Smaragdgatan

Smaragdgatan is a street in the Tynnered district of the City of Gothenburg, Sweden. It is located in the southwestern part of the city and represents one of three tram stops in the borough served by lines 7 and 1.

The Smaragd/Briljant area has a high concentration of immigrants in comparison to its neighbouring areas and the recent rise in youth crimes have tarnished the area's reputation and contributed to its nickname "Emerald City"; a nickname taken from the American prison drama series OZ. (The street name 'Smaragdgatan' directly translates to 'Emerald Street'). Cases such as the shooting of an 18-year-old man in July, 2009 Man shot in Västra Frölunda, recent stone throwings and burning of cars Oroligheter i natt - stenattack i Tynnered have given the impression that the area is dangerous and lawless. However, incidents like this do not reflect the lives of the majority of the people living in the area.
