After football, Brown became a school teacher, and coached school football.[2] In 2018, he was dismissed from Trinity Grammar for cutting a student's hair. This sparked outrage and unrest in the school's community, leading to protests by large numbers of students. There was a strong belief that his dismissal was a political move by the School Council, who were attempting to take the school in a new direction. He was reinstated in April.[3]
