STANKIN

The Moscow State Technological University (MSTU) (Russian: Московский Государственный Технологический Университет (МГТУ)), previously the Moscow Machine-Instrument Institute (Russian: Московский станкоинструментальный институт, tr. Moskovsky stankoinstrumental'ny institut), the name of which is still preserved in the acronym STANKIN (Russian: СТАНКИН), is one of the leading Russian technical institutes founded in 1930. Today STANKIN trains specialists in many more areas than machinery.

History

The university was founded in 1930 to provide the USSR with high class engineers of machinery. Soon STANKIN became the USSR's leading machinery education centre and university training high-class engineers in wide range of areas.

The university was founded as the Moscow Machine Tool Institute in 1930 to provide the machine tool industry, the most important branch of industry at that time, with highly qualified specialists. Machine tools are the only machines that can create other machines (cars, planes, agricultural and everyday equipment, etc.), including machine tools themselves.

Today Stankin is not only a place for study: It is a scientific industrial complex with the Technological Design Institute of Informatic of the Russian Academy of Sciences (RSA). There is a network of scientific, educational and industrial centers, where students can realize their ideas. There are some strong and authoritative schools in Stankin. It represents the main perspective in engineers and scientists training through post-graduate study (six special Doctors and Bachelors councils function under the university). Among 100 universities of Russia, Stankin is chosen the main one in the field of “machinebuilding technology, equipment and automatization of machinebuilding industry”. It has stable and always developing international relations with universities and firms from Austria, Brazil, Germany, Hungary, Italy, China, USA, South Korea and other countries.

There are more than 600 professors and scientists working at Stankin today. Life at the university does not represent only studying and working; it also entails social activities. Stankin has its own newspaper: Stankinovskiy vestnik. The show-group of the university is very popular because of its talent.

Famous Alumni

Outstanding scientific achievement

There were created new constructions of spindle nodes and bearing systems of machine tools ensuring multi-coordinate precision processing of details from pig-iron, steel and easy alloys. The originality of the developed automated means of calculation of machine tool nodes is made with new methods of the advanced final element and empirical methods of calculation. There were developed the technology and equipment for plotting multi-layers abrasive resistant covers on tools and details ensuring essential increase of their reliability and resource.

There was developed the system of interpreters of the dialogue "person - computer", intended for acceleration and reduction of labour input of creation of appropriate appendices. The source submission of dialogues are the graphs of states, system functions on platforms of Windows 95 and Windows NT. The system was created as the tool for fast development and modernising of MMI appendices for open systems of the numerical control.

There was developed the method of substitutions of problem solving on the graphs. With the help of the given method it is possible to decide both optimisation problems relating the class of discrete programming problems and combinatorial problems on the graphs with edges without weights. The principle of pair substitutions with combination of the possibility of use the vectors of topology has allowed mathematically to formulate new classes of optimisation and combinatorial problems on the graphs, which could not be solved earlier by known widely classical methods.
