Scythris amplexella

Scythris amplexella is a moth of the family Scythrididae. It was described by Bengt Å. Bengtsson in 2002. It is found in Sudan, the United Arab Emirates, Yemen and Oman.[1]

The wingspan is 11–13 mm. The forewings are rose or ochreous yellow with dark brown scales forming irregular dashes around the fold, one at one fourth, one in the middle and one above the tornus at the cell end, extending towards the costa in two wide-angled branches. There are brown scales scattered on the rest of the wing surface. The hindwings are silken greyish. Adults have been recorded on wing from November to January.

Etymology

The species name refers to the shape of segment 8, embracing the genitalia with its more or less pointed extensions and is derived from Latin amplexus (meaning embracing, embrace).[2]
