Scottish Women's Football League Second Division Cup

The Scottish Women's Football League Second Division Cup is a cup competition in Scottish women's football, a competition only open to teams in all four Second Divisions, the North, West, East and Central Divisions. The Second Division is the lowest division in the women's football league system in Scotland. There are six rounds, including the final.

Background

Second Division clubs, previously played in Scottish Women's Football League First Division Cup, when it was called the Scottish Women's Football League Cup. It was a competition open to all teams in the First and Second Divisions, all Divisions below the Scottish Women's Premier League (similar to the men's Scottish Challenge Cup).

However, in 2012, the SWF decided to launch separate cup competitions for First and Second Division teams.[1] Since 2009, women's football in Scotland has adopted a summer season which now runs from March to November each year, which is why the competition is now played in a single calendar year.[2]

Format

All matches are played over only one leg. With between 40 and 50 teams entering, some teams are drawn to play the first round. The winners meet the other teams in the second round, which is the round of 32.[3]
