Rosianne Cutajar

Rosianne Cutajar (born 1988) is a Maltese politician of the Labour Party. She is a member of the Parliament of Malta representing the Sixth District electoral division.[1]

Education

Cutajar attended the Qormi Primary School, going on to the Maria Assunta Girls school in Hamrun for her secondary education. She attended the Giovanni Curmi Higher Secondary School.[2] She graduated in a B.Ed with Honours from the University of Malta, and began a career in teaching Italian and French and then she holds a Postgraduate Certificate in Teaching. [3]

Politics

Cutajar was elected as the first female mayor of Qormi in the local council elections of 2012. She was re-elected to the Qormi council in 2015, again continuing in her role of mayor.[2]

She was elected to parliament in a "casual election" on 20 June 2017 after the 2017 Maltese general election of 3 June 2017, following the resignation of Silvio Schembri who had been elected for both the Sixth and Seventh Districts.[4]

She was elected directly to Parliament in the 2019 elections, and served under the premiership of Joseph Muscat as the Chairperson of the Parliamentary Committee for Family Affairs. Following Robert Abela's appointment to leader and Prime Minister, Cutajar was given the role of Parliamentary Secretary for Equality and Reform. [5]

As of 2019 she was the youngest member of the current parliament, and the second youngest woman member of parliament ever (the youngest being former president Agatha Barbara, born 1923, elected 1947).[2]
