History

Stella Matutina College of Education was established in July 1961 as a minority teacher training college, and received UGC recognition in June 1972. It is affiliated to the University of Madras.[2]

Stella Matutina College of Education is a Catholic college, under the management of the Franciscan Sisters of the Presentation of Mary. Stella Matutina is run by a College Governing Body, Board of Studies, Academic Council, an Internal Quality Assurance Cell (IQAC), and committees.[3]

Education philosophy

Stella Matutina College of Education offers teacher-training courses in Bachelor. Ed, Master.Ed, Master.Phil, Ph.D., Aerobics, Spoken English and Computer Applications. The aim of the college is to give students a foundation in the theoretical and practical aspects of teaching.[4]

Before graduating, teacher trainees are required to develop talents in oratory, writing, sports, singing, dancing and other aesthetic and creative pursuits.[4]

Recognition

In April 2000, the college was accorded 5-star accreditation for producing quality teachers, by the National Assessment and Accreditation Council.
