Sharjah Museums Authority

The Sharjah Museums Authority, (Sharjah Museums Department – SMD previously) established in 2006 by Dr Sheikh Sultan bin Muhammad Al-Qasimi, Member of Supreme Council and Ruler of Sharjah, aims to promote the emirate's legacy of arts, heritage and culture. Sharjah Museums Authority is member of the Global Cultural Districts Network.

The Sharjah Museums Authority (Sharjah Museums Department – SMD previously) was established in 2006 by the Ruler as an independent government authority affiliated to the Ruler's Office. The Sharjah Museums Authority oversees and links the current and future museums of Sharjah. The Sharjah Museums cover the arts, Islamic culture and history, heritage and history of Sharjah and the region, archaeology, science, children's learning and natural history.
