The Roman Catholic Archdiocese of Olomouc (Czech: Arcidiecéze olomoucká, Latin: Archidioecesis Olomucensis) is the Metropolitan archdiocese of the Latin Rite of the Roman Catholic Church in Moravia, part of the Czech Republic.

History

Established in 1063 as Diocese of Olomouc / Olomucen(sis) (Latin), on territory split off from the then Diocese of Praha (Prague, capital of Bohemia, now Metropolitan) and Promoted on 1777.12.05 as Metropolitan Archdiocese of Olomouc / Olomucen(sis) (Latin) (lost territory to establish Diocese of Brno). In 1788 Gained territory from the Diocese of Wrocław (Breslau, Silesia), in 1863 exchanged territory with Moravian Diocese of Brno.

  • 1945.03.15: Lost territory to establish Apostolic Administration of Upper Silesia
  • 1978.05.31: Gained territory from the suppressed Apostolic Administration of Český Těšín
  • It enjoyed Papal visits from Pope John Paul II in April 1990 and May 1995.
  • 1996.05.30: Lost territory to establish Diocese of Ostrava-Opava as its suffragan
