Sayed Kayan

Sayed Kayan or Sayed of Kayan is a position of leadership amongst the Hazara Ismaili community of northern Afghanistan's Baghlan province. The Ismaili community in Baghlan Province is led by a family of Sayeds (claimed descendants of the Islamic prophet Mohammed) hailing from the village of Kayan. The family, according to their own source, are actually of ethnic Tajik origin once lived in Badakhshan province. The family is not regarded as chiefs of Ismailis residing in Badakhshan province itself.
