History

Established 1951, this medal was created on the orders of the Central People's Government and was awarded during the period between 1951 and 1959.

The medal was given to Soviet military officers to express gratitude for the technical support provided by the Soviet Union at the founding of the People's Republic of China. This medal was awarded for the Soviet specialists and military advisers who fought alongside or provided assistance to the People's Liberation Army, during the Korean War.

After the war, the medal was awarded to various Soviet delegations visiting the PRC as commemorative medal and as a jubilee award to be presented on the occasion of special events. Citizens from China and the Soviet Union who have contributed to the Sino-Soviet relationship would be awarded the medal by Premier Zhou Enlai or Chairman Mao Zedong, and certificates for the medal were also issued.

With the start of Sino-Soviet Split in 1956, the award became obsolete in 1959.

Appearance

The medal has a round shape and a gold background. The flags of Soviet Union and China are being displayed fluttering and overlapping. The medal is surrounded by symbols of leaves, golden wheat ears and two olive branches.

"Long live" (Chinese: 長命) is written in the medal in six Traditional Chinese characters, with red star below it.

The ribbon is rectangular with a red background and a yellow-colored five-pointed star in the middle, with two yellow lines running through the ribbon.
