St. Gemma Galgani Cathedral, Ketapang

The St. Gemma Galgani Cathedral[1] (Indonesian: Katedral Santa Gemma ) also called Ketapang Cathedral Is the name that receives a religious building affiliated to the Catholic Church that is located just at the mouth of the Pawan River in the city of Ketapang,[2] in the regency of the same name in the province of West Kalimantan on the island of Borneo in the north of the country Asian of Indonesia.

The name of the church honors a religious and mystical Italian Passionist, venerated as Saint by the Catholic Church, Gemma Galgani. In addition to the local priest also work there the brothers of the Congregation of the Blessed Virgin Mary of the Immaculate Conception, who run a shelter. There are also two congregations of nuns who administer a bedroom that include the Augustinian sisters. The current building is located behind the old church which was blessed on June 10, 1962. The building of the old church was converted into a multipurpose structure of the diocese.

The temple follows the Roman or Latin rite and is the mother church of the Diocese of Ketapang (Dioecesis Ketapangensis or Keuskupan Ketapang) that began as apostolic prefecture in 1954 and was elevated to its current status in 1961 by the bull "Quod Christus" of pope John XXIII.

It is under the pastoral responsibility of Bishop Pius Riana Prapdi.[3]
