Salwan

Salwan is a village of high historical interest in Karnal District,and one of the biggest village in karnal, Haryana, India. It contains a tirtha identified as having national importance. The major population of the area are Madadh(clan) from Rajput and Brahman caste. The Rajputs are a martial race and caste of the Indian subcontinent. They are a Hindu caste whose members generally consider themselves to belong to the ("warrior") varna (division of society); however, Encyclopædia Britannica notes that their members have come from a variety of lineages.

The village was the subject of much media attention in 2007, when the beating death of a [Rajput] man was followed by a wave of violence directed toward local dalits. About 150 lower-caste families fled the village.
