Rose Christiane Raponda

Rose Christiane Ossouka Raponda is a Gabonese politician who has been the country's Defence minister since February 2019. She previously served as Mayor of Libreville.

Education

Raponda has a degree in economics (public finance) from the Gabonese Institute of Economy and Finance.[1]

Career

Raponda worked as Director General of the Economy and Deputy Director General the Housing Bank of Gabon.[1] She served as Budget Minister from February 2012 until January 2014.[1][2]

Raponda was elected Mayor of the capital city Libreville, representing the ruling Gabonese Democratic Party,[3] on 26 January 2014, serving until 2019.[4] She was first woman to hold the position.[1] She also became President of United Cities and Local Governments Africa.[5]

On 12 February 2019, Raponda was appointed Defence Minister[4][6] by President Ali Bongo Ondimba after the failed coup in January,[7] replacing Etienne Massard Kabinda Makaga, a member of the Bongo family, who had held the position since 2016.[8]

Personal life

Raponda is a member of the Mpongwe people.[3]
