Romulo Yanes

Romulo A. Yanes[1]' is an American photographer who was born in Cuba in 1965, he studied photography at the School of Visual Arts in New York in the early Eighties. He began working as a photographer as a teenager. After completing his college education, he began working for the publishing house Condé Nast for Gourmet magazine. Romulou A. Yanes, has photographed being on the road and in the studio, both home styled and restaurant dishes, chefs, ingredients, food markets, and entertaining features. His cover work and culinary artistry contributed to Gourmet magazine[2] winning the ASME award for photography in 2005 and again in 2008. After Gourmet Magazine concluded publication, he shot for Bon Appétit, Martha Stewart Living and Everyday Food, Health, and became a regular contributor to Williams Sonoma Cooks Catalogue; however, his work is still seen in Epicurious.

He has photographed for 35 publications,[3] most doing some of the food and dining photographs for Hillary Clinton's 2000 book An Invitation to the White House (which featured many photographers overall) and a book on Jacqueline Kennedy Onassis Cooking for Madam Recipes and Reminiscences from the Home of Jacqueline Kennedy Onassis by Marta Sgubin.[4][5]

Biography

Romulo A. Yanes was born and raised in Cuba; however, his family were exiled from the country after Fidel Castro's take over. Romulo studied at the School of Visual Arts in New York City. He assisted photographers Frances McLaughlin-Gill, Irene Stern and Carl Fisher. Later he continued his career at Condé Nast's publication Gourmet.[6] He was the staff photographer at Gourmet for over twenty five years[7] before the publication finally concluded in 2009.[8]

His photography has appeared in international magazines including Gourmet Magazine, Bon Appetit, Martha Stewart Living and Everyday Food, Cooking Light, Health and GQ[9] among others.

His photography for magazines was so well received his work can be purchased as poster and print decor.[10][11]

He also played a small role as a gourmet photographer in the 2001 movie Dinner with Friends[12] which featured Dennis Quaid, Andie MacDowell, Toni Collette and Greg Kinnear.
