education in Government School, Channapatna later he graduated in arts from the Central College, Bengaluru and earned his masters in L.L.B from ILS law college, Pune. Former chief minister of Karnataka S Nijalingapa and Madiah gowda were batch mates in ILS law college. Madiah gowda married Shrimati Sharadamma in the year 1935.[2]

During his studies Madiah gowda got Inspired by ideologies of Mahatma Gandhi and Annie besant. Which later inspired him to take part in Indian freedom movement along with S Nijalingapa, Nittur srinivasa rao, K Subburaya in his native Karnataka.

Political Career

Madiah gowda was an active participant of Indian national congress in Ramanagara before independence. Post independence he was elected as a member of the first Lok Sabha from the Bangalore south constituency in 1952[3] general election. Later he got elected in third Karnataka assembly election as M.L.A from Ramanagara constituency in 1962.

He also served Mysore Representative Assembly, Legislative Council, Mysore Constituent Assembly, Mysore Legislative Assembly. During his tenure he has built many schools, colleges and hospitals across his constituency he also took part in development of various agricultural, irrigation and industrial projects.

Post Held

Madiah gowda became advocate after completion of his law degree. He was part of Mysore University Council, University senate, Secondary education board, School board of adult education council, Rural development committees, Co-operative societies and he has participated in many seminars on agricultural and experimental Union, Sir M Visvesvaraya Rural Industrialising Scheme activities and Cottage Industries programs. He was part of Ramanagara Town Municipal Council, Bangalore District Board, Bangalore Local Education Board.

He was the president of Mysore state Adult education council from 1947 later he became vice-president of Indian adult education association[4]. He actively took part as District scout commissioner and later became chairman of Bangalore rural district. He was also a member of Bangalore district rural development committee.[5][2]
