He is most notable for his success with FC Indiana where he won two WPSL titles and two US Open Cup titles. Borkowski was named the 2005 WPSL National Coach of the Year and received the 2008 Field Turf W-League Coach of the Year award.
In 2009 he helped Zvezda-2005 to Russian Superior League title, and in 2010 led Zvezda to round 16 of the UEFA Women's Champions League.
In 2018/19 he led Puerto Rico Sol FC to Liga Puerto Rico title, winning all 21 games, scoring 142 and conceding 3.

Management style

Borkowski believes in his teams keeping possession of the ball and playing a flowing passing game with the ball always moving; defensively, he likes his team to put a lot of pressure on the opposing team. He was inspired by Ajax Amsterdam as a youth and was later influenced by Total Football, a playing style developed by Rinus Michels at Ajax in the 1970s. He tends to employ a 4–4–2 or 4-3-3 formations with compact lines, of zones, of quick, coordinated movements with a good technique. He characteristically focuses on the strengths of his teams, rather than looking for areas to exploit the opposition.
