Starshy michman

Starshy michman (Russian: Старший мичман, English: Senior michman) is in the Navy of the Russian Federation, as well as in number of other countries, the designation to first or highest rank in the Michman career group. The rank is equivalent to Starshy praposhik in Army and Air Force. According to NATO-ranksystem the rank might be comparable to OR-9a in Anglophone armed forces.

In the navy of the Russian Federation there are two ranks in the Michman career group, which means Michman (OR-9b) and Strashchy michman (OR-9a). The equivalent in the other military branches are Praposhchik (OR-9b) and Starshy praposhchik (OR-9a).

Soviet Union

In conjunction to the enhancement of the career group Michman and Praporshchik both ranks Starshy michman of the navy and Strashy praporshchik of the other armed forces service branches were introduced in 1981. Both ranks as well as the career group were taken over by the armed forces of the Russian federation.
